In America, each of the states likes to promote itself with a slogan(口号). I currently live in Utah, where the slogan is “Life Elevated”. It's a nod to outdoor entertainment in the high country, including the ski industry.

I previously lived in Colorado, a land with red dirt, great mountains and golden plains. The slogan there is “Colorful Colorado”. Years ago I lived in the “Peach State” of Georgia, and I grew up in New Mexico as a little boy, whose slogan is “Land of Enchantment(魔力)”.

We never seemed to get away from dust in New Mexico, so I appreciate the story of a newcomer to the Land of Enchantment who learned about dusty breezes. She was visiting an antique shop and the owner wiped down every item before showingit. The newcomer said, “Everything gets dusty here pretty quickly, doesn't it?”“That's not dust, honey,”the shop owner replied, “That's ENCHANTMENT”. That made the problem more acceptable. An escalator(自动扶梯)broke, so he posted a sign to warn customers. He chose not to use the traditional “Out of Order”or “Do Not Use” warnings. Instead, his sign read, “This Escalator Is Temporarily a Stairway”. He turned a minus into humor and made it a plus.

And in fact there are some things, like the weather, we can't change. All we can change is our ways that we think and feel about them. I believe one of the best techniques to do this is to find some humor in the situation. Finding something amusing or enjoyable of difficulty, an irritation or a troublesome problem can be one of the most creative and effective things we can do. Sometimes the only sense you can make of a situation is a sense of humor.

25. The first paragraph is severed as a(n) .

A.introduction

B.predication

C.explanation

D.conclusion

26. How would the newcomer probably feel after hearing what the shop owner said?

A.Angry.

B.Curious.

C.Relaxed.

D.Nervous.

27. What's the purpose of the writer's writing the passage?

A.To encourage people to find the funny side in their daily life.

B.To show the effects of using slogans to raise the position.

C.To explain the skills of turning a disadvantage into humor.

D.To tell the strange experience of a bargain in an antique shop.

28.What do “it” refer to?

A.dusty on items

B.the antigue shop

C.An item for sale

D.the Land of Enchantment

Jason, our son, was born with cerebral palsy(脑瘫). My wife Margaret and I often comforted him as he faced many challenges in his early years.

It was heartbreaking to see him regularly chosen last for breakfast, but he was a happy child and well liked by his peers throughout elementary school. His most difficult time came when he began high school. One afternoon, Jason returned home in tears. He threw his bag on the floor and shouted: “I’m never going to school again!” He was covered with food that other kids had thrown at him on the sc hool bus on the way home. Jason later told us what had happened.

A few days earlier, Jason had signed up for the school running team. That day, a few older students made fun of his performance on the track and made him the target of their one-sided food fight. I called the principal about the humiliation on the bus, and it never happened again. Jason stayed on the team, even though the harassment(骚扰)continued.

One day in October, we had snow and freezing rain. As the other kids exercised in the gym, they noticed one long runner-Jason-jogging around the snow-covered track.

A few weeks later, Jason had something to tell us. "Mom, Dad, sit down," he said. I was ready for the worst. He told us that each month, students chose an “athlete of the month''. The coa ch would list the top athletes, and students voted for the winner. Jason's name had never been listed. But that day, one of the nominees said: "Sir, I would like to nominate Jason for athlete of the month." The coach looked surprised. "He works harder than any of us, Sir," the student continued. “We will have to have someone second the nomination," the coach replied.

A tear formed in Jason’s eye as he told us what happened next. "Mom… Dad…everyone in the class put their hands up." His mother and I, also in tears, looked on as he proudly displayed his certificate.

Whenever I despair, I think of this story.Iremind myself that challenges are not overcome by force, but

2021届河南省信阳市普通高中高三上学期第一次教学质量检 测数学(文)试题 一、单选题 1.若集合{} 21A x x =-≤, B x y ?? ==?? ,则A B 等于( ) A .[]1,2- B .(]2,3 C .[)1,2 D .[)1,3 【答案】C 【解析】分別化简集合A ,B ,再根据定义求交集. 【详解】 {} {}21|13A x x x x =-≤≤≤=,{}|2 B x y x x ?? ===

【答案】C 【解析】根据零点存在定理,可判断出零点所在的相邻整数区间,即可由定义求得()0g x 的值. 【详解】 函数()ln 4f x x x =+-在(0,)+∞递增, 且(2)ln 220f =-<,(3)ln 310f =->, 所以函数()f x 存在唯一的零点0(2,3)x ∈, 故()02g x =, 故选:C. 【点睛】 本题考查了零点存在定理的简单应用,由定义求函数值,属于基础题. 4.近年来,随着“一带一路”倡议的推进,中国与沿线国家旅游合作越来越密切,中国到“一带一路”沿线国家的游客人也越来越多,如图是2013-2018年中国到“一带一路”沿线国家的游客人次情况,则下列说法正确的是( ) ①2013-2018年中国到“一带一路”沿线国家的游客人次逐年增加 ②2013-2018年这6年中,2014年中国到“一带一路”沿线国家的游客人次增幅最小 ③2016-2018年这3年中,中国到“一带一路”沿线国家的游客人次每年的增幅基本持平 A .①②③ B .②③ C .①② D .③ 【答案】A 【解析】根据折线图,分析图中的数据逐一判断即可. 【详解】 由图中折线逐渐上升,即每年游客人次逐渐增多,故①正确; 由图在2014年中折线比较平缓,即2014年中游客人次增幅最小,故②正确;

The most important factor weighing on many traditional companies will be the high cost of launching a serious machine-learning operation. Netflix is estimated to spend $150m a year on a single application and the total bills is probably four times that once all its uses of the technology are taken into account. Another problem for many non-technology companies is talent.Of the computer science experts who use Kaggle, only about 1000 have deep learning skills, compared to 100,000 who can apply other machine learning techniques, says Mr Goldbloom. He adds that even some big companies of this type are often reluctant to expend their pay scales to hire the top talent in this field. A third barrier to adapting to the coming era of “smart” applications, however, is likely to be
