First, let’s talk about what yourweekly timetable will look like. No matter what your major may be, you canexpect to spend between four and six hours a week for each class attendinglecture. Lectures are usually in very large rooms
because some courses such asIntroduction to Sociology or Economics often have as many as two or threehundred students, especially at large universities. In lectures, it’s veryimportant for you to take notes on what the professor says because theinformation in a lecture is often different from that in your textbooks. Also,you can expect to have exam questions based on the lectures. So it isn’t enoughto just read your textbooks; you have to attend lectures as well. Hundreds of children are being treated for sleep problems inWales every year. In some cases, babies, infants and teenagers have beenadmitted to hospital while in north Wales alone.
The Children’s Sleep Charity said many children weresuffering from lack of sleep mainly because of technology use. Public HealthWales said sleep was as important to a child’s health as healthy eating andexercise, and children with poor sleep patterns were more likely to be fat.
Statistics obtained under the Freedom of Information Act byBBC Wales found at least 408 children have been admitted to hospitals acrossWales suffering from sleep disorders since March 2013.
Children aged between 0 and4 made up the highest number ofinpatients ,with some newborns being treated for sleep-related problems
from the day ofbirth.
Vicki Dawson, who set up the Children’s Sleep Charity ,said sleepless nights were putting both children and parents in anxiety. “Theirweight and growth may also be affected as well as their mental health,”she said.
Teachers said children showing signs of sleep shortage andtiredness in class were a concern as they couldn’t concentrate for longperiods.
Psychologist Amy McClelland, of Sleep Wales, said a commonproblem was children being “over excited” and “not having thechance to relax pr operty” before bed and families should get back tobasics. “Think 1950s family home. Dinner as a family, read, chat, a filmmaybe, lights off and then bed.” She added.
