There are a lot of different countries in the world, and there are even more tipping customs. When you travel you need to know how to tip in the country that you’re in, otherwise you’ll leave servers angry everywhere you go. Here arc just a few suggestions on tipping around the world.

Israel

Tipping is a fairly straight forward 10-13%. Your service may not be excellent, but those are the rules. The tip for restaurants in some parts of Tel Aviv maybe as high as 18%, so keep an eye out to avoid double tipping.

Germany

German bars and restaurants will include the tip as part of your bill. It is common to pay the bill in euro(欧元). The tip can be anywhere from 5-10%. When it’s time to settle up,you won’t get a bill: your waiter tells you the total and then you tell them how much you want to pay, including your “tip”,and hand over the money.

Czech Republic

While locals in the Czech Republic don’t leave tips, that doesn’t mean you don’t need to do that. Foreign tourists are certainly expected to leave some kind of tip for service…as long as you’re in a high tourist traffic area, like Prague for example. The standard tip is 10%.

India

If you like the service, go ahead and tip your server 5-10%. You have to work out that amount though, based on how big the meal you’re eating is. If the bill is for a small meal, and totals less than 300 rupees(卢比),tip the full 10%. If the bill is higher, tip towards the 5%.

21.In which country do the foreigners give a tip while the locals don’t?

A.Germany

B. Israel

C. India

D.Czech Republic

22. After finishing your drink in a German bar, you .

A.will be given a bill

B. must pay in US dollars.

C.may have a 10% discount

D. needn’t work out the total yourself

23.If your meal in India costs you 400 rupees, you are expected to give a tip

of .

A.10 rupees

B. 20 rupees

C. 40 rupees

D. 50 rupees

I worked hard and never gave much thought to my health. Then I was forced to think about nothing but my health.

As a reporter for three decades, I punished my body to the max- sitting on uncomfortable chairs or benches for hours trying to sort out stories, forgetting to have lunch or dinner, and going through many sleepless nights. I realized too late that my body was too often in those kinds of conditions. Sitting in the same position for hours can even be deadly.

On July I last year, 1 woke up at 4:30 am, ready to start work on an article. When I reached my computer, my arms suddenly stopped functioning. I could not move them at all.

The first two weeks in hospital were un awful experience. I was unable to write, walk or even go to the toilet. The first four days I had no food or water. It turned out that my sudden illness was because of spinal cord inflammation(脊髓炎).I was always thinking of my body, which was numb from the chest down. When I closed my eyes, I felt as if parts of my arms and legs had left my body and tlown away. To be able to function normally again, I had to stretch and strengthen my muscles. It has been an amazing and painful experience. After two and a half months,

1 was feeling much better, and was able to walk with a walking stick.

I am grateful to my family and friends for their loving care. Well-wishes and prayers(祷告)from friends both at home and far away were powerful and produced wonderful power of treatment at such a difficult time.

辽宁省实验中学分校2013-2014学年高二6月月考 英语试题 Word版含答案

第一部分:听力(1-20题略) 第二部分:阅读理解(共两节,满分40分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分) A Sports can help you keep fit and get in touch with nature. However, whether you are on the mountains, in the waves, or on the grassland, you should be aware that your sport of choice might have great influence on the environment. Some sports are resource-hungry. Golf, as you may know, eats up not only large areas of countryside, but also tons of water. Besides, all sorts of chemicals and huge amounts of energy are used to keep its courses (球场) in good condition. This causes major environmental effects. For example, in the dry regions of Portugal and Spain, golf is often held responsible for serious water shortage in some local areas. There are many environment-friendly sports. Power walking is one of them that you could take up today. You don’t need any special equipment except a good pair of shoes; and you don’t have to worry about resources and your purse. Simple and free, power walking can also keep you fit. If you walk regularly, it will be good for your heart and bones. Experts say that 20 minutes of power walking daily can make you feel less anxious, sleep well and have better weight control. Whatever sport you take up, you can make it greener by using environment-friendly equipment and b uying products made from recycled materials. But the final goal should be “green gyms”. They are better replacements for traditional health clubs and modern sports centers. Members of green gyms play sports outdoors, in the countryside or other open spaces. There is no special requirement for you to start your membership. And best of all, it’s free. 21. Which of the following is the author most probably in favor of? A. Motor racing in the desert. B.
