Bandhavgarh National Park in India is best known for its large biodiversity. The density of the tiger population at Bandhavgarh is the highest in the country. In addition to tigers, the park also has a large population of leopards, and various species of deer.

Location: In Madhya Pradesh state, almost 200 kilometers northeast of Jabalpur. The nearest village is Tala, which is the access point of the park.

Opening Hours and Safari Timings

Safaris operate twice a day, starting at dawn until late morning, and mid-afternoon until sunset. The best time to visit the park is early in the morning or after 4 p.m. to spot the animals. The park is closed from July to September due to the monsoon(季节) season.

Bandhavgarh Zones

Bandhavgarh is divided into three main zones: Tala (the park's best zone, with the most tigers), Magdhi (the second best zone to see tigers), and Khitauli (scenic and less visited, although tiger sightings do occur there; particularly good for birding).

Entry Fees and Charges for Jeep Safaris

Bandhavgarh has become expensive to visit in recent years. Entry fees have increased since October 2014. When going on a safari, separate fees must be paid for park entry and jeep hire. Entry tickets are priced per vehicle (up to six people). For 2018-19, park entry tickets cost as follows: Tala Zone: 2,400 rupees(卢比) for Indians, 4,800 rupees for international tourists. (Up to six people)

Other Zones: 1,200 rupees for Indians, 2,400 rupees for international tourists. (Up to six people) Jeep Hire

Expect to pay about 2,200 rupees to hire a jeep, in addition to the entry cost. This can be done at the park entrance. All hotels can arrange jeep hire and tours, but at a higher rate. It's much less trouble though. Besides, unlike many national parks in India, it's possible to take private vehicles into Bandhavgarh.

During the past weeks, thousands of people wearing the "yellow vests" have taken to the

streets across France, causing violence and conflicts. For example, in Paris on Nov 24, many tourism streets were littered with burnt cars and broken glass, and the Arc de Triomphe monument was defaced with graffiti.

The protests(抗议) started as opposition to the increase in France's' fuel tax, introduced by the French government to encourage people to use more environmentally friendly transport. However, the rising fuel tax is believed to increase peoples' expenses(花费), especially for those in small towns and in rural France where most get around by car and have low-paying jobs. Meanwhile, French students have also joined the protests, as they oppose the government's recent educational reforms.

With more people attending, the protests have grown into wider criticism that French President Emmanuel Macron doesn't care about the problems of ordinary people and that his policies favor the rich, reported the Associated Press.

"Macron came out of the banks and finance, and that goes down very badly for many people," Thierry Paul Valette, a protest coordinator in Paris, told Time magazine.

Macron's style of communication was also being criticized. His manner has fueled the idea

that he doesn't understand the lives of ordinary people, reported Time magazine For example, in September, Macron told an unemployed man that he could land a job at a local cafe if he just “crossed the street”.

To calm down the protesters, Macron promised a minimum wage rise and broad tax reduction for struggling workers in a televised address on Dec 10.

It is a question people have been asking for—ages. Is there a way to turn back the aging process in people? For centuries, people have been looking for a "fountain of youth." The idea is that if you find a magical fountain, and drink from its waters, you will not age.

Researchers in New York did not find an actual fountain of youth, but they may have found a way to turn back the aging process. It appears the answer may be hidden right between your eyes, in an area called the hypothalamus(下丘脑). The hypothalamus is part of your brain. It controls important activities within the body. They include growth, reproduction and the way we process food.

Researchers at New York's Albert Einstein College of Medicine found that hypothalamus neural stem cells also influence how fast aging takes place in the body.

What are stem cells? They are simple cells that can develop into specialized cells, like blood or skin cells. Stem cells can also repair damaged tissues and organs.

Dongsheng Cai is a professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He was the lead researcher in a study on aging in mice. He and his team reported their findings in the journal Nature.

“Aging speed is controlled, can be controlled by a particular place in the body, which is the hypothalamus. And it can be controlled by a particular type of cells, which are hypothalamus stem cells.” He adds that when the hypothalamus starts aging, so does the body. “So when hypothalamus function is in decline, particularly the loss of hypothalamus stem cells, and this protection against the aging development is lost, it eventually leads to aging.”

Using this information, the researchers began trying to activate, or energize, the hypothalamus in laboratory mice. They did this by injecting the animals with stem cells. Later, the researchers examined tissues and tested for changes in behavior. They looked for changes in the strength and coordination of the animals’ muscles. They also studied the social behavior and cognitive (认知的)ability of the mice. The researchers say the results show that the treatment slowed aging in the animals.

“ When we injected the hypothalamus stem cells, which were derived from young mice, we injected them to the middle-aged mice and that was, in fact, to slow down aging. So the mouse aged

slowly and they also have increased their lifespan, which is longevity.”

But these results were just from studying mice in a laboratory. If the mice can live longer, does that mean people could have longer lives? The next step is to see if the anti-aging effects also work in human beings. “If we can translate what we have seen in animals to humans, I think humans, they can function better during later ages, later stage of aging.”

Cai and his team say their studies may have other benefits. They say the findings could lead to new ways to help doctors identify and treat any number of age-related health issues.

1.What do we know about the hypothalamus?

A.It’s located in the eyes.

B.It starts aging due to the increase of its stem cells.

C.It plays a key role in controlling the aging process.

D.It functions well when the body starts aging.

2.What did the researchers do during the experiment?

A.They strengthened the muscles of the mice.

B.They examined tissues and tested the behavior of mice.

C.They injected the stem cells into the younger mice.

D.They changed the social behavior and cognitive ability of the mice.

3.What do we know about the study done by Cai?

A.They have found a way to turn back the aging process.

B.The brain controls growth, reproduction and the way we process food.

C.The decrease of hypothalamus stem cells can lead to aging.

D.The finding has been applied to human being.

4.What would the researchers probably do next?

A.Inject stem cells of young mice into humans.

B.Research on the cognitive psychology.

C.Help human beings live longer.

D.Do similar experiments on human beings.

5.Which of the following can be the best titles for the passage?

A.How human being age

B.A new discovery about cells

C.The ways of slowing down aging

D.Researchers use brain cells to control aging in mice

D

There is an old joke among pilots that says the ideal flight crew is a computer, a pilot and a dog. The computers job is to fly the plane. The pilot is there to feed the dog. And the dog’s job is to bite the pilot if he tries to touch the computer.

Handling complex tasks to computers is not new. But recent progress in machine learning, a sub field of artificial intelligence (AI), has enabled computers to handle many problems which were

previously beyond them. The result has been an AI boom, with computers moving into everything from medical diagnosis and insurance to self-driving cars.

There is a problem, though Machine learning works by giving computers the ability to train themselves, which adapts their programming to the task at hand. People struggle to understand exactly how those self-written programs do what they do. When algorithms are doing small tasks, such as playing chess or recommending a film to watch, this "black box" problem can be safely ignored. When they are deciding who gets a loan, or how to drive a car through a crowded city, it is potentially harmful. And when things go wrong, then customers, regulators and the courts will want to know why.

For some people this is a reason to hold back Al. France's digital-economy minister, Mounir Mahjoubi, has said that the government should not use any algorithm whose decisions cannot be explained. But that is an overreaction. The difficulties caused by clever computers are not unheard of. Society already has plenty of experience dealing with problematic black boxes; the most common are called human beings, who can’t even figure out what's going on in a brain. In response to the weakness in humans, society has evolved a series of workable coping mechanisms, called laws, rules and regulations. Many of these can be applied to machines as well.

Humans have worked with computers on complex tasks for decades. One lesson from such applications is that, wherever possible, people should supervise the machines. In that joke, lots are necessary in case something happens that is beyond the scope of artificial intelligence. As computers spread, companies and governments should ensure the first line of defence is a real person who can overrule the algorithms if necessary.

Al is bound to suffer some troubles. But it also promises extraordinary benefits and the difficulties it poses are not unprecedented(无先例的) If the new black boxes prove tricky, there will be time to toughen the rules

1. Why is the joke mentioned in Paragraph 1?

A. To make people laugh.

B. To predict future airplane industry

C. To introduce the latest model of airplanes.

D. To raise people's awareness of computers performing complex tasks

2. What has caused the increasing application of computers in various fields?

A. The shortage of labor force

B. The rise of artificial intelligence

C. The encouragement of governments. D, The development of economy

3. Why are some people opposed to Al according to the article?

A. Black boxes always go wrong

B. Al may become too smart to be controlled by human beings.

C. They don't understand how Al works

D. Computers are trying to replace human beings.

4. What does the author suggest people do with AI?

A. Stop panic and welcome Al

B. Reduce the usage of algorithms

C. Supervise AI wherever possible

D. Deal with the "black box" problem.

5. What's the author's attitude towards the development of AT?

A. Supportive

B. Indifferent

C. Pessimistic.

D. Neutral

Jessica Cox, 25, a girl without arms, stands inside an aircraft. The girl from Tucson, Arizona got the Sport Pilot certificate lately and became the first pilot licensed to fly using only her feet.

Jessica Cox was born without arms, but that has only stopped her from doing one thing: using the word "can't".

With one foot manning the controls and the other delicately guiding the steering column, Cox 25, soared to achieve a Sport Pilot certificate. Her certificate qualifies her to fly a light-sport aircraft to altitudes of 10,000 feet. She made what's seemingly impossible become a reality.

"She's a good pilot. She's rock solid." said Parrish Traweek, 42, the flying instructor at San Manuel's Ray Blair Airport.

Parrish Traweek runs PC Aircraft Maintenance and Flight Services and has trained many pilots, some of whom didn't come close to Cox's abilities.

"When she came up here driving a car, Traweek recalled, "I knew she'd have no problem flying plane.”

And piloting a plane is only one of Jessica's achievements. Jessica who works as a motivational speaker, also drives car, has a black belt at taekwondo, uses a computer and otherwise lives a normal life. She is so adept at using her feet, she is even able to insert her contact lenses and apply makeup using only her feet. In her role as a motivational speaker, Jessica has inspired audiences across the United States.
