中国近现代著名翻译家 1、林纾，字琴南。1852年生。福建闽县人。清末民国初年学者、翻译家、光绪举人。曾任教京师大学堂。因不懂外文曾借助他人口译，用古文翻译欧美等国小说180余种，其中以小仲马《巴黎茶花女遗事》、司各德《撒克逊劫后英雄略》等最为有名，译笔流畅，对文学界有较大影响。专译欧美小说，收入《说部丛书》出版，先后译介了司各脱、迭更斯、美国欧文斯吐话(今译斯陀) 等作家的名作。清末民初，“林译小说”风靡于世。他能诗、工画，并曾从事小说，戏曲创作。著有《畏庐文集》、《畏庐诗存》及传奇、小说、笔记等多种。1924年10月9日逝世。 林琴南又与魏易、王庆骥、王庆通、陈家麟等人合作，翻译了英、法、美、比、俄、挪威、瑞士、希腊、日本和西班牙等十几个国家的几十名作家的作品一百八十余部，其中世界文学名著有四十多部。有斯托夫人的《黑奴吁天录》(《汤姆叔叔的小屋》)、兰姆的《吟边燕语》(《莎士比亚戏剧故事》)、狄更斯的《块肉余生录》(《大卫·科波菲尔》)、《孝女耐儿传》(《老古玩店》)、《贼史》(《雾都孤儿》)，以及司各德的《撒克逊劫后英雄略》(《艾凡赫》)等。 由于林琴南不懂外文，无法选择作品翻译，林琴南说：“鄙人不解西文，但能笔述，既有讹错，均出不知。” 林琴南的翻译小说无异于开启了一扇通向世界的窗户，让晚清的中国人从这里瞥见了西方的文化与人生。林译小说滋养了新文学的一代人，很多现代作家对西方文学的兴趣，就是从读林译小说开始的。

中国著名翻译家林纾 清朝末年，一个精通古汉语却不懂外文的文人，靠别人的口译，用文言文笔译了《茶花女》等近一百多部欧美小说，为当时的中国人打开了一扇接受西风欧雨的窗口。这个人就是林纾。 林纾（1852—1924）原名群玉、秉辉，字琴南，号畏庐、畏庐居士，别署冷红生。晚称蠡叟、践卓翁、六桥补柳翁、春觉斋主人。闽县（今）人，我国近代著名文学家。 林纾少孤，自云“四十五以，匪书不观”。十一岁从同里薛锡极问古文辞，读杜诗、欧文务于精熟。自十三龄至于二十，“杂收断简零篇用自磨治”，校阅古籍不下二千余卷。三十一岁结识宗言，见其兄弟积书连楹，一一借读且尽。非但经、子、史籍，凡唐宋小说家言也无不搜括。后由博览转为精读。对生平所嗜书，沉酣求索，如味醇
酒，枕籍至深。 林纾崇尚程、朱理学，读程朱二氏之书“笃嗜如饫粱肉”，却能揭露“宋儒嗜两庑之冷肉，凝拘挛曲局其身，尽日作礼容，虽心中私念美女颜色，亦不敢少动”的虚伪性，嘲笑“理学之人宗程朱，堂堂气节诛教徒。兵船一至理学慑，文移词语多模糊”。他维护封建礼教，指责青年人“欲废黜三纲，夷君臣，平父子，广其自由之途辙”，还说“荡子人含禽兽性，吾岂可与同群”，又敢把与封建礼教不相容的《迦茵小传》整部译出。严复《甲辰出都呈同里诸公》诗云： 孤山处士音琅琅，皂袍演说常登堂。 可怜一卷茶花女，断尽支那荡子肠。 林纾青年时代便关心世界形势，认为中国要富强，必须学习西方。中年而后，“尽购中国所有东西洋译本读之，提要钩元而会其通，为省中后起英隽所矜式”。他不懂外语，不能读原著，只靠“玩索译本，默印心中”，常向马尾船政学堂师生“质西书疑义”。他一生共翻译了英、美、法、俄、日、德、西班牙、比利时、娜威、瑞士、希腊等国小说180余部，其中包括莎士比亚、塞万提斯、托尔斯泰、大小仲马、狄更斯、易卜生、司各特、雨果等众多世界名作家的作品。他翻译的小说在当时的读者中曾产生了极大的形响,是大规模介绍西方文学到中国的第一人。“译才并世数严、林”,林纤在中国近代翻译史上是与严复齐名的人物。鲁迅小时候就是林纤译作的一个极为热心的读者。郭沫若在《我的幼年》中说:林琴南译的小说,在当时是很流行的,那也是我最爱好的一种读物。”他日后的文学创作就深受林纤译

关于道路名称英语翻译的探讨 作者：杨秉政 深圳正式发布干线路网命名方案，有关部门将开展更换路名指示牌等相关工作。深圳道路名称的英语翻译，错写混译，由来已久，怵目惊心。著名文化学者余秋雨说：“在文化上是没有老师的。”笔者多年对路名翻译常有涉猎，愿抛砖 引玉，和志士仁人共同探讨。 关于路名的汉语拼音。根据《汉字规范化手册》（《汉语大词典》出版社，）的有关“汉语拼音正词法基本规则”，拼写普通话基本上以词为书写单位。汉语的“词”可以是一个“字”，如“人”；也可以是两个甚至三个字组成，如“晚会”、“电视机”。据此，把地名翻译成英语，就不能单纯是汉字注音，如“深圳”，要写成，“车公庙”要写成，而不是分而拚写。 关于“高速公路”等的英译。“高速公路”有两种英语表达，即和。建议选其一，求得统一。“立交桥”英语有三种表达，即, 和。可选其一，求得统一。“广深高速”的“广深”，建议用表达，原因是汉语的简称，甚至中国人未必昭昭。如深圳的“机荷”公路，一般中国人，尤其外国人，很难想象到“机荷”是“机场”和“荷坳”的简称。再如“兰新铁路”，以“兰”为字头的中国地名有个之多，分布大陆、台湾，英语简称，所指何地，莫衷一是。“过街天桥”英语有三种表达，即, 和。可选其一，求得统一。“地下通道”，英语是，单用，只表“行人”，缺乏经由“地下”行走。 关于命名“主干道”、“快速路”为“大道”通名的英译。“深南大道”究竟怎么翻译？“深南”毫无疑义，要写成。“大道”的英语翻译现在出现几种译法：, , (), ，。查阅英语、俄语词典，（俄语Бульвар，与英语同源同音）。俄语的注释是“（城市中的）林荫道，林荫道式的街心花园。英语的注释是“市区的”林荫大道（英国）；（常用作街道名称）要道，大街（美国），如。
