安徽省共有 16所为省一级中学：

通过分析以上数据，基本可以看出：
（1）合肥市的高中教育已稳居安徽第一！合肥四大名校已基本成为安徽版本的“长沙四大名校”，并且，合肥四大名校的实力近乎也已成为安徽省前四了（从数据看，仅合肥六中略有争议，合肥其他三校稳居安徽前四）。芜湖整体来说，基础教育基本在安徽排在第2；阜阳应该是皖北第一。
（2）老牌省重点中学中，合肥一中基本是安徽高中第一无异议了；合肥168中学近年来是安徽高中教育的新星，从各项数据看（尤其省前100名人数和600分以上学生人数），基本是安徽第二；此外，六安一中、芜湖一中表现也很耀眼。另一方面，过去的地级巢湖市一中，随着巢湖市撤销，也完全颓废下去，甚至不如无为一中。。。而亳州一中、贵池中学、宿城一中、淮南二中等老牌省重点中学也差强人意。
（3）安徽省不少县中表现抢眼，是个可喜的现状！表现较好的县中包括无为中学、太和一中、太和中学、浮山中学。此外，南岭中学、庐江中学和桐城中学等也表现突出。尤其是无为中学，完全达到以上 4项指标（全省仅合肥一中（？）、168中学、芜湖一中、无为中学4项全部达标）。考虑到太和一中和太和中学招收了不少非太和籍学生，而无为中学仅在无为县招生，无为中学基本可认为是安徽省县中第一！
（4）太和县的高中教育在安徽省所有辖县中处于执牛耳的地位，甚至远超不少地级市区！另一方面，无为县的高中教育也十分强大！除无为中学外，无为一中的表现也很抢眼。。。在市级占据着大量资源，安徽省县域经济也比较落后的情况下，上述两县能取得这样的成绩，实属不易！
