IELTS Writing Sample Answer

1.In many countries schools have severe problems with student’s behaviour.

What are the causes?

What solutions can you suggest?

Poor student behaviour seems to be an increasingly widespread problem and I think that modern lifestyles are probably responsible for this.

In many countries, the birth rate is decreasing so that families are smaller with fewer children. These children are often spoilt, not in terms of love and attention because working parents do not have the time for this, but in more material ways. They are allowed to have whatever they want, regardless of price, and to behave as they please. This means that the children grow up without consideration for others and without any understanding of where their standard of living comes from.

When they get to school age they have not learnt any self control or discipline. They have less respect for their teachers and refuse to obey school rules in the way that their parents did.

Teachers continually complain about this problem and measures should be taken to combat the situation. But I think the solution to the problem lies with the families, who need to be more aware of the future consequences of spoiling their children. If they could raise them to be considerate of others and to be social, responsible individuals, the whole community would benefit.

Perhaps parenting classes are needed to help them to do this, and high quality nursery school s could be established that would support families more in terms of raising the next generation. The government should fund this kind of parental support, because this is no longer a problem for individual families, but for society as a whole.

2.

Some people think that it's better for children to go to boarding schools, while others think that they should go to day schools and stay with their parents.

Discuss these arguments and express your own opinion.

You should write at least 250 words.

You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments

with examples and relevant evidence.

There has been much disagreement over children's education in recent years. One of the questions under debate is whether children benefit more from boarding schools or from going to day schools

and staying with their parents after school. This issue is becoming a matter of concern for more and more people, especially for parents with only one child.

Those who are against children going to boarding schools argue that such schools are usually much more costly than ordinary day schools. As a result, it tends to be children from rich families who attend them may gradually develop a sense of superiority towards those from other families, while the latter may feel resentful. We also have to take into account the fact that many families cannot afford to send their children to boarding schools. Again, children attending boarding schools have less time to communicate with their parents, which may eventually create a gap between them, and weaken family ties.

On the other hand, people who are in favor of children going to boarding schools point out that a boarding school is an ideal place for cultivating children's independence, which they seldom learn from their parents at home. Children who have the experience of going to boarding schools tend to come up with their own solutions to problems they encounter instead of turning to their parents or other people for help. What is more, these children usually show a more cooperative attitude towards others in ca se of team work than the “little emperors” in many one child families. Finally, they are generally more used to competing with others and will find it easier to adapt to modern society, which is full of competition when they grow up.

Weighing the pros and cons of these arguments, I am inclined to agree with the latter point of view. For one thing, it seems to me that there is more to education than merely learning from teachers and textbooks. The experience of living with other children and taking care of themselves can give children valuable lessons about how to behave properly, how to overcome difficulties and, most important of all, how to think rationally. I believe that children sometimes learn more from other children than from adults. For another, many parents are too busy with their work to pay enough attention to their children's growth even if their children go to day schools, not to mention the fact that there are still some parents who are not qualified to instruct children and impose more negative influences than positive ones.

3.

孩子参与有薪水的工作,你的意见?

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

In many countries, children participate in some paid work in their spare time. Some people think this is wrong, but others believe that such work will extend the children's knowledge and increase their sense of responsibility.

Discuss both these views and give your opinion.

You should write at least 250 words.

You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.

Sample Answer

In many countries, these days, there is a growing tendency for children to take paid work, even though they are still receiving education in primary schools. Many people believe that children accumulate useful experience through this kind of work. But others criticize this on the ground that such work interferes with their studies.

The first point of view has a lot to recommend it. It is true that children, especially for those of school age, need to participate in some social activities. Work will help them to enlarge their scope of knowledge and accumulate a certain amount of social experience, which is a necessary supplement=addition to the knowledge they gain from school courses.

Also, taking part in work of a certain type can help to reinforce children's sense of responsibility. Children will have to be able to handle various unexpected situations in later life. It is beneficial for them to understand their duties in society while they are still at school.

As for the money earned from paid work, I am firmly convinced that it is not only useful but also necessary for children to earn extra money. They can decide whether to spend it or save it, thus learning the value of thrift (frugalness). But the most important point is that they earn this money through hard work, and this will help them understand the famous saying “no pains, no gains” better.

To sum up, I agree that school children should participate in a certain amount of paid work. Through such work, they can not only earn some extra money but also acquire the necessary knowledge and experience which will be especially useful when they enter society as grown-ups.

Sample Answer

It seems to me that there is a clear-cut answer to this question. Although in the early years of a child's life parents are the principal educators, that role is soon assumed very largely by the child's

teachers. Even elder brothers and sisters, who may give good advice, can never take the place of teachers in molding a child's mind.

First and foremost, teachers know best in terms of education. They are professional educators, and as such they are better equipped with expertise in teaching. It is in schools, too, that children make friends and learn how to act in a socially responsible manner. Teachers know best how to organize, motivate and discipline their students. Furthermore, as children spend most of their time in schools, teachers have more influence on them than their parents do.

Parents, on the other hand, are mostly either too busy to spend time with their children, or are ignorant of the right way to educate them. This is not to say that parents can shirk (refuse to take) their responsibility for educating their children. Parenting is an important factor that shapes competency and character formation in children. Failure to take such responsibility constitutes delinquency as parents.

Nevertheless, given the professional qualifications of teachers and the time they spend with their students, it is clear that the overwhelming burden of educating children falls upon the shoulders of teachers.

5Computers are widely used in education, and some people think teacher will not play an important role in the classroom. 。

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

With the present wide use of computers, in the course of teaching, more and more teachers are in favour of using computers as an aid in teaching their students or in appropriating the latest information from the Internet. However, I am not a believer in the argument that computers may in the future take the place of teachers in teaching students.

Firstly, the creators of any education program and software need to be teachers or workers in the education system, or programmers who have previously worked in education. Therefore, although students may learn knowledge by computer, the skills and ideas ultimately emanate from/derive from the teaching staff.

Secondly, while the computer may offer a correct answer or explanation to students, the comprehension capability of every student varies from student to student, making it is impossible for the computer to offer an explanation ca tered to a student’s particular level of understanding. However, the teacher is able to undertake this task, as he or she possesses expertise in teaching. For example, when a teacher discovers that many students cannot understand professional knowledge, he or she may offer explanatory examples. The computer, however, may only analyze a question in terms of a simple right or wrong response.

Finally, the teachers are invariably responsible for carrying a dual role. Most teachers act as not only an educator, but also a kind of father or mother-figure in taking care of students in school. The teacher is able to assist parents in solving a child’s mental problems other than imparting daily knowledge. The computer, which is purely an electronic device, cannot hope to assist in this regard.

In summary, the computer may not play a major role in education in comparison to the benefits of a teacher bestows. However, it is critical that teachers improve their old teaching modes by using computers at some level of educational teaching.

Many people believe that women make better parents than men and that this is why they have the greater role in raising children in most societies. Others claim that men are just as good as women at parenting.

Write an essay expressing your point of view.

Give reasons for your answer.

The view that women are better parents than men has shown itself to be true throughout history. This is not to say that men are of little or no importance in childrearing; indeed, they are most necessary if children are to appreciate fully the roles of both sexes. But women have proven themselves superior parents as a result of their conditioning, their less aggressive natures and their generally better communication skills.

From the time they are little girls, females learn about nurturing. First with dolls and later perhaps with younger brothers and sisters, girls are given the role of career. Girls see their mothers in the same roles and so it is natural that they identify this as a female activity. Boys, in contrast, learn competitive roles far removed from what it means to nurture. While boys may dream of adventures, girls' conditioning means they tend to see the future in terms of raising families.

Girls also appear to be less aggressive than boys.,[这有个“到了成年”] it is men, not women, who prove to be the aggressors in crime and in war. Obviously, in raising children, a more patient, gentle manner is preferable to a more aggressive one. Although there certainly exists gentle men and aggressive women, by and large, females are less likely to resort to violence in attempting to solve problems.

Finally, women tend to be better communicators than men. This is shown in intelligence tests, where females, on average, do better in verbal communication than males. Of course,

communication is of utmost importance in rearing children, as children tend to learn from and adopt the communication styles of their parents.

2019年雅思考试巩固模拟试题及答案1 Next Year Marks the EU's 50th Anniversary of the Treaty A. After a period of introversion and stunned self-disbelief, continental European governments will recover their enthusiasm for pan-European institution-building in 2007. Whether the European public will welcome a return to what voters in two countries had rejected so short a time before is another matter. B. There are several reasons for Europe’s recovering self-confidence. For years European economies had been lagging dismally behind America (to say nothing of Asia), but in 2006 the large continental economies had one of their best years for a decade, briefly outstripping America in terms of growth. Since politics often reacts to economic change with a lag, 2006’s improv ement in economic growth will have its impact in 2007, though the recovery may be ebbing by then. C. The coming year also marks a particular point in a political cycle so regular that it almost seems to amount to a natural law. Every four or five years, European countries take a large stride towards further integration by signing a new treaty: the Maastricht treaty in 1992, the Treaty of Amsterdam in 1997, the Treaty of Nice in 2001. And in 2005 they were supposed to ratify a European constitution, laying the ground for yet more integration—until the calm rhythm

一、外显连接 如:it is undeniable that mobile phones have facilitated our lives in many different ways. For example, when an emergency ours, such as a traffic aident or a violent crime, mobile phones can help the victims to call the police or an ambulance immediately for help. 本例中,for example 引出例子论证“mobile phones have facilitated our lives in many different ways.”而后面的such as 则引出emergency 的具体形式。For instance 与它的用法完全相同,即后面要接句子例证。 Like, such as, take…as 等

直接名词(或相当于名词的词)。由于这些都是基本常识,这里不再赘述。 为了使连接词多样化,建议考生运用下面的一些短语(或句式)连接论点和论据:…is a case in point; …serve as a typical example;…can be taken as an example; one example is that… another one is that等。 如:Working part time when you are studying in university is beneficial to your life. I myself is a case in point(or ‘my experiences serve as a typical example’). Through those experiences, I have learned to be independent and responsible.

Some people prefer to provide help and support directly to those in their local community who need it. Others, however prefer to give money to national and international charitable organizations. Discuss both views and give your opinion. 有人认为给需要救助的人自己的帮助更加可取,有人认为给有需求的国家或国际援助组织提供经济援助更加重要,讨论两种观点,给出你的意见。 Although people in industrialized countries lead a high standard of living, it is undeniable that there are still 1.2 billion people living below the poverty line. In order to solve poverty-related problems, I feel that all kinds of help should be encouraged and respected. Giving a helping hand to those who are in need in the local community seems reasonable. It is because even in the richest countries, there are still a lot of people, such as disabled people and orphanages, suffering from famine and extreme poverty. For this reason, it is easy and convenient for us to help our fellow citizens, such as donating food or clothing to them, so that we can see the result of our actions immediately. By contrast, it is rather difficult to track expenditure of international aids, which might result in corruption in some cases. Those who donate money to domestic and international charities believe that the collection of money has a tremendous effect on the poor countries compared with other forms of help. This is because few people are able to donate a large amount of money to construct schools, hospitals and roads in poor areas. Instead, governments and charities can achieve this. International aids can also purchase vaccines which are available in developed countries by using the money raised worldwide and save millions children’s life. In my view, minor proportion of donated money and other sorts of help should be appreciated equally as long as the money reaches to those who need it desperately. The government could run campaign and encourage door-to door help. At the same time, charitable organizations should make every penny count for donors.(word count:274)

2015年雅思阅读模拟试题及答案解析三

Time to cool it 1 REFRIGERATORS are the epitome of clunky technology: solid, reliable and just a little bit dull. They have not changed much over the past century, but then they have not needed to. They are based on a robust and effective idea--draw heat from the thing you want to cool by evaporating a liquid next to it, and then dump that heat by pumping the vapour elsewhere and condensing it. This method of pumping heat from one place to another served mankind well when refrigerators' main jobs were preserving food and, as air conditioners, cooling buildings. Today's high-tech world, however, demands high-tech refrigeration. Heat pumps are no longer up to the job. The search is on for something to replace them. 2 One set of candidates are known as paraelectric materials. These act like batteries when they undergo a temperature change: attach electrodes to them and they generate a current. This effect is used in infra-red cameras. An array of tiny pieces of paraelectric material can sense the heat radiated by, for example, a person, and the pattern of the array's electrical outputs can then be used to construct an image. But until recently no one had bothered much with the inverse of this process. That inverse exists, however. Apply an appropriate current to a paraelectric material and it will cool down. 3 Someone who is looking at this inverse effect is Alex Mischenko, of Cambridge University. Using commercially available paraelectric film, he and his colleagues have generated temperature drops five times bigger than any previously recorded. That may be enough to change the phenomenon from a laboratory curiosity to something with commercial applications. 4 As to what those applications might be, Dr Mischenko is still a little hazy. He has, nevertheless, set up a company to pursue them. He foresees putting his discovery to use in more efficient domestic fridges and air conditioners. The real money, though, may be in cooling computers. 5 Gadgets containing microprocessors have been getting hotter for a long time. One consequence of Moore's Law, which describes the doubling of the number of transistors on a chip every 18 months, is that the amount of heat produced doubles as well. In fact, it more than doubles, because besides increasing in number, the components are getting faster. Heat is released every time a logical operation is performed inside a microprocessor, so the faster the processor is, the more heat it generates. Doubling the frequency quadruples the heat output. And the frequency has doubled a lot. The first Pentium chips sold by Dr Moore's company,Intel, in 1993, ran at 60m cycles a second. The Pentium 4--the last "single-core" desktop processor--clocked up 3.2 billion cycles a second. 6 Disposing of this heat is a big obstruction to further miniaturisation and higher speeds. The innards of a desktop computer commonly hit 80℃. At 85℃, they

As to whether they affect children negatively, there is an endless debate. Despite the fact that playing computer games is an effective way to relieve pressure, the problems associated with study and health cannot be neglected. Clearly, playing computer games is regarded as a main factor leading to poor academic performance. With the entertaining nature, computer games will easily distract children from their studious pursuits. With the passage of time, children will probably fall behind their peers in academic development. In addition, when children spend too much time playing computer games, they are less likely to participate in physical activities, which is one reason why many children suffer from obesity. As a result, these overweight children’s confidence may be undermined and their health may be negatively influence as well. Despite these disadvantages, the advantages can still not be ignored. First of all, the latest research shows that game-playing helps children to home their communication and interpersonal skills. In many cases, players work together in teams to achieve goals, competing against other players. Therefore, their social skills and teamwork spirit are put to the test. Also, computer games can have positive and therapeutic effects on players. Games provide an opportunity for children to decompress and tune out of strains and stresses of everyday life. Giving their time to rest is critical for emotional and mental well-being. In conclusion, it is not advisable for children to play computer games, for the reasons that it not only has a negative impact on their study, but also makes them lose confidence, although computer games provide a form of relaxation.

2019雅思阅读考试真题(19)

2019年雅思IELTS考试备考资料模拟试题及答案14 The nervous system of vertebrates is characterized by a hollow, dorsal nerve cord that ends in the head region as an enlargement, the brain. Even in its most primitive form this cord and its attached nerves are the result of evolutionary specialization, and their further evolution from lower to higher vertebrate classes is a process that is far from fully understood. Nevertheless, the basic arrangements are similar in all vertebrates, and the study of lower animals gives insight into the form and structure of the nervous system of higher animals. Moreover, for any species, the study of the embryological development of the nervous system is indispensable for an understanding of adult morphology. In any vertebrate two chief parts of the nervous system may be distinguished. These are the central nervous system (the nerve cord mentions above), consisting of the brain and spinal cord, and the peripheral nervous system, consisting of the cranial, spinal, and peripheral nerves, together with their motor and sensory endings. The term "autonomic nervous system" refers to the parts of the central and peripheral systems that supply and regulate the activity of cardiac muscle, smooth muscle, and many glands. The nervous system is composed of many millions of nerve and glial cells, together with blood vessels and a small amount of connective tissue. The nerve cells, or "neurons", are characterized by many processes and are specialized in that they exhibit to a great degree the phenomena of irritability and conductivity. The glial cells of the central nervous system are supporting cells collectively termed

Why do you think people attend college or university? Model Answer 1: People attend college for a lot of different reasons. I believe that the three most common reasons are to prepare for a career, to have new experiences, and to increase their knowledge of themselves and of the world around them. Career preparation is probably the primary reason that people attend college. These days, the job market is very competitive. Careers such as information technology will need many new workers in the near future. At college, students can learn new skills for these careers and increase their opportunities for the future. Students also go to college to have new experiences. For many, it is their first time away from home. At college, they can meet new people from many different places.
