I'm Victor Bobra from Belarus. When I was three years old, a nuclear explosion (核爆炸) blew up in Chernobyl, Ukraine. At the time, I was living on the border with Ukraine. When the explosion happened, my dad was looking after the trucks at the station. When he heard about the disaster, he took us to Brest on the truck. After that, my family moved to Minsk.

Many years have passed since the explosion. Different places were affected differently. If you live in an area like Minsk, it's not as polluted as other areas. Kids there were born normally. Maybe they were underweight or something, but this was because of the problems of the economic (经济的) situation. If kids were born around the Brest area, they were born almost perfectly, because it's the cleanest area in Belarus. But if kids were born around the area to the east of Belarus, most of the kids were born deformed (畸形的).

I don't know much about how it has affected my health. But what happened was: Everybody had a medical check-up after the disaster. The doctors found that I had got some protein inside me. So they thought there was something wrong with me, and suggested I should be treated.

My mum set up a charity, Chernobyl Children Lifeline, which raised some money for me. I've stayed here for treatment since then. The reason I can't go to Belarus is because of the

radiation (辐射). If I go back, I might get radiation and get ill. Certainly there isn't any medical care, because the country is very poor. At the moment I can't even see my parents for a holiday. My parents probably miss me. I think the fault that Chernobyl blew up is the government's.

62.What can we learn from the second paragraph?

A.Victor Bobra lived in the cleanest area in Belarus.

B.People in Minsk were rich before the disaster.

C.The east of Belarus was seriously affected by the disaster.

D.Kids born in Minsk were underweight because of the disaster.

B.Victor Bobra lived in Minsk when the disaster happened.

C.Victor Bobra was treated well with the help of the government.

D.Victor Bobra thought the government should take responsibility for the disaster.

65.From the passage, we can know that ________.

A.everybody had a medical examination after the nuclear explosion

B.the doctors did not think it necessary to have the author treated

C.the author's country can afford to provide medical care

D.the author is living with his parents now

D

There was a famous temple on a high hill in Assam. The priest (神父) of this temple was widely respected. When he grew old, he started searching for a younger priest to replace him after his death. However, much to his disappointment, he could not find any suitable person. As the priest lay on his deathbed, he called his assistant and told him, “After my death, make sure that only a ‘human being’ replaces me as the priest of this temple.” As soon as he said these words, he died.

Information soon travelled far and wide. A day was set for the selection of the successor (继任者).That day, many people started coming to the temple. The route to the temple was full of thorns (荆棘) and stones. By the time most people reached the temple, they had had cuts on their feet and hands.

By afternoon, as the selection process was about to end, one young man walked slowly into the temple. The assistant noticed him and said, “Young man, you are very late.” The man replied, “I know I am late, so I will not participate in the competition.” But the assistant was curious to

know about this man. He asked again, “But how did you hurt yourself so badly? Didn't you follow the same route as the others?”“I did,” replied the man, “but I thought I must remove the thorns and sharp stones from the path so that when people come to pray in this temple they won't get hurt.”

Hearing this, the assistant smiled and said, “Congratulations, you have been chosen.” This greatly annoyed the other participants. “How can you choose him as he has not gone through any of the tests?”,they demanded.

The assistant replied, “Our old priest used to say that only a ‘human being’ knows how to watch for other people's interests. All of you climbed the same path. But only this man thought about the others and cleared the path so that no one would get hurt. Ⅴ.参考范文:

Recently we had a heated discussion on the advantages and disadvantages of keeping pets.

Opinions are different among us. Some students agree that keeping pets at home is beneficial. First, although these lovely animals cannot speak, they can express many feelings, which can bring pleasure to us. Besides, keeping a pet will encourage a sense of responsibility. On the other hand, other students hold the opinion that keeping pets should be banned. The noise that pets make troubles people and animal waste pollutes the environment, which makes people uncomfortable. What's more, these animals in public places will frighten children and even bite them.

In my opinion, everyone has the right to keep pets. However, pets can spread diseases and the owners should pay more attention to this.
