Holiday Economy

Holiday economy is not new to people all aroundthe world. In China, it stands for the nationwide one-week holiday starting from October lstfthe National Day). The government established the week-long holiday back in 1999 tostimulate domestic spending. Tour operators, retailers, and wedding halls have been cashingin ever since.

However, there are shifting perspectives about holiday economy. Many people, includingsome economists, think positively about holiday economy. They believe that tourism-dholiday economy has increased consumption and helped to spur the domestic demands. Whileothers, who worry about the negative effect of holiday economy, argue that holiday economydo more harm than good. For example, during the extended holiday, scenic spots areoverloaded with tourists, and it not only spoils the relaxing mood of the tourists, but alsooverburdens the tourist attractions.

develop economy while trying to tackle the problems existed with practical measures. Only

inthis way can we not only enjoy the pleasure golden week endows us, but also promote

thedevelopment of holiday economy soundly.

【预测题目】就业选大城市还是小城镇?

Big City or Small Town

1.很多的大学生毕业后留在大城市工作;

2.也有人选择到小城镇开始自己的职业生涯;

3.结合自己的实际情况谈谈自己的想法c Want to be a small fish in a big pond or the other way round? Every graduate faces this question when he starts his career. A large number of college graduates prefer to stay in the big cities. To them, big cities mean more experiences, more opportunities to see the big world and more space for career development. At the same time, higher salary is another temptation.

But some other graduates want to start in small towns. Even though there may not be many big companies, they can have a quieter and less competitive life. Another reason is that they can be a big fish in a small pond. They can easily get the management' s attention and may win promotion earlier.

As far as I am concerned, I prefer to start in a metropolis like Shanghai. A good begin is half the battle, and in Shanghai I can find a job in a big company where I can meet people from different places and cultures. I will learn from them what I can not get from textbooks.

【预测题目】道德滑坡

1.现在社会道德滑坡现象严重,比如……

2.我认为应该如何改变这一现状

【参考范文】

Decline in Morals

In modern society, the decline in morals isbecoming more and more severe. For example,there have been a few cases in which a senior woman pretended to have fallen over and thenblackmailed the person who tried to help her. There was also another case where a little girl washit by a car and no passers-by gave her a hand.

To solve this problem, we need first to find out the reasons. For one, the fast pace ofmodern society is driving people apart from each other; thus people are losing the patience tocare for others. For another, with technology developing, it' s much easier for people to knowwhat is happening in the

world today. In order to draw people' s attention, some media wouldlay stress on negative news and overemphasize the negative effects.

To reestablish social morals, we must work together. People should learn to care for theothers, while the media should treat negative news more properly.

【预测题目】人口老龄化

Aging of the Population

1 .我国人口老龄化现象日趋明显

2.人口老龄化带来的问题

3.如何妥善解决人口老龄化问题

【参考范文】

Aging of the Population

Population officials and demographers have muchto worry about China' s increasingly aging population. It is estimated that the proportion ofpeople aged 60 or older in China will rise to 11.8 percent in 2020. By the middle of this century,people aged beyond 60 will take up 27.4 percent of the total population — that means one outof every four people will be senior!

The aging population poses a serious challenge to families and the society. On the onehand, with families becoming smaller and living pace escalating, it is even graver for families tocare for aged members adequately. On the other hand, aging causes a relative decline inworking force. Consequently, the productivity of the whole society will be affected to someextent.

The rapidity of the population?s aging has made it more urgent for the adoption ofcountermeasures. There is no doubt that the key is to build a solid economic foundation.Meanwhile, importance should be attached to overall social progress by changing the backwardsituation in social security, welfare and service. What' s more, family care and community-d services should also be encouraged.

Guide Dogs For most dog owners, the expression “work like a dog”doesn’t make much sense. But some dogs happily perform very demanding jobs for much of their life, putting in a full day’s work just like the rest of us. Guide dogs, one of the most familiar sorts of working dog, provide an invaluable service to humans. Every day, they help their masters get from place to place more safely. What Guide Dogs Do Guide dogs help blind or visually impaired people get around in the world. In most countries, they are allowed to anyplace where the public is allowed, so they can help their handlers be in any place they might want to go to. To do this, a guide dog must know how to: ·Keep on a direct route, ignoring distractions such as smells, other animals and people ·Maintain a steady pace, to the left and just ahead of the handler ·Stop at all curbs until told to proceed ·Turn left and right, move forward and stop on command ·Recognize and avoid obstacles that the handler won’t be able to fit through (narrow passages and low overheads) ·Stop at the bottom and top of stairs until told to proceed ·Bring the handler to elevator buttons ·Lie quietly when the handler is sitting down ·Help the handler to board and move around buses, subways and other forms of public Vehicles ·Obey a number of verbal commands Additionally, a guide dog must know to disobey any command that would put the handler in danger. This ability, called selective disobedience, is perhaps the most amazing thing about guide dogs that they can balance obedience with their own assessment of the situation. This capacity is extremely important at crosswalks, where the handler and dog must work very closely together to navigate the situation safely. Dogs cannot distinguish the color of traffic lights, so the handler must make the decision of when it is safe to proceed across the road. The handler listens to the flow of traffic to figure out when the light has changed and then gives the command “forward”. If there is no danger, the dog proceeds across the road in a straight line. If there are cars approaching, the dog waits until the danger is gone and then follows the forward command. On the Job and After Hours Guide dogs enjoy their work immensely, and they get a lot of satisfaction from a job well done, but there is no
