Overweight are more likely to have overweight friends, which is reported in a recent study.

Generally, we like to spend time with people who are like us. Similar people make us feel comfortable. A person with a weight problem may not enjoy hanging out(闲逛) with a thin person or a friend on a diet. As it turns out, your diets influence which friends you pick and your friends also influence your diet. It can be a great joy to share food with friends. But when we have meals with p eople we like, it’s easy to lose track of(不记得) how much we eat. Therefore, when we have meals with people we like, we don’t notice how much we’ve eaten. Among friends, we also tend to eat for a longer period of time than when alone.

On average, if you tak e a meal with one other person you’ll eat about 35 percent more than if you are alone. If you eat with a party of seven or more, you’ll eat up 96 percent more. And if you get a table for four, you’ll eat about 75 percent more calories than if you eat alone. This may be

one reason why close friends tend to weight about the same. If there are a majority of overweight people in a family, it’s more difficult to lose weight.

If you’re trying to lose weight, don’t go to lunch with the group who usually end with wolfing down(狼吞虎咽) pizza at midnight. Also, sit next to slow eaters who can help you slow down your eating.

And if you’re going out to dinner with a few friends, follow the rules of two. Limit yourself to two items except the entrée(开胃菜). That could be a small appetizer(开胃小吃) and dessert, or two pieces of bread. But you can’t have more than two.

If you follow these simple strategies(策略), you’ll be less likely to overeat and you can still be popular.

·Don’t 83 lunch with the group wolfing down pizza at
