Confidence is very important in daily life. It can help you develop a healthy attitude(态度). A study shows that people who are more confident are much happier. They may have more chances to become successful. But how can we be more confident? Here are some suggestions: Speak louder. When you are not confident, it's hard to do what you want to do well. You speak in a voice so low that other people can hardly hear you. Try to speak loud enough so people can hear you clearly. Your voice can help you become more confident.

Play sports. Physical exercise makes you tired but completely relaxed. A strong body helps you be full of confidence.

Encourage yourself. Write down a list of things you did during the day to see how many things you did well. Did you finish your homework? Did you tell a joke that made everybody laugh? Give yourself praise for the good things you've done.

Get rid of(消除)fear. Fear goes along with failure. But it's easy to overcome(克服)if you understand that failure is part of life. Don't hide in your head just because you said something stupid once. Try to start again and believe you can do better.

Pick up a hobby. If you like singing, sing as much as you can. In some ways, a hobby can make you excellent. And it will make you happy and confident.

53. How many suggestions does the article talk about?

54. What's the best title(标题)for the article?

55. What do you often do to be more confident? And why?

【2016上海市杨浦区三模】D. Answer the questions(根据短文内容回答下列问题): ( 12分)

As soon as people realize that my brother Michael, my sister Tiffany and I

were born on the same day, that we’re triplets, they ask the strangest questions.

But no, we can’t read each other’s minds. We don’t have the same dreams. And

I can promise you that we don’t always get along. These are the things I get

asked most often when people meet me for the first time.

Although there are lots of good things about being a triplet, one thing I really don’t like is when people think of us as one person - ‘MichaelDesireeTiffany’ instead of ‘Michael’ and ‘Desiree’ and ‘Tiffany’. I don’t like it when people think we should act or think the same just because we were born at the same time, like when people ask me why I’m so sh y while Michael and Tiffany are so much louder. And I definitely don’t like it when people don’t understand that we have individual (个人的) choices of what to do in our spare time.

Growing up, Tiffany, Michael and I shared almost everything. It was funny how the exact moment I wanted to use the bike was the same time that Tiffany felt like going for a ride. When the three of us learned to drive at the same time, we very often fought over who got to practise with the

car.

My dad came up with a brilliant plan c alled ‘turns’. One Sunday a month, each of us would have a chance to spend three hours with our dad, alone, and do whatever we wanted. For three hours every month each of us was allowed to feel like he/she was an only child. This helped me to see that bein g a triplet is a part of me, but it isn’t the only part of me. I don’t just want to be thought of as ‘Desiree, the girl who’s a triplet’. I want to be thought of as an individual.

88. Is Desiree the only girl of the triplets?

89. What question might people ask the triplets when they first meet them? Give one example.

90. How did they decide who practised with the car first?

91. How often could each of the triplets have the “alone time” with their father?

92. In what ways are the triplets different? (List 2)

They have different __________ and __________.

93.What are the bad thing s about being a triplet?

88. No, she is n’t.

89. Can you read each other’s minds?/Do you have the same dreams?/Do you always get along?

90. They fought over the chance to practise with the car./They took turns to practise with the car.

91. Once a month.

92. Possible answers: personalities/characters, hobbies/interest.

93. Possible answers: Sometimes you can only have one-third of parents’ attention./ People lack

understanding of triplets and always ask strange questions./ People don’t think of you as an individual./Triplets don't always get along./Having a triplet is like having a shadow that will never leave you alone./You’ll always be compared to your siblings (brothers or sisters)./You’ll always have to compete against ‘others’./You can hardly have your own things.

【2016上海市徐汇区二模】 D. Answer the questions (根据短文内容回答问题):(12分)Venus (金星)has long been one of the most misunderstood planets. Like the earth, Venus has its own atmosphere. However, the atmosphere is much thicker than that of the earth, which makes it difficult for modern scientists to study. There is much we still do not know

about what this planet like. However, using special machines, scientists have

unlocked many of the long-hidden secrets in recent years.

Venus is in many ways the earth’s sister planet. It is almost the same in size and

chemistry as the earth. In other words, Venus is made up of almost the exact same

types of materials as the earth, in about t he same amounts.

In the early days of Venus’ 4-billion-year-old life, it would have appeared very similar to the earth. The two would have been almost the same. However, over a period of a few million years ago, Venus lies much closer to the sun than our planet. It has made Venus terribly hot.

Since it is closer to the sun, Venus’ temperature should be a little warmer than that of the earth. As the planet warmed, water which can be used to form oceans, lakes and rivers, evaporated(蒸发). This increase in water vapor(水蒸气)began a cycle of global warming. Water vapor is a very effective greenhouse gas. It caused the temperature to rise and more water to evaporate. The temperature then climbed still further. Today it is likely that all of Venus’s water has evaporated into the atmosphere. This atmosphere effectively keeps the sun’s energy and makes the surface to burn much hotter than it naturally would.

If you happen to find a way to survive the extreme heat on the surface of Venus, you will

quickly notice something strange about the days. Venus rotates(旋转) very slowly, so that a day on Venus actually lasts longer than a year. Instead of the sun rising in the east and setting in the west, the sun would appear to rise in the west and set in the east when you are on Venus.

【2016上海市浦东新区二模】D. Answer the questions (根据短文内容回答问题) (12分) Scott Kelly, an American astronaut, returned to earth on March 2, 2016. He was taller by nearly 1.5 inches (3.81 cm) when he landed on Earth after his 340-day space mission on the International Space Station (ISS).

His change in height, which lasted about two days, raised the question: What are the effects of a long-term stay in space?

As you probably know, there is no gravity in space. This not only causes difficulties in everyday actions like eating, walking and sleeping, but also problems for the human body.

The first problem is the air. Without gravity, carbon dioxide cannot spread during breathing, but gathers around the body and causes headaches. More than that, human feelings of movement are affected, which could make people feel sick.

The body’s fluids(液体) don’t work well in weightlessness, making blood flow upward instead of down to the lower legs, and astronauts’ faces become fatter than normal. Gaps between bones also become larger because humans cannot stand up straight. The spine(脊柱) can also get

bigger in zero gravity.

In addition, human bodies become weaker because of the lack of gravity and space to move around in. Some astronauts said that after they returned, their muscles hurt and their skin became very sensitive(敏感的). Kelly said during his first press conference, “It was almost like my body was on fire wherever I sat or lay or walked.”

However, the research into the effects of long-term space flight on human bodies and minds never stops. There are many actions that astronauts can take in space. They can take vitamin D for bone growth, wear special belts on their legs to keep blood in their lower bodies and do strength coaches’ exercises. The fans in the ISS also help spread carbon dioxide around. “We will do further research.” NASA Administrator Charles Bolden said, “I believe it will be meaningful to human-being.”

88. Something occured to Kelly’s body when he finished his space mission, didn’t it?

89. People may _____________, if carbon dioxide cannot spread during breathing.

90. What will happen to astronauts’ faces in space?

91. Why did Kelly feel burned when he was sleeping according to the text?

92. What can astronauts do to keep fit in space?

Politeness(礼貌) is a mark of civilization. The sooner children learn this, the better. In any case, a lot can be completed by a smile and good manners.

Like it or not, our adult lives will be consumed(消费,消耗) by the struggle for money, but we don’t make an effort to teach children how to manage it. So our schools have a duty to teach them this ability from the beginning.

If we agree that the use of education is to prepare us for life, then there is very little time to waste. So, while we can, we ought to try our best to teach children something really useful. Here is what our schools should teach.

We’re likely to accept something we are told, but that’s not what educated peopl e do. Educated people are reasonable (理性的)and they look at facts. If our schools teach nothing else, they should at least teach critical(批判性的)thinking.

Children should learn to take care of their health. They should know that if they eat junk food(垃圾食品), they will become fat and unhealthy. They should be very clear about what happens to their bodies when they drink or smoke.

All of us are part of society. We have rights and duties. We ought to understand what they are. We have to know a little bit of our history and geography, because we need to have an environment in which to connect to the people around us.

How will we test students on these? We can’t. But that’s not a reason to avoid teaching what is important. Our schools should spend every moment they have telling this to our children: “This

Many people in England are angry that drivers park their cars on the pavements(人行道). Cars that are on the pavement block(堵) people from walking safely down the street. They have to walk into the road to get around the cars.

The charity for the blind, Guide Dogs, said blocking the pavement is “inconsiderate and dangerous”. It says it’s a lot more difficult for b lind people to walk around the town if cars are in their way. 【2016江苏扬州市直二模】Although many Chinese students say that their knowledge of English grammar is good, most would admit that their spoken English is poor. Whenever I speak to Chinese students they always say, “My spoken English’s poor”. However, their spoken En glish doesn’t have to remain“poor”. I would like to suggest that there may be some reasons for their problems with spoken English.

First, they fail to find suitable words to express themselves due to a limited vocabulary. Obviously the better answer is to expand their vocabulary. However, you can speak with a limited vocabulary, if your attitude is positive. Others will follow you as long as you use the words that you know. Second, they are afraid of making mistakes. Sometimes they make mistakes when they are speaking, because they are shy and nervous. Yet students should remember that their goal should be fluency(流利性)not accuracy(准确性). Your aim in writing is to be accurate following the rules for grammar and using tenses to get your message across. But to talk to someone in English, as quickly and well as you can, even though sometimes you may use a wrong word of tense, but it doesn’t matter because the person you are speaking to will understand you. The third reason is that not enough attention is paid to listening. you have one mouth but two ears! All that hearing is necessary for you to start speaking. Fourth, most Chinese students are inactive rather than pro-active language learners. Instead of actively seeking out opportunities to improve their spoken English, they passively wait for speaking opportunities to come to them and wonder why their English always remains poor. If you have this pro-active outlook(前景), then, you will see English opportunities wherever you go.

If you don’t use your English be yond the classroom you will forget that English you know.

Yangzhou is a cultural city. It has a long history of about 2,500 years since King Fu Chai of Wu dug Hangou and built Hancheng. There were three golden times in the history of Yangzhou. It took shape in the Han Dynasty, developed in the Tang Dynasty and reached its top in the Qing

Dynasty.

A number of politicians, writers and artists such as Li Bai, Du Fu of the Tang Dynasty and Ouyang Xiu and Su Dongpo of the Song Dynasty all served as officials or went sightseeing there and left many poems describing the beauty of Yangzhou. Li Bai once sailed down the Yangtze River in the spring toward Yangzhou to see off his friend, and wrote a wildly loved poem. Another poet, Xu Ning, praised Yangzhou in his poem for its ‘two thirds of the natural beauty under heaven’. Du Mu’s verse ‘The Twenty -four Bridges are shrouded in the bright moonlight’ made the Twenty-four Bridge known to both Chinese and foreign tourists. ‘Eight eccentrics of Yangzhou’ enjoy special qualities in their works of art. In history, Yangzhou was a famous and open city. In the Tang dynasty, it is the biggest city in Southeast China. Over 10 thousand foreign businessmen lived in Yangzhou then. Master Jianzhen from the Daming Temple in Yangzhou, went eastward to Japan to spread China’s culture. When the monk passed away, his disciples made a sculpture of him which has been preserved by Japan as a State treasure. Marco Polo, the well-known Italian traveler, once stayed in the city. His Travels of Marco Polo gives lots of descriptions of Yangzhou.

So I spent a lot of time at the airports, while waiting for my flights, I watch people passing by and start my imagination. For example, the other day when I was waiting for my flight to Greece, I saw a couple, they were buying magazines at that moment, they were not wearing business clothes, but the man was carrying a suitcase, every few seconds, the women looked around, I wondered someone was following them. Perhaps they were running away and, you know, ( reminded, of, me , a story, in the newspaper , that day , This) : a banker stole one million ponds a week before and disappeared with his wife, there was a picture of them in the paper, the couple really looked like the thieves, maybe I should stop them. Just then, I saw them say goodbye to each other. And the woman walked away. Oh, they are not the thieves, she came to see her husband off. Well, sometimes I make mistakes like that, but I find things like that very useful for my writing.”

A teacher was giving a talk to his students on how to deal with stress. He raised a glass of water and asked the students, “How heavy do you think this glass of water is?”

All the students tried to answer the question, and their answers were from 20g to 500g.

“It does not matter on the total weight. It depends on how long you hold it. If I hold it for a minute, it is OK. If I hold it for an hour, I will have an ache in my right arm. If I hold it for a day, you will have to call an ambulance(救护车). It is the exactly same weight, but it seems to become heavier and heavier as time passes by.”

“If we carry our burdens(负担) all the time, sooner or later, we will not be able to carry on, because the burden is becoming increasingly heavier.”

Brett let me try his bike. I wasn’t on for one minute before I fell off. He

came over to see if I was OK, but then started laughing.

That night I told my dad the whole story about how I wanted to be as good as boys. A few days later my dad told me he had found a nice bike. He

brought it home and that was when I became the laughing stock (笑柄) of the neighborhood. All

the boys thought it was a joke that I actually wanted to learn how to ride.

My dad spent four long weeks teaching me everything I needed to know about the bike and the basics of riding. Day after day and night after night he worked with me, and I began to progress.

Each ride on my dirt bike, I got a little better, and finally I was ready for my first time on a trip with some boys. At first I couldn’t keep up and the boys had to wait for me. My bike often got stuck in the muddy creeks.

Every time I came back, I would cry, and every time I cried my dad was there to put his arms around me. He would tell me not to listen to them and that with more practice, I would be as good as others or better than them.

Things eventually got easier, as if I could ride with my eyes closed. I am still made fun of, not because I’m an amateur (技术不熟练的人) or not good, but because they felt threatened that a girl can do what they did.
