Several people compla ined of 'cat-like no ises' at ni ght and a bus in essma n on a fishi ng trip saw the puma up a tree. The experts were now fully that the animal was a puma, but where had it come from? As no pumas had bee n reported miss ing from any zoo in the coun try, this one must have bee n in the possessi on of a private collector and somehow man aged to escape. The hunt went on for several weeks, but the puma was not caught. It is disturb ing to think that a dan gerous wild ani mal is still at large in the quiet coun tryside.
