(·豫南四校高三调研)“My kids really understand solar and earth-heat energy,” says a second-grade teacher in Saugus, California. “Some of them are building solar collectors for their energy course.” These young scientists are part o f City Building Educational Program (CBEP), a particular program for ki ndergarten through twelfth grade that uses the stages of city planning to teach basi c reading, writing and math skills, and more.

The children don't just play any city. They map and analyze the housing, energy, and transportation requirements of their own district and predict its needs in 100 years. With the aid of an architect who visits the classroom once a week, they invent new ways to meet these needs and build models of their crea tions. “Designing buildings of the future gives children a lot of freedom,” says the teacher who developed this program. “They are able to use their own rich imagination and inventions without fear of blame, b ecause there are no wrong answers in a future context. In fact, as the class enters the final model-building stage of the program, an elected ‘official’ and ‘planning group’ makes all the design decisions for the model city, and the teacher steps back and becomes an adviser.”

CBEP is a set of activities, games and imitations that teach the basic steps necessary for problem-solving:observing, analyzing, working out possible answers, and judging them based on the children's own standards.

(·河南五市高三模拟)I read a letter of a mother of a gifted child to an expert with gifted children stating that her son was always complaining that he doesn't like his teacher for she talks in baby language and she lets them sing baby songs. Having an insufficient understanding of being different from their normally developing classmates, gifted children may find themselves wanting to learn more than being boxed with other kids of their age. They want to quench their thirst for knowledge. However, in the pr ocess, they tend to develop negative thoughts about school and teachers. Thus, the y tend to exhibit behavioral problems.

Behavioral problems of gifted children could be mainly correlated to their asynchronous (不同期的) development. This development means that the child has uneven development in their mind, body and emotions. To explain further, a gifted

child may live in different ages at once. He may show high intellectual capabilities at some point but the time his emotions rule, he would go back to his true age going through tantrums and endless sobbing. He maybe find it happy playing with kids his age but the next day, he would be bored that and he would find conversing with older kids to be more challenging.

Because of high intellectual level, a gifted child often acts differently in his own classroom. He has the thinking of being above from the rest of his classmates when it comes to grades, academic awards and school recognitions. In classroom discussions, the child may either be very cooperative having advanced knowledge in the lessons but it is mostly that he will suffer from boredom as he is not challenged by the lessons and he would feel no improvement with them.

Miniaturised biosensors in a textile patch can now analyse body fluids, even a tiny drop of sweat, and provide a much better assessment of someone's health.

Jean Luprano, a researcher at the Swiss Centre for Electronics and Microtechnology (CSEM), coordinates the BIOTEX project. “One of the most obvious applications for smart fabrics is in the medical field,” he says. “There has been a good deal of progress with physiological measurements, body temperature or electrocardiograms(心电图). But no one has yet developed biochemical sensing techniques that can take measurements from fluids like sweat and blood. We are developing a suite of sensors that can be integrated into a textile patch. The patch is a sensing and processing unit, adaptable to target different body fluids and biochemical species. At the very least, some basic biochemical analyses could complement the physiological measurements that can already be monitored. In some circumstances, fluidic analysis may be the only way to get information on a patient's health status.”
