Oral Presentation of the Teaching Plan for

Module 1 Our Body and Health Habits

Good morning, honourable judges, I’m XXX. It’s my great pleasure to be here sharing my lesson with you. My teaching objects are the first grade students in senior high school, and my teaching material selected from the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press Module 1 Our Body and Healthy Habits. This is an introduction part. I have been ready to begin this presentation with five parts: Analysis of the text book, analysis of the students, the teaching methods and the learning strategies, the teaching procedure,and the blackboard design.

First,let me talk about the text book. This unit is about the body and healthy habits. After studying this unit, students can know how to keep a healthy body. This is a introduction and vocabulary part, also the beginning of this unit. This part is a very important one to arouse students’ interests and develop their sense of being healthy. I not only choose the content in the text book, but also extend to the proverbs which are familiar to students. If students can learn this part well, it will be helpful to study the rest of this unit.

According to the new English Curriculum Standard and the syllabus,when teaching, teachers should lay emphasis on the five skills—listening, speaking, reading writing and translation. And the five skills should be integrated well because when we communicate, we often use more than a single skill. My understanding of the teaching objectives contains three aspects: language objectives, ability objectives and moral objectives. After studying this lesson, students can master some important words and phrases about illness of body, like diet,fit,flu. And the Ss know how to describe one’s healthy habits. And they can improve their speaking ability and the ability of studying by cooperation. Through the study of this period, Ss can also learn that it is important for us to choose healthy food, then they can develop their own healthy diet and a good habit of exercise.

Now, let’s come to the important points and the difficult points which based on the position and function of this part in this unit. After studying the teaching material and analysing the rule of children’s growing of mind, I think they might have difficulties in memorising the words and translating the proverbs. And I’ll focus on the teaching of new words about health and developing their ability of speaking.

About the analysis the students: The students of class 2, Grade 1 have got some strategies of memorising vocabularies and make sentences, however, they need to improve more. And their speaking ability is not as good as expected,which might more or less be improved in this class through some practise. And the students in my class are of different levels, so I should adapt the lesson to each of them. So I often use some activities to finish some tasks by individual, pair work and group work so that each of them can be involved in the English class.

A good teaching method the teacher adopt should be able to benefits students to master the knowledge and ability. After analysis of the students’ learning background, I will use the following methods: firstly, The Direct Method, I’ll use some pictures to

arouse students interests on the review part. Task-based Language Teaching, I’ll give the students some tasks to do during this lesson. This method can develop students’ability to solve the problems, and also, they can be more concentrated. The Communicative Language Teaching, I’ll divide them into groups and let them communicate and cooperate with other members. Besides, Translation Method, I’ll ask them to translate the proverbs. As for a learning method, they are poor in cooperative learning skills. Some students are not very active in class, therefore, I’ll offered them a relaxing atmosphere. I’ll teach the students how to communicate and cooperate with others. And encourage them use English in the whole class. Teaching procedures

I’ll finish this lesson in four steps.

Step 1, lead in. First, I’ll play a song for the students to attract their attention. Then, I will show some pictures to the students, which are helpful for them to review the vocabulary which are connected with today’s topic.

Step 2, presentation. This is a very important part, I’ll mainly talk about it.

Firstly. I’ll teach them new words about health and tell them details about some of the words. Then students should review the words in time by a drawing. Secondly, I’ll give them a health test which can help students to check their health condition. And after this is a pair work. Students are asked to communicate with their partners about their healthy or unhealthy habits based on the health test before. This part can develop their ability of cooperation and communication.

Step 3, a speaking part. This is a group work part. I’ll divide students into four groups and bring the competition into class. At last, we’ll see which group is the winner. I’ll give them two tasks in this part. The first one is to translate four proverbs into Chinese. And the second one is to think as many Chinese Proverbs as they can. This is a period which can arouse students’interests and cultivate their divergent thinking.

Step 4, summary. I’ll lead the students to summary and review what they have learnt in this lesson. I’ll count this part into a competition part.

Homework

Let’s move to the homework. I think home work is a very important part for the learning of students. It’s an extension of the class. Thus, I asked them to fill out a form about health and try to translate some Chinese proverbs into English. Blackboard design

About the blackboard, it is divided into two parts: on the left are the difficult words and sentence pattern; on the right is a table for a feedback of students’ points. Reflections

I think the advantages are the followings: firstly, I have done full preparation before class.I have offered the students a relaxed situation to study. Through pair work and group work they have learned how to cooperate with others. The disadvantage is the ability of control the whole class should be improved, and I haven’t referred to the grammar and sentence so much, so the students might feel uneasy when they make sentences. About these advantages, I want to ask for your advice.
