1、(河南省郑州市第47中学高一第一次月考)Good health is the most valuable thing in the world. When you’ve got it, you never think about it. When you haven’t got it, you think about it all the time. Our biggest enemies are not terrible diseases and so on. We are our own biggest enemies because we sometimes destroy our own good health. Some of us eat too much, drink too much and smoke too much. And though our reason tells us we should control ourselves, we find it difficult. The fact is that most human beings need stimulation (刺激). Who doesn’t enjoy a drink after a busy day? Only a smoker knows the pleasure of a cigarette with a cup of c offee.

The danger is when these innocent pleasures run our lives and so destroy our health. When you find yourself eating between meals or eating too much rich food, when you can only keep yourself going by taking frequent (频繁的) drinks or by smoking one cigarette after another, then it’s time to stop and think what you might be doing to yourself. The funny thing is that when we don’t control ourselves, simple pleasures are no longer simple pleasures.

All right, I know what you’re thinking. You’re probably saying, ―It’s easy to say, but I can’t help myself. I need that extra bit of food, that extra drink, that extra cigarette. Life has so many plea sures that I can’t do without them.‖ But I’m saying you can help yourself. Not only that, you must help yourself. Because if you don’t help yourself, no one else can. So be your own best friend.

36. The underlined word ―innocent‖(in Paragraph 2) means ________.

A. not having done something wrong

B. exciting or cheering

C. not having much experience

D. not expected to cause harm

37. This passage is mainly about ________.

A. terrible diseases and so on

B. enjoying pleasures after a busy day

C. the difficulty of controlling ourselves

A. I can’t do it myself

B. I must ask someone to help

C. I can’t control myself

D. Do help me, please

2、(湖北省监利中学高一第一次月考)All over the world people enjoy sports, Sports help to keep people healthy and happy, and to live longer.

Many people like to watch others play games. They buy tickets or turn on their TVs to watch the games. Often they get very excited when "their" player or team wins.

Some sports are so interesting that people everywhere go in for(参加) them. Football, for example, has spread(展开)around the world. 1、(河南省醒民高中高一下学期期末考试)A few years ago, I took a sightseeing trip to Washington D.C. I saw many of our nation’s treasures, and I also saw a lot of unfortunate people like beggars and homeless folks in the streets.

Standing outside the Ronald Reagan Center, I heard a voice say, “Can you help me?”When I turned around, I saw an elderly blind woman with her hand extended(伸出). In a natural reaction,

I reached into my pocket, pulled out all of my loose change and placed it in her hand. I didn’t even look at her. I was annoyed at being bothered by a beggar.

But the blind woman smiled and said, ―I don’t want your money. I just need help finding the post office.‖

Immediately, I realized what I had done. I acted with prejudice(偏见)—I judged another person simply for what I thought she was.

The thing I had forgotten about myself is that I am an immigrant. I left Honduras and arrived in America at the age of 15. Through the years, I have been a dishwasher, cashier, mechanic and pizza delivery driver among many other jobs, and finally I became a network engineer.

In my own life, I have experienced many open acts of prejudice. I remember a time, at age 17— I was a busboy, and I heard a father tell his little boy that if he did not do well at school, he would end up like me.

But now, living in my American middle-class lifestyle, it is too easy to forget my past, to forget who I am and where I have been, and to lose sight of where I want to be going. That blind woman on the street of Washington D.C. cured me of my blindness. She reminded me to always keep my eyes and heart open.

51. When the author came to America at first ______.

A. he usually did some work with a little payment.

B. he used to beg for some money on the street.

A. to encourage his son to make a living by himself

B. his son to become a busboy in the future

C. his son to work harder at school

D. to remind his son to depend on himself at school

54. We can infer all of the following statements from the passage EXCEPT ______.

A. He disliked being bothered by beggars.

B. He was delighted to give away his money to beggars.

C. He once suffered a lot.

D. The blind woman didn’t beg for money at that time.

55. What does the author want to tell us through this story?

A. Don’t dream up ways to get what you want.

B. Money is the root of all evils.

2、(黑龙江省鹤北林业局高级中学09-10学年期末考)Today anyone will accept money in exchange for goods and services. People use money to buy food, furniture, books, bicycles and hundreds of other things we need or want. When they work, they usually get paid in money.

Lots of the money today is made of paper. But people used to use all kinds of things as money. One of the first kinds of money was shells. Shells were not the only things used as money.

In China, cloth and knives were used. In the Philippine Islands, rice was used as money for a long time. Some Africans once used elephant tusks, monkey tails, and salt as money.

The first metal coins were made in China. They were round and had a square hole in the center. Different countries have used different metals and designs for their money. Later, countries began to make coins of gold and silver.

But even gold and silver were inconvenient if you had to buy something expensive. Again the Chinese thought of a way to improve money. They began to use paper money. The first paper money looked more like a note from one person to another than the paper money used today. Money has had an interesting history, from the days of shell money until today.

3、(湖南龙山皇仓中学高一9月月考)In this century the traditional American family is constantly faced with the threat of breakdown. Some sociologists suggest that one little –noticed cause may be the introduction of the TV dinner.

Before the appearance of television seats, the American dinner was a big event for the family. In many homes dinner time may be the only time when everyone got together. A typical dinner was usually in three stages. In the preparation stage, the children and Father frequently helped with setting while Mother put the last touches on the roast. In the eating stage, family members shared the day’s experiences and more than food was consumed. In this stage families got to know one another and made joint decisions around the dinner table, and thus the family solidarity(团结)was strengthened. In the cleaning –up stage, children or Father again gave their hands, so that their significance to the home community was clear. Unfortunately, all of these have been erased by a product—the television set.

By the beginning of the 1980s, the typical American family dinner was just twenty minutes long. The speed –up of this once –leisurely experiences is clearly connected to the overall pace of modern life and maybe a model of the modern life is the TV dinners—meals designed to be

7、(福建省四地六校联考高一第一次月考)English is the most widely used language in the history of our planet. One in every seven human beings can speak it. More than half of the world’s books and three quarters of international mail are in English. Of all languages, English has the largest vocabulary — perhaps as many as two million words.

However, let’s face it: English is a crazy language. There is no egg in an eggplant, neither pine nor apple in a pineapple and no ham in a hamburger. Sweet-meats are candy, while sweetbreads,

which aren’t sweet, are meat.

We take English for granted. But when we explore its paradoes (探索它的矛盾), we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square, public bathrooms have no baths in them. And why is it that a writer writes, but fingers don’t fing, grocers don’t groce, and hammers don’t ham? If the plural of tooth is teeth, shou ld’t the plural of booth be beeth? One goose, two geese —so one moose, two meese?

How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites? How can overlook and oversee be opposites, while quite a lot and quite a few are alike? How can the weather be hot as hell one day and cold as hell the next?

English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of human beings. That’s why, when stars are out, they are visible (能看见的); but when the lights are out, they are invisible. And why, when I wind up my watch, I start it; but when I wind up this essay, I end it.

67. According to the passage ________.

A. sweet-meats and sweetbreads are different things

B. there should be egg in an eggplant

C. pineapples are the apples on the pine tree

D. boxing rings should be round

69. Which of the following includes two items that have the similar meaning?

B. Overlook and oversee.

C. Hot as hell and cold as hell.

He is dead!Of course he isn't really dead. With any luck he isn't even hurt. Why? Because the men who fall out of high windows or jump from fast moving trains, who crash cars of even catch fire, are professionals. They do this for a living. These men are called stuntmen. That is to say, they perform tricks. There are two sides to their work. They actually do most of the things you see on the screen. For example, they fall from a high building. However, they do not fall on to hard ground but on to empty cardboard boxes covered with a mattress (床垫). Again, when they hit one another with chairs, the chairs are made of soft wood and when they crash through windows, the glass is made of sugar! But although their work depends on trick of this sort, it also requires a high degree of skill and training. Often a stuntman' s success depends on careful timing. For example, when he is "blown up" in a battle scene, he has to jump out of the way of the explosion just at the right moment.

Naturally stuntmen are well paid for their work, but they lead dangerous lives. They often get seriously injured, and sometimes killed. A Norwegian stuntman, for example, skied over the edge of a cliff (悬崖) a thousand feet high. His parachute (降落伞) failed to open, and he was killed. In spite of all the risks, this is no longer a profession for men only. Men no longer dress up as women

when actresses have to perform some dangerous action. For nowadays there are stuntgirls tool

10、(河南省方城县月考)Killer bees started in Brazil in 1957. A scientist in Sao Paulo wanted bees to make more honey. So he put forty-six African bees with some Brazilian bees. The bees bred and made a new kind of

bee. But the new bees were a mistake. They did not want to make more honey. They wanted to attack. Then, by accident, twenty-six African bees escaped and bred with the Brazilian bees outside.

Scientists could not control the problem. The bees spread. They went from Brazil to Venezuela. Then they went to Central America. Now they are in North America. They travel about 390 miles a year. Each group of bees, or colony (群体), grows four times a year. This means one million new colonies every five years.

Why are people afraid of killer bees? People are afraid for two reasons. First, the bees sting (刺痛、蜇) many more times than a normal bee. Killer bees can sting sixty times a minute non-stop for two hours. Second, killer bees attack in groups. Four hundred bee stings can kill a person.

The development of radio, television, cinema, magazines and newspapers has gone hand in hand with the development of advertising. Why is advertising so popular? Is it a waste of money? It has been proved again an d again that ?repeated advertising increases product sales. Since it increases production, the price can be reduced. Therefore advertising, instead of making a product more expensive, makes it cheaper.

Advertising is now a scientific business. Once managers would say jokingly, " I know that half of what I spend on advertising is wasted, but I don't know which half." Now, all parts of an advertising programme are properly measured and researched.

What makes a good advertisement? There have been major changes in advertising in the past sixty years.. People read advertisements partly for information and partly for pleasure. Today's advertisements often start with a question, or a puzzle, with the purpose of attracting the reader's attention. Of course, most advertisements contain information. 14(河南省郑州市第47中学高一第一次月考)American hunger for cheese was reduced(减少)a bit when consumers (消费者) traveled and ate less following the year of 2001. Now their appetite (胃口) is back and they are eating more cheese than ever.

Most of the demand is being fed by household suppliers, and California’s mega-dairies (大制酪场) are growing so fast that experts expect the state to overtake Wisconsin in cheese production within two years. California is already the nation’s leading milk producer, and with the help of cheese makers like Hilmar Cheese Company—the largest in North America—the state has doubled its cheese production in the last ten years.

In 1995, California made 70 varieties of cheese. Now there are 250 types of cheese coming out of the state. One in every 10 pounds of cheese eaten is a higher-quality, value-added cheese. Ten years ago, only one in 15 pounds of cheese eaten was a specialty. Most of it is common cheese, but Americans are also eating much more cheese.

It is good news for California’s dairies (牛奶场). By pooling their resources, farmers could turn some of the high-protein, high-fat milk coming from their brown cows into cheese, a value-added product that would bring in a little extra cash. When they started the Hilmar Cheese Company in 1984, the 12 families together brought in 250,000 pounds of milk a day—a drop in a bucket for a company that now processes (加工) 10 million pounds of milk a day from more than 270 producers—about 10 percent of all the milk produced in California.

Cheese has great healthful value, and brings calcium (钙) back into diets. But it also makes food taste better, making it easier to eat too much. “It’s terrible that we’re eating more cheese, but bottom line, all calories count,”said Stern, who also suggests people should try to eat cheese in different ways, with pears or apple slices—expanding their diets.

47. The passage is written to tell us _______.

A. dairies are developing very fast

B. Americans eat more cheese than ever

C. how dairies are developing in America

D. cheese is developing towards more varieties

48. When the Hilmar Cheese Company was opened, it _______.

A. was the largest company producing cheese

B. made 70 varieties of cheese

C. was supplied with milk by 12 producers

D. was made up of 12 families then

49. The underlined word ―It‖ (in Paragraph 4) refers to the fact that ______.

A. Americans are eating more and more cheese

B. cheese has more varieties

C. cheese has great healthful value

D. Californ ia is the nation’s leading milk producer

50. In the opinion of Stern, ______.

A. the more we eat cheese, the better we’ll become

15、(河南省郑州市第47中学高一第一次月考)English is the most widely used language in the history of our planet. One in every seven human beings can speak it. More than half of the world’s books and three quarters of international mails are in English. Of all languages, English has the largest vocabulary — perhaps as many as two million words.

However, let’s face it: English is a crazy language. There is no egg in an eggplant, neither pine nor apple in a pineapple and no ham in a hamburger. Sweet-meats are candy, while sweetbreads, which aren’t sweet, are meat.

We take English for granted. But when we explore its paradoxes (探讨它的矛盾), we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square, public bathrooms have no baths in them.

And why is it that a writer writes, but fingers don’t fing, grocers don’t groce, and hammers don’t ham? If the plural (复数) of tooth is teeth, shouldn’t the plural of booth be beeth? One goose, two geese —so one moose, two meese?

How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites(相反)? How can overlook and oversee be opposites, while quite a lot and quite a few are alike? How can the weather be hot as hell one day and cold as hell the next?

English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects (反映) the creativity of human beings. That’s why, when stars are out, they are visible (能看见的); but when the lights are out, they are invisible. And why, when I wind up my watch, I start it; but when I wind up this essay, I end it.

51. According to the passage ______.

B. there should be egg in an eggplant

A. Beeth.

B. Geese.

C. Meese.

D. Tooth.

53. Which of the following includes two items which have the similar meaning?

A. A wise man and a wise guy.

B. Overlook and oversee.

C. Quite a lot and quite a few.

D. Hot as hell and cold as hell.

54. The underlined words ―wind up‖ in the last paragraph probably mean ―______‖.

A. blow

B. roll up

C. get hurt

16、(河南省郑州市盛同学校高一第一次月考)We find that bright children are rarely held back by mixed -ability teaching. On the contrary, both their knowledge and experience are enriched. We feel that there are many disadvantages in streaming (把……按能力分班)pupils. It does not take into account the fact that children develop at different rates. It can have a bad effect on both the bright and the not -so-bright children. After all, it can be quite discouraging to be at the bottom of the top grade!

Besides, it is rather unreal to grade people just according to their intellectual ability. This is only one aspect of their total personality. We are concerned to develop the abilities of all our pupils to the full, not just their academic ability. We also value personal qualities and social skills and we find that mixed-ability teaching contributes to all these aspects of learning.

In our classrooms, we work in various ways. The pupils often work in groups: this gives them the opportunity to learn to cooperate to share, and they develop leadership skills. They also learn how to deal with personal problems as well as learning how to think, to make decisions, to analyze and evaluate, and to communicate effectively. The pupils learn from each other as well as from the teacher.

Sometimes the pupils work in pairs; sometimes they work on individual tasks and assignments, and they can do this at their own speed. They also have some formal class teaching when this is proper. We encourage our pupils to use the library, and we teach them the skills they need in order to do this efficiently. An advanced pupil can do advanced work: it does not matter what age the child is. We expect our pupils to do their best, not their least, and we give them every encouragement to achieve this goal.

56. In the passage the writer’s attitude towards ―mixed-ability teaching‖ is ________.

A. critical.

B. questioning.

C. agreeable.

D. objective.

57. By ―held back‖ the writer means ―________.‖

A. made to remain in the same classes.

B. forced to study in the lower classes.

C. drawn to their studies.

D. prevented from advancing.

58. The writer argues that a teacher’s chief concern should be the development of the student’s _______.

A. personal qualities and social skills.

B. total personality.

C. learning ability and communicative skills.

D. intellectual ability.

59. Which of the following is not mentioned in the third paragraph?

A. Group work gives pupils the opportunity to learn to work together with others.

B. Pupils also learn to develop their reasoning abilities.

C. Group work provides pupils with the chance to learn to be capable organizers.

D. Pupils also learn how to take part in teaching activities.

60. The writer’s purpose in writing this passage is to _______.

A. argue for teaching bright and not-so-bright pupils in the same class.

B. recommend pair work and group work for classroom activities.

C. offer advice on the proper use of the library.

D. emphasize the importance of proper formal classroom teaching.

The producers ignored to carry out an environmental effect report and did not apply for permission to build roads and buildings around Bigu Lake in the southwestern province of Yunnan, the Beijing Youth Daily and other newspapers reported.

高一英语阅读理解试题(生态、环保类) 生态类 (1) A Wolf in Danger What is happening to the timber wolf today? Native Americans and early settlers often went to sleep to the sound of a lonely lullaby(催眠曲). It was the song of the wolf howling in a distant forest. There were many wolves then. One kind was the North American timber wolf. Wolves are important to the balance of nature because they eat sick and weak animals. In Colorado, people tried to help deer by shooting wolves. But then there were so many deer that many of them starved to death. The timber wolf is on the endangered special list. Animals on this list are in danger of disappearing from the earth. People drove the wolves away by cutting down the forests to build houses, towns, and highways. Timber wolves are now found only in Canada, Alaska, Michigan, and Minnesota. This special animal may soon disappear from our forests forever. Then, its lonely howl will never be heard again. 1. 高一英语阅读理解题20套(带答案) 一、高中英语阅读理解 1.阅读理解 Even a small increase in light activity such as washing dishes, or walking around the house might help prevent an early death among older adults, researchers say. "It is important for elderly people, who might not be able to do much moderate intensity(强度)activity, that just moving around and doing light intensity activity will have strong effects and is beneficial," said Ulf Ekelund, who led the research. Published in the BMJ, the latest research was based on a review of eight studies involving a total of more than 36,000 people with an average age of almost 63 years. Participants were followed for five to six years; 2,149 deaths were recorded. All of the studies involved monitoring the physical activity of individuals who had activity trackers, and the studies did not rely on self-reporting, which, the experts noted, could be unreliable. For each study participants were split into four equal-sized groups, based on the total amount of time spent actively, and the risk of death assessed, taking into account factors such as age, sex, body mass index, and socioeconomic status. This was then repeated for an amount of activity at different levels of intensity. The results were analyzed together to give an overview. The team found a greater amount of activity was linked to a lower risk of death. The results held for different intensities of activity. The team said the study supported the message "sit less and move more and more often". However, the study had limitations. It only looked at the situation for middle age and older adults, most of whom lived in the US or Europe, and some of the effect could be due to those people with a higher risk of death being less likely to be related to physical activity. Physical activity levels also were only measured over one period of time. Dr Gavin Sandercock, from the University of Essex, said the results suggested moving more brought bigger benefits than simply reducing the time of sitting, another factor measured in the study. "This study reinforces the important message that getting the least active people to do even just a little bit more physical activity can have important public health benefits," he said. (1)Which of the following may Ulf Ekelund suggest elderly people do? A.lying on the sofa reading. B.Doing a little gentle gardening. C.Going out to hike with friends. D.Playing basketball sometimes. (2)What can we know about the research? A.It lasted about 8 years. B.The researchers admitted they used fake data. C.The participants didn't include younger people. D.Some participants died because of doing too much physical activity (3)What is the author's attitude towards the researchers' conclusion? A.Doubtful

As he observed her and spoke with her, he admired her more and more. He showered her with kindness and words of praise until she consented to be his wife. Not long after they were married, however, the beautiful woman found out that she was more the object of his artistic interest than of his affections. The work will be my masterpiece!” She was humble and patient as well as flattered by his words, so she said, “Yes, my love. I will be happy to sit for you.” So the beautiful, young wife of the art ist sat meekly for hours in his studio, not complaining. Day after day she sat patiently, smiling as she posed, because she loved him and because she hoped that he would see her love in her smile and obedience. She sometimes wanted to call out to him, “Ple ase love me and want me as a person rather than as an object!” But instead, she spoke nothing but words which pleased him. At length, as the labor drew to close, the painter became wilder in his passion for his work. He only rarely turned his eyes from the canvas to look at his wife.
