Studying in the US has been an eye—opening experience. In China,I had English classes five times a week since I entered high schoo1.However,I didn’t realize how different textb ook English could be from everyday English until I came to Robert Morris University,Pennsylvania.

When I first studied English,1 was told not to say,“I am good”,but “I am fine” when people say “How are you?”But in the US,1 found that people say,“I am go od.”

One day someone greeted me with “What’s up?”1 was at a loss ,thought for a moment and decided to smile before 1 walked away.

Since then I discovered more and more differences between Chinese and US culture.

As strange as it may sound,US girls spend plenty of time in the burning sun getting a tan(晒黑).However,in China, girls try every possible way to get their skin paler,or “whiter”.

I was also surprised by how hardworking, well—rounded and stressed US students are.

In China, schoolwork is everything,so we study hard and that’s it.But here,a “good’’ student gets good grades, does a lot for the community and plays soccer or music.

The kids here are so smart.I am starting to be sorry I gave up playing musical instruments at an early age and never thought about sports.

26.When he began to study in the US,the writer realized .

A.the English in China’s textbooks was quite different from the English in daily life

B.Chinese students were more stressed than American students

C.Chinese students had more out—of—class activities than American students

29.What did the writer regret?

B.He spent too much time studying for the tests.

D.He didn h work for the community.

A friend of mine, who just started his career as a teacher in a primary school, asked me to raise a topic for his mid--term composition (作文) test.I asked him why and he told me that he wanted the students to show their different ideas.Without thinking,I told him to let his gtudents write about what they would do if they were given one million US dollars.

A few days ago,my friend sent me an e--mail of all the copies of his students ’compositions.I have to say,I was sadly disappointed.

Among those papers 40%said that they wanted to give the money to poor people,so their children can go to schoo1.The rest compositions are much more alike. Some wanted to support the panda protection project, and some wanted to buy books to build up their knowledge.

We all have been kids, and we knew what we had once wanted. But,there was no composition about spending the money on video games, nice clothes;ice—creams and expensive toys.Students won’t tell the truth of their hearts.

It has always been ou r dream to open our children’s hearts. We encourage them to describe their dreams and acted as if we are ready to accept their thoughts. But the fact is that, children are afraid of

the zero marked on their papers. They are trained to say what we want to hear.

People compare children to flowers of tomorrow. And parents dream about the scenery that roses, tulips, daffodils grow healthily in the future. But down the road we are going on,in the future,or the future of future, only one kind of flower can be found. And that’s the flower we like most.41.The teacher of Chinese asked her friend to raise a topic because .
