Imagine being told not to drink, shower,or brush your teeth with tap water. That's what happened to people of Toledo,Ohio, and parts of Michigan after tap water coming from Lake Erie was found to be unsafe.Hundreds of thousands of people were affected.

As a temporary solution, bottled water was trucked into the area and the Ohio National Guard was purifying(净化) water for people. But by Monday morning, the ban had been removed.“Our water is safe,” said Toledo mayor D.Michael Collins.“Families can return to normal life.”To reassure people,he took a sip from a glass of the city's tap water.

Toledo is Ohio's fourth largest city.News about the water ban came after tests at one water-treatment plant showed high levels of the toxin microcystin(微囊藻毒素).Algae(藻类) caused the toxin.Following the warning,Ohio Governor John Kasich declared a state of emergency.Drinking the contaminated water could cause vomiting, cramps, and rashes(呕吐、腹部绞痛和疹).

Tap water accounts for two-thirds of the drinking water consumed in homes across the US.Officials test the quality of the water to make sure it is healthy for people to drink.During the emergency in Ohio and Michigan, officials began to talk about how to stop pollutants from polluting Lake Erie. The lake supplies drinking water to 11 million people and the toxins that polluted the region's drinking water didn't just suddenly appear.

主旨大意题多是以这样进行提问的“According to the passage…?”或”What can we learn from…?”

Passage 1 There are some very good things about open education. This way of teaching allows the students to grow as people develop their own interests in many subjects. Open education allows students to be responsible for their own education, as they are responsible for what they do in life. Some students do badly in a traditional classroom. The open classroom may allow them to enjoy learning. Some students will be happier in an open education school. They will not have to worry about grades or rules. For students who worry about these things a lot, it is a good idea to be in an open classroom. But many students will not do well in an open classroom. For some students, there are too few rules. These students will do little in school. They will not make good use of open education. Because open education is so different from traditional education, these students may have a problem getting used to making so many choices. For many students it is important to have some rules in the classroom. They worry about the rules even when there are no rules. Even a few rules will help this kind of student. The last point about open education is that some traditional teachers do not like it. Many teachers do not believe in open education. Teachers who want to have an open classroom may have many problems at their schools. You now know what open education is. Some of its good points and bad points have been explained. You may have your own opinion about open education. The writer thinks that open education is a good idea, but only in theory. In actual fact, it may not work very well in a real class or school. The writer believes that most students, but of course not all students, want some structure in their classes. They want to have rules. In some cases, they must be made to study some subjects. Many students are pleased to find subjects they have to study interesting. They would not study those subjects if they did not have to. 1.Open education allows the students to ____. A.grow as the educated B.be responsible for their future C.develop their own interests D.discover subjects outside class 2. Open education may be a good idea for the students who ____. A.enjoy learning B.worry about grades C.do well in a traditional classroom D.are responsible for what they do in life 3. Some students will do little in an open classroom because ____. A.there are too few rules B.they hate activities C.open education is similar to the traditional education D.they worry about the rules 4. Which of the following is NOT mentioned in the passage?____ A.Some traditional teachers do not like it.

(1) Who are the two speakers? (2) What is the possible relati on ship betwee n them? (3) Whe n did they have the conv ersati on? (4) Where did the conv ersati on take place? (5) Why do they have the conv ersati on? (6) What did they plan to do? 2) . (1) What is the topic of the passage? (2) Who is the speaker? (3) What facts did the speaker offer? (4) What facts did the speaker fail to offer? 3) .

Passage 1 Many people who work in London prefer to live outside it, and to go in to their offices or schools every day by train, car or bus, even though this means they have to get up early in the morning and reach home late in the evening. One advantage of living outside London is that houses are cheaper. Even a small flat in London without a garden costs quite a lot to rent. With the same money, one can get a little house in the country with a garden of one’s own. Then, in the country one can really get away from the noise and hurry of busy working lives. Even though one has to get up earlier and spend more time in trains or buses, one can sleep better at night and during weekends and on summer evenings, one can enjoy the fresh, clean air of the countr y. If one likes garden, one can spend one’s free time digging, planting, watering and doing the hundred and one other jobs which are needed in a garden. Then, when the flowers and vegetables come up, one has got the reward together with those who have shared the secret of Nature. Some people, however, take no interest in country things: for them, happiness lies in the town, with its cinemas and theatres, beautiful shops and busy streets, dance-halls and restaurants. Such people would feel that their life was not worth living if they had to live it outside London. An occasional walk in one of the parks and a fortnight’s (two weeks) visit to the sea every summer is all the country they want: the rest they are quite prepared to leave to those who are glad to get away from London every night. 1. Which of the following statements is NOT true? A. People who love Nature prefer to live outside the city. B. All the people who work in London prefer to live in the country. C. Some people enjoying city life prefer to work and live inside London. D. Many nature lovers, though working in London, prefer to live outside. 2. With the same money needed for ________, one can buy a little house with a garden in the country. A. getting a small flat with a garden B. having a small flat with a garden C. renting a small flat without a garden D. buying a small flat without a garden 3. When the garden is in blossom, the one ________ has been rewarded. A. living in the country B. having spent time working in the garden. C. having a garden of his own.

Many of us still tend to think that emotions can affect reasonable thought, and sometimes land us in trouble. But in recent years psychologists have taken quite a different view. Keith Oatley,Professor of Psychology at Glasgow University,is involved in the research which shows the fundamental importance of emotions. He believes we are very ambivalent about them:we think of our emotions as being unreasonable, but we also consider them as essential to being human. For example,Mr Spock,a character in the television series Star Trek,is superintelligent and he has no emotions at all. However,he is never made captain of the spaceship.Maybe, this is because Mr Spock is not the kind of person you can share your feelings with—a person who shows his emotions. As Professor Oatley points out,our emotions have very important functions, for example, fear. If we cross the road and a car approaches,we usually stop moving or step back.We stop what we are doing, check what we have done and pay very careful attention to the environment. The emotion of fear makes us take this small series of actions which,on average, help preserve our safety. On the other hand,if things are going well and small problems come up,we find we can solve them with the resources we have to hand.As a consequence,we tend to feel happy and usually continue doing the job. Anger is an emotion that tends to occur when someone is preventing us from doing something. Then this small “kit” of reactions enables us to prepare ourselves to be quite aggressive to that person,or to try harder, and so on. Professor Oatley believes emotions generally occur at these important moments in actions. With fear and anger our emotions make us decide to start doing something else, while with happiness they “suggest” we continue what we are already doing. 1.What’s Keith Oatley’s opinion about emotions? A.They affect reasonable thought. B.They get us into trouble. C.They are helpful to us. D.They are reasonable. 2.What does the underlined part “we are very ambivalent about them”in Paragraph 2 mean? A.We have contradictory feelings towards emotions. B.We have similar ideas of emotions.

(I am Bobo.) (I love you. (I am Bobo from Shuizhai High School.) (I love you with all my heart.) After chatting with Bobo on this matter for two hours from 2:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon, I returned to my class. (After chatting) (with Bobo) (on this matter) (for two hours) (from 2:00) (to 4:00) (in the afternoon), I returned (to my class). It is adj. for sb. to do句型、倒装句型、强调句型等等)再加上这“三长两短一并列”而组成的。

My name is Mike and I love China very much. 100% cars were rented out during holidays.(假期100%的车都可以租出去),正确答案是:They could rent all their cars when people were free from work.(他们可以在人们不用工作的时候把所有的车都租出去)这个里面,100%=all,holiday=people free from work,能够实现原句的同义转换,因此它肯定是正确的。
