1引言

礼貌原则广泛使用在人们的各种社会活动和社会生活中,礼貌在不同文化背景中也有不同的含义,因此学者们研究特定的语用运用来满足各种不同文化中的礼貌原则。对于礼貌的定义,不同的学者也有不同的研究。最早Grice提出合作原则,这是语用学上的一个突破,他把合作原则分为四个原则,即数量原则、质量原则、相关原则、方式原则。在Grice的合作原则的基础上,Leech提出了礼貌原则,包括六个准则,策略准则(tactmaxim):尽量使他人不受损,尽量使他人受益;宽容准则(generositymaxim):尽量使自己受益最小;表扬准则(approbationmaxim):最小限度地批评他人,最大限度地表扬他人;谦虚准则(modestymaxim):尽量不表扬自己,尽量不批评他人;同意准则(agreementmaxim):在自己和他人之间尽量减少异议,最少地表扬自己;同情准则(sympathymaxim):尽量减少自己对他人的讨厌,夸大对他人的同情。在这六个准则中策略准则是最重要的。

商业信函是商业活动中的一个重要的交流方式,在国际商业活动中,英文商务信函更是主要的交流方式,根据内容有建立贸易关系函、询盘信函、回复询盘信函、索赔信函等。礼貌原则是英文商务信函中有效的交流原则,能保证有效地进行交流和建立良好的商业关系。商务信函的写信人通常都有特定的目标,为了完成目标,写信者必须用礼貌的语言表达自己的要求,希望对方能够接受。如果写信人的语言不礼貌,或者咄咄逼人,通常会引起对方的反感,从而导致交流失败。因此,礼貌原则在英文商务信函中是非常重要的。

2.1词汇

词汇是一封信函的“砖瓦”,是最基础的结构。有些词汇在商务信函中能表达出礼貌,而有些词汇则表达出不礼貌,所以在商务信函中,为了礼貌原则,尽量使用能表达礼貌原则的词汇,比如please,thank,appreciate,lookforwardto,hope等。
