1. confront: vt.

1) be faced with and have to deal with

e.g. The actress was confronted by a large group of reporters as she left the stage door.

8.through : prep.

9.stare: vi.

(1) look steadily for a long time, e.g. in great surprise or shock e.g. The child stared the stranger up and down.

10. pick: vt. vi.

1) take what one likes or considers best, or most suitable from a group

3) take up or remove sth. separately or bit by bit using the fingers, a beak, a pointed instrument, etc.

11.hoarse adj. (of a voice) rough-sounding, e.g. when the speaker has a sore throat

e.g. You'll make yourself hoarse if you keep shouting like that! Comparison:husky, harsh, thick

husky: (of a person's voice) low and rough, often in an attractive way, or because of illness

thick: not as clear or high as usual, for example because someone has been crying e.g. Bill's voice was thick and gruff.

12.evil1) n. a great wickedness or misfortune e.g. Drug-addiction is one of today's great social evils.

2) adj. immoral, cruel, or very unpleasant e.g. It's a battle against the country's most evil terrorists.

13.tiny adj. extremely small; very small e.g. Though she was tiny, she had a very loud voice.

13.part vt. (to cause to) separate or be no longer together

e.g. To be parted from him even for only two days made her sad.

14.bring back 1) cause to return e.g. All library books must be brought back before the end of the term.

2) obtain and return with e.g. He always brings me back something nice when he goes abroad.

3) cause to return to the mind e.g. The photos brought back some wonderful memories.

4) start to do or use something that was done or used in the past

e.g. Few politicians are in favour of bringing back the death penalty.

英语专业考研:英语综合题型盘点及备考指导 “综合英语”其实正确的名称叫做“英语综合”,是一个比较复杂的概念,是针对“基础英语”概念而提出。如果说基础英语考查学生对读写译基础和词汇表达的掌握,那么“英语综合”就是对英语下设的具体方向知识的考查。英语综合类具体方向比较多,包括文学、语言学、文化、教育等等,其中以英美文学、语言学和翻译理论与实践最多。 1.About专业 英语语言文学的专业代号是050201,一般下设的具体方向为英美文学。部分综合类大学的“英语语言文学”方向包括翻译理论与实践,也有的大学的这一专业包含了语言学方向。外国语大学类的方向更多,包括教学法、XX英语国家研究、跨文化交际等等。对外经贸的一大特色是商务英语。传媒大学有两大特色:一是影视翻译,二是英语播音。 有的学校单独把语言学抽出来单独作为一个方向,并赋予一个为050211的代号,所属的二级学科是“外国语言学及应用语言学”,简称是我们老百姓所说的“语言学”。这个学科下面的方向包括应用语言学、理论语言学、外语教育等等。北京外国语大学还包括X英汉同声传译,但这个我觉得是个“语言学”里面的例外,毕竟人家属于高翻学院,真正的方向是“翻译理论与实践”。从名称上来看,这个专业不限于英语专业报考,其他语种专业的学生也可以报考的,比如说上!外! 而对于“翻译学”(一般为0502Z1),也不能说是最偏门的方向,只不过单独把它作为一个方向的学校比较少 2.About科目代号 无论是“英语语言文学”还是“外国语言学及应用语言学”,抑或是“翻译学”,除了“基础英语”这门课之外,另外一门基本考查考生的专业知识。北京外国语大学的050201专业的第二门专业课为英语能力测试(写作),上海外国语大学此专业的第二门专业课为824英汉互译(你说牛不牛,学个英美文学也得考互译T^T),其余学校,大家看看就好。 部分学校部分科目举例 941英语语言文学(北师) 861综合英语(对外经贸,考查语言综合运用能力,不涉及专业知识)811英语语言文学基础知识(中国传媒大学) 870英语语言文学综合二(中国政法大学,文学、语言学、翻译出一张卷子上) 815~818文学、教学法、翻译理论与实践、英美文化方向(人大) 857综合考试(清华,语言学和文学专业都考这个) 813英美文学史(复旦) 801英语综合(武汉大学,语言学文学都在一张卷子上)而对于050211外国语言学及应用语言学,大部分学校都会考“语言学综合知识”这一科,北外的外研中心的语料库语言学方向会考816语料库语言学,然而上外的语言研究院的两门专业课都很“特儿”:640考外国语言学和应用语言学理论,中英文七三开(中文70%,英文30%),另外一科是X汉互译。 至于再偏门一点的“翻译学”,专业课也就考英汉互译或翻译综合之类的。
