The Importance of Practice

“Knowledge is a treasure, but practice is the key to it” is a proverbvividly showing the relationship between knowledge and practice. Apparently, this saying delivers the message that if we want to truly acquire the knowledge, we ought not to stop practicing what we’ve learned.

As for us college students, practice is of great importance. There are two reasons for this statement. To begin with, it is by practice that we can apply the knowledge we have obtained from our textbooks to solving practical problems. By doing so, we can get more experience. What’s more, knowledge has become so growingly complicated that if we don’t ponder over it again and again, we cannot genuinely grasp the essence of it. Oral English learning is a good case in point. Even if one is extremely familiar with the grammar of the language, he will never be a fluent speaker if he doesn’t open his mouth to speak.

To sum up, practice is of great importance for those who are determined to truly grasp knowledge. Practice not only assists us in getting more social experience, but also enables us to capture the essence of knowledge.

The traditional Chinese hospitality requires that the foods served are so diverse that guests cannot eat up all the dishes. A typical Chinese banquet menu includes cold dishes served at the beginning, followed by hot dishes, such as meat, poultry, vegetables, and so on. At most banquets, the whole fish is considered to be essential, unless various kinds of seafood have been served. Nowadays, Chinese people would like to combine Western specialties with traditional Chinese dishes. Therefore, it is not rare to see steak being served, either. Salad has also been catching on, although traditionally Chinese people generally do not eat any food without cooking. There is usually at least a bowl of soup, served either at the beginning or in the end of the banquet. Desserts and fruit usually mark the end of the banquet.

On Curiosity

Albert Einstein once said, “I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious.” Simple as the remark may sound, it informs us of the significance of curiosity. Actually doing everything curiously is conducive to our development and eventually leads us to success.

For one thing, curiosity is an important source of creativity, which is the key to success. Let’s take Edison as an example. It was curiosity t hat made him invent so many things and achieved great success in his career. For another, curiosity is the driving force for us to go forward. Curiosity can change boredom into freshness, which will make us acquire new knowledge constantly. Last but not least, curiosity is helpful in resolving difficulties one by one. A person with curiosity is prone to find the essence of the problem and overcome various difficulties.

From what has been mentioned above, curiosity is very important and helpful in personal development. Being enthusiastic about curiosity helps us achieve success sooner or later.

The year of 2011 is a historic moment in the process of urbanization in China, when the urban population exceeds the rural population for the first time. In the next 20 years, it is estimated that about 350 million rural populations will migrate to cities. Such a scale of urban development is both a challenge and an opportunity for urban transportation. The Chinese government has always been advocating the concept of “people-oriented” development, stressing that people should travel by buses instead of private cars. It also ca lls for the construction of “resource-saving and environment-friendly society”. With this explicit goal, Chinese cities can make better plans for their urbanization, and turn a massive investment to the development of safe, clean and economical transportation system.

Doing Small Things in a Great Way

Throughout the ages, only a few people can climb the ladder of success to the top and be admired by the world. What may surprise us is that most people achieve

success by doing small things in a great way. Just as the saying goes, “If you cannot do great things, do small things in a great way.” That means one does not necessarily become a great man, but he can still be successful and win respect from others by doing common work in a perfect way.

Actually, history abounds with examples to prove this saying. The late CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs, is a case in point. He was so addicted to details that he could not stop pushing his staff to pursue perfection in design and production. It is due to his focus on small things that Apple has made great success in the mobile field, producing products that are not only innovative, but also superior.

As college students, we should keep in mind that it is of great necessity for us to enhance ourselves by doing small things perfectly. Only when all small things add up can many impossibilities be made possible.

The Han dynasty is one of the most important dynasties in Chinese history. There are lots of remarkable achievements during the reign of the Han dynasty. Being the

first dynasty to open the door to other cultures, it excelled in foreign trade. The Silk Road opened in the Han dynasty led to Central and Western Asia, even Rome. With all sorts of art schools flourishing, there appeared many great works in literary, history, and philosophy. In 100 AD, Chin a’s first dictionary was completed, which included 9000 characters, providing definitions and different ways to write the characters. During that period, the science and technology had also made great progress, with paper, water clock, sundials and instruments used to measure earthquakes invented. Though the Han dynasty had a history of 400 years, the corruption of its rulers finally contributed to its collapse.

For each of them there are four choices marked A), B), C) and D). You should decide on the best choice and mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the centre. Passage One Questions 21 to 25 are based on the following passage. In 1985 when a Japan Air Lines (JAL) jet crashed, its president, Yasumoto Takagi, called each victim’s family to apologize, and then promptly resigned. And in 1987, when a subsidiary of Toshiba sole sensitive military technology to the former Soviet Union, the chairman of Toshiba gave up his post. These executive actions, which Toshiba calls “the highest form of apology,”may seem bizarre to US managers. No one at Boeing resigned after the JAL crash, which may have been caused by a faulty Boeing repair. The difference between the two business cultures centers around different definitions of delegation. While US executives give both responsibility and authority to their employees, Japanese executives delegate only authority—the responsibility is still theirs. Although the subsidiary that sold the sensitive technology to the Soviets had its own management, the Toshiba top executives said they “must take personal responsibility for not creating an atmosphere throughout the Toshiba group that would make such activity unthinkable, even in an independently run subsidiary.” Such acceptance of community responsibility is not unique to businesses in Japan. School principals in Japan have resigned when their students committed major crimes after school hours. Even if they do not quit, Japanese executives will often accept primary responsibility in other ways, such as taking the first pay cut when a company gets into financial trouble. Such personal sacrifices, even if they are largely symbolic, help to create the sense of community and employee loyalty that is crucial to the Japanese way of doing business. Harvard Business School professor George Lodge calls the ritual acceptance of blame “almost a feudal (封建的) way of purging (清除) the community of dishonor,”and to some in the United States, such resignations look cowardly. However, in an era in which both business and governmental leaders seem particularly good at evading responsibility, many US managers would probably welcome an infusion (灌输) of the Japanese sense of responsibility, If, for instance,

2017年6月大学英语六级考试真题及答案解析(第一套) Part I Writing (30 minutes) Directions: Suppose you are asked to give advice on whether to attend a vocational college or a university, write an essay to state your opinion. You are required to write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words. 【参考范文】 Whether to Attend a Vocational College or a University? It’s an undisputable truth that virtually all high school graduates will encounter the choices between a vocational college and a university. And when it comes to this question, students’ ideas are not cut from the same cloth. In point of which to choose and what to be taken into consideration, my advices are as follow. In the first place, we should be conscious of the fact that both of the two choices have its own superiorities. For instance, a vocational college specializes in cultivating human resources with practical capabilities; while a university serves as the cradle of academic researchers in different fields. Then it does follow that high school graduates should have a clear picture of themselves. That is to say, they should know their merits and demerits and their choices must give play to their strengths whilst circumvent weaknesses. In addition, interest is the best teacher and it’s also the premise of learning on one’s own initiative. Thus interest must be taken into account because it can not only decide how far one can reach academically and professionally but also how happy and fulfilled one will be. In brief, all above just goes to show that there really is no one-size-fits-all answer for the question. The key lies in a clear cognition, accurate self-positioning and the interest of oneself. Only then can every one find a right path that works best for us. Part II Listening Comprehension (30 minutes) Section A Directions: In this section, you will hear two long conversations. You can cite examples to illustrate your views. 150-200 words. 【答案】Without a doubt, a mutually-trusted relation between businesses and consumers is important for the two parties. First of all, though business is objective, cooperation is relatively subjective. Only when a consumer believe in what a businessman is selling, he or she could decide to buy something from the man. In reality, I have seen too many consumers purchase or refuse one commodity only because they like or dislike the salesman who they meet, especially when they are in a bad mood. Secondly, when one businessman consider that a customer trusts him, he would feel honored and satisfied thereby giving more preference to the customer. Naturally, when one businessman offers the best quality goods and the best prices to a customer, the customer has no excuse to refuse the businessman. Once such relation informed, both the two parties gain profit from it Hence, both businesses and consumers should work together to form a reciprocal relation. PartⅢReading Section A

You should write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words. 【参考范文】 There is no doubt that community responsibility plays an indispensable role in personal development, for instance, in the workplace. There are several factors accounting for this perspective and the following are the most typical ones. First and foremost, a strong sense of community responsibility is helpful to develop harmonious interpersonal relationships. As we all know, we are very likely to spend more time with our colleagues than our families after entering the workplace. Therefore, the sound working atmosphere and interpersonal relationships among employees are crucial to both physical and mental pleasure. In addition, community responsibility can improve efficiency. In the fast-paced modern society, time is money and efficiency holds the key to saving time. As the saying goes, two heads are better than one. So great importance should be attached to the cultivation of the sense of community responsibility and we will eventually benefit from it. From what has been mentioned above, we can come to the conclusion that the sense of community responsibility is a kind of good personal quality, which deserves our attention. Part Ⅰ Listening Comprehension (30 minutes) Section A Directions:In this section, you will hear two long conversations.
