Jumping across cities
Forget about expensive gyms, the new sport in cities is ree-running. Since it started in a Paris suburb around 1995, free-running has attracted lots of fans in cities around the world. The Future Body Network
Are you tired of wires that spread all over your desk and make your tea pour onto your keyboard? If so, you may consider using devices（设备）that use technologies like Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Neither of them sends information through wires. It sounds perfect, doesn’t it? But this is not the end of the story.
Scientists are now trying to use the human body to do a similar job. They have come up with the idea of sending information over the small electric field on the surface of the skin. To do this, a transmitter（传送器）could be built into your pocket or a portable device like an MP3 player. This transmitter would then use your skin’s electrical field to send information to a receiving device. Since this kind of transmission can only go as far as 20cm, the receiver would have to be close to some part of your body.
By using this body network, you wouldn’t need a wire to link your MP3 player in your pocket to the
headphones in your ears, or to send to your computer the pictures from a digital camera hanging around your neck. Moreover, you can exchange electronic cards or share music files with others by shaking hands, dancing cheek（脸颊）to cheek, or kissing each other.
Now, here comes a question. Why would anyone want to use their body as a network when Wi-Fi and Bluetooth already exist? The answer lies in the fact that with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, it is hard to limit the signals only to your own use. In a busy place, you can never know who might steal your information. However, body networking is safer. It is hard for other people to pick up signals sent over the surface of your skin since this body network only has a limit of 20cm from your body. Thus, no one else can easily pick up and interpret your signals.
Moreover, the most important use of body networking in the future may well be communication within the body rather than just on its surface. Imagine having a number of small devices implanted under your skin and using them to control your own nervous system. In other words, imagine that you have a powerful in-body computer. Airport Delays on the Rise
Delays cause extreme anger among travelers, and cost the country billions in lost productivity.
An FAA study listed eleven major problems and suggested eleven solutions. All problems are in air traffic control. The various regions（地区）don’t talk to each other enough. Each region operates differently and the number of planes in so-called regional traffic is increasing.
In the first of eleven solutions, an FAA national center will take control from the regions during heavy traffic or bad weather.
Jane Garvey of the FAA says, “The purpose of the command（指挥）center is to really make those decisions that affect the system in total.” Also, the FAA promises publicly again to upgrade its computers.
Michael Barr is a safety expert at the University of Southern California, “We’ve got fares that are reduced. More people want to fly and we are actually filling the air of the United States with air traffic.”
An example of this is that the San Francisco International Airport is growing fast as a world-wide gateway and as a center to an expanded（扩展的）regional service.
Ron Wilson of the San Francisco International Airport says, “If we’ve got 16, 17, 18 aircraft, departing at 8 a.m., the guy that is on the 18th plane is going to be 40 minutes late.”
Jane Garvey says, “It’s important to note that flying is more popular. It’s becoming a form of public transportation for a number of people. That’s having an effect on the delay numbers as well.”
Weather causes about 70% of delays. Then the FAA moves planes farther apart from five miles to as much as 20 miles. The new rule may reduce that to 10 miles. But if the sky is already crowded, where do those planes go?
A traveler says, “Naturally, I think the more space between planes, the safer for travelers.”
The FAA calls it an improvement, not a final solution. The public say the major problems remain: too many planes, too few controllers and too little modernization.
