A

There are cases in which it does not seem that hard to decide whether to go on or give up. When a man got to India for the first time, he saw a lot of fruits. In India they have plenty of fruits to sell, but many of them are expensive because they can’t grow m any due to the water situation.

When he saw a big basket of red, long fruit, he went up and asked, “How much per kilo?” The shopkeeper said, “Two rupees.” Two rupees in India is nothing; it’s like dirt. So he bought a whole kilogram of the fruit and started eating them. But after he ate some of them, his eyes watered, his mouth burned and his face became red.

But he still continued to eat the fruit! Some people who were looking at him shook their heads and said, “You’re crazy, man. Those are peppers! You can’t eat so many! People use them as a condiment(佐料), but only a little bit to put into food for taste.” But the stupid man said, “No, I can’t stop! I paid money for them, and now I’ll eat them.”

Similarly, we sometimes do a lot of things like that. We spend money, time or effort on a relationship, business or job. And even though bitter experience tells us i t won’t work, and we know there’s no more hope that things will change in the future, we still cont inue just because we’ve spent money, time, effort and love on it. If so, we’re just like the man who ate the peppers and suffered so much but couldn’t stop because he didn’t want to

waste the money he’d paid. So even if you’ve lost something, let it go and move on. That’s better than continuing to lose.

36. Why did the man buy a kilogram of peppers?

A. Because the appearance attracted him.

B. Because he had never seen peppers before.

C. Because the peppers were very cheap.

D. Because he thought peppers were delicious.

37. We can learn from the passage that ________.

A. many kinds of fruits are planted in India

B. it rains a lot all around the year in India

C. India is a country which depends on fruits

D. many fruits are imported to India every year

38. The man wouldn’t give up the peppers for the reason that ________.

A. he thought it would be a waste of money

B. he was used to the taste of peppers

C. he was afraid of being laughed at by others

D. he could keep them for other purposes

39. What does the passage mainly talk about?

A. Experience is gained through doing.

B. Success belongs to those who keep on.

C. It’s wise to give up in some cases.

D. Following others’ advice is important.

Bananas are thought to have originated in Malaysia around 4,000 years ago. From there, they spread throughout the Philippines and India in 327 B.C. Bananas were introduced to Africa by Arabian traders and discovered there in 1482 by European explorers who took them to America, where the majority of bananas are now produced.

Like other fruits and vegetables, bananas contain no fat or cholesterol(胆固醇). Bananas are rich in vitamin B6 and they are a good source of fiber, vitamin C and potassium(钾). Lack of B6 in a diet can cause weakness, irritability(易怒)and insomnia(失眠). The potassium found in bananas helps to improve blood pressure and may reduce the risk of high blood pressure and stroke.

Since bananas are picked off the tree while they’re still green, it’s not unusual to see them this color in the store. Bananas are usually stored at room temperature. If you need to hasten the ripening process, you can place bananas in a paper bag or wrap them in newspaper, adding an apple to accelerate the process. Ripe bananas that will not be consumed for a few days can be placed in the refrigerator. While their skin may darken, the flesh will not be affected.

While we are accustomed to thinking of sweet bananas as having yellow skins, they can also feature red, pink, purple and black when ripe. Green bananas are selected for cooking or ripening, yellow ones for eating and brown ones are selected for baking breads and cookies. Base your choice of bananas depending upon how you want to consume them.

My luggage bag was broken when I got it at the airport. And some of the articles were lost, among which was a pair of precious sports shoes.
