英语经典小故事篇一人与赛特

A man and a Satyr having struck up an acquaintance, sat down together to eat. The day being wintry and cold, the man put his fingers to his mouth and blew opon them. Whats that for, my friend? asked the Satyr. My hands are so cold, said the man, I do it to warm them.

In a little while some hot food was placed before them, and the man, raising the dish to his mouth, again blew opon it. And whats the meaning of that, now? said the Satyr. Oh, replied the man, My porridge is so hot, I do it to cool it.

Nay, then, said the Satyr, from this moment I renounce(宣布放弃) your friendship, for I will have nothing to do with one who blows hot and cold with the same mouse.

英语经典小故事篇二牧童和狼

A Shepherd-boy, who tended his flock not far from a village, used to amuse himself at times in crying out Wolf! Wolf! Twice or thrice his trick succeeded. The whole village

came running out to his assistance when all the return they got was to be laughed at for their pains. At last one day the wolf came indeed. The boy cried out in earnest. But his neighbors, supposing him to be at his old sport, paid no heed to(不注意) his cries, and the wolf devoured(吞食,毁灭) the sheep.

So the boy learned, when it was too late, that liars are not believed even when they tell the truth.

An ox, grazing in a swampy(沼泽的) meadow, chanced to set his foot among a parcel of young frogs, and crushed nearly the whole brood to death.

One that escaped ran off to his mother with the dreadful news. Oh, mother! said he ,It was a beast - such a big four footed beast! That did it. Big? quoth the old frog, How big?

Was it as big -- and she puffed herself out to a great degree- as big as this? Oh! said the little one, a great deal bigger than that. well, was it so big? and she swelled herself out yetmere. Indeed, mother, but it was, and of you were to burst yourself you would never reach half its size. Provoked at such a disparagement of her powers, the old frog made one more trial, and burst herself indeed.

So men are ruined by attempting greatness to which they have no claim.

The carrots are under the ground only the leaves were out. He could not hide there but the farmer was coming closer to him, then he had an idea to dig a hole and cover the top of the hole with leaves and twigs细枝 and wait until the farmer leaves. But the farmer did not leave because he needed some carrots to make soup. Then the rabbit had another idea, he would dig under to the lettuce生菜,莴苣patch and go home, he will get muddy if he did that but if that was the only way to go home he will do it. And that was the only way to go home. So he did it but by the time he got home he was very muddy and tired. So he went to bed. When he got up he took a bath, when he got out he had a nice meal with his family. One day a mouse saw some cheese on the table but there was a cat in the house. So the mouse needed a plan to get the cat away from the table. His first idea was to make the cat chase him and then hide but then he thought of a safer idea, to go to the cat's toy basket and wind the cat's toy mouse up and make a squeak吱吱声 and let the toy mouse go. So while the cat was chasing the toy mouse the real mouse climbed on the table. When he was about to climb back down the cat came back to the kitchen to drink. So he needed another plan to get rid of the cat. His plan was to knock a cup of water over on the cat. Just then he saw the cat go to sleep. So he went back to the cat's toy basket and got someyarn and went back to the table and tied it to the cheese and lowered the cheese to the ground. Then he started pulling, but it was too hard to pull. So he got 112 mice to help him pull it to their hole in the wall. When they got there they had a nice meal together. Don't tell anyone this but I'm a fairy. Nobody knows you see because I never transform around other people. My name is Pixie and I am a green fairy. You see in the fairy tribe I come from they have three different types of fairies: the purple fairy, the green fairy and the yellow fairy. Why do we have libraries? What good are these documents and history books? Why do we record and save the actions of men, the negotiations1 of government officials and the events during wars? We do it because, sometimes, the voice of experience can cause us to stop, look and listen. Sometimes, past records, when understood in the right way, can help us decide what to do and what not to do. If we are ever to create lasting peace, we must seek its origins in human experience and in the records of human history. From the stories of courage and devotion of men and women, we create the inspirations of youth. History records the suffering, the self-denial2, the devotion, and the heroic deeds of people in the past. These records can help us when we are confused and when we really need peace.
