There is a definite possibility that the climate of the world may be changing. Some scientists imagine that this could even mean the beginning of another ice age. The effects of such a change in climate on the human population of the world would be startling(惊人的).

Recent research suggests that the general warming trend of the past hundred years or so may be coming to an end. During the past ten years, meteorologists tell us the average temperature of the Earth has dropped about one degree Fahrenheit. This does not seem like much, but it could have effects on wind and rain patterns which influence the overall weather picture. If these patterns change a lot, it could mean that certain regions of the world may continue to have long droughts while others will possibly suffer from widespread flooding.

What regulates(调节)the climate is not exactly known. Meteorologists believe that clouds may be an important factor in regulating the amount of solar heat held by the Earth, which in turn determines the temperature of the planet. Another possibility is t hat man’s industrial and agricultural methods may be affecting the natural weather patterns. However, the weather is not understood well enough for scientists to say for certain what is happening to the climate and what side effects this will actually have on the world’s population.

Forgiveness

Forgiveness is a quality that is difficult to possess. When someone has deeply hurt you, it can be extremely difficult to let go of your hate. However, forgiveness is possible, and it can be surprisingly beneficial to your physical and mental health. People who forgive show less sadness, anger and stress and more hopefulness, according to a recent research.

36 Try the following steps:

Calm yourself. 37 You can take a couple of breaths and think of something that gives

you pleasure: a beautiful scene in nature, or someone you love.

Don’t wait for an apology. Many time s the person who hurt you does not intend to apologize. They may have wanted to hurt you or they just don’t see things the same way.

38 Keep in mind that forgiveness does not necessarily mean becoming friends again with the person who upset you.

Take the control away from your offender(冒犯者). Rethinking about your hurt gives power to the person who caused you pain. Instead of focusing on your wounded feelings, learn to look for the love, beauty and kindness around you.

39 If you understand your offender, you may realize that he or she was acting out of unawareness, fear, and even love. You may want to write a letter to yourself from your offender’s point of view.

Don’t forget to forgive yourself. 40 But it can rob you of your self--confidence if you don’t do it.

A. Why should you forgive?

B. How should you start to forgive?

C. To make your anger die away, try a simple stress-management technique.

六、书面表达(满分25分)

How to manage children’s pocket money

Nowadays, many children receive pocket money from their elders, but to some parents, how to manage children’s pocket money remains a problem.

People have different ideas about how to manage children’s pocket money. Some people think parents should take good care of the money while others argue that children should learn to manage it themselves.

I agree with the latter because managing money can do much good to children. First, it offers a chance for children to develop a sense of duty. Second, it can also help children to learn about the value of money. Finally, it makes it possible for children to develop some social skills that are necessary for their future life.
