尤金。奈达的翻译理论、影响及其评析 在中国，奈达的翻译理论在当代西方翻译理论中介绍的最早、最多，影响也最大。尤金。A。奈达（Eugene A.Nida,1914---），美国人，早年师丛著名的教授弗里斯（Charles C.Fries）和布龙菲尔德(Leonard Bloomfield)，并与1943年获语言学博士学位。毕业后供职与美国圣经协会，终生从事圣经翻译和翻译理论的研究，著作等身，是公认的当代翻译理论的主要奠基人。 他的理论核心思想是功能对等（functional equivalence）.这个名称的前身是动态对等（dynamic equivalence）.后来为避免误解，改为功能对等。先分析一下为什么要把动态对等改为功能对等呢？奈达对动态对等下了如是的定义：“所谓翻译，是在译语中用最切近而又最自然的对等语再现原语的信息，首先是意义，其次是文体。”（Nida &Taber,1969）在这一定义中，“切近是指切近原语信息”；“自然”是指译语中的表达方式；“对等”把上述两者结合起来，是对等语（equivalent）,而不是同一语（identity）.在某种意义上来说，强调的是信息对等，而不是形式对应（formal correspondence）。由这一定义可见，奈达突出了翻译中“内容为主，形式为次”的思想。奈达的这一思想，引起了不少误解。认为翻译只翻译内容，不必要顾及语言的表达形式，因此，各种各样的自由译都被冠以“动态对等”。所以奈达后来在《从一种语言到另一种语言：论圣经翻译中的功能对等》（From one language to another:Functional equivalence in Bible Translation）一书中，把“动态对等”的名称改为“功能对等”。对于功能对等，奈达又作出了很多的补充，首先对“信息”作了进一步的界定，声明信息不仅包括思想内容，而且也包括语言形式。他认为“功能对等”的翻译，要求“不但信息内容的对等，而且尽可能地要求形式对等。“奈达认为如果形式不得不改变，也必须符合以下几个条件：（1）直译会导致意义上的错误；（2）引入外来语形成语义空白（semantic zero），读者有可能自己填入错误的意义；（3）形式对应引起严重的意义晦涩；（4）形式对应引起作者原意所没有的歧义；（5）形式对应违反译入语的语法或文体规范。要取得功能对等（奈达指的对等是大致对等），就必须弄清何为功能对等。他把功能分为以下九类，即表现功能（EXPRESSIVE）\认识功能(COGNITIVE)\ 人际功能(INTERPERSONAL)\信息功能（INFORMATIVE）、祈使功能（IMPERATIVE）、行为功能（PERFORMATIVE）、情感功能（EMOTIVE）、审美功能（AESTHETIC）和自我解释功能（METALINGUAL）。译文在这些功能上与原作对等，那么怎样才算对等呢？奈达认为回答这一问题不只是局限在文字本身，他把判断对等与否的大权交给了读者的心理反应。传统上，人们总是将客观的语篇作为判断译文对错优劣的依据。但奈达一下子把大权从语篇手中抢过来，交给了读者。这一转手马上创造出了一个崭新的局面，为当时几乎陷入绝境的翻译研究打开了眼界，西方翻译理论研究一下子柳暗花明。奈达大胆地提出了翻译要达到的不是语言的对等，而是语言功能的对等，是读者心理反映的对等。译文在译文读者心中的反应是否和原文和原文在原文读者心理反应相似（非相等）才是奈达所关注的。而要考虑读者的心理反应，就不能只看文字，还要看文字产生的环境，，要看读者的生存环境。这样，文化、社会、心理等等因素一下子都被包括近来了。 奈达的翻译理论，无论是在西方还是在中国都产生了重要的影响。从奈达，到比克曼和卡洛，再到拉森，他们的翻译思想是一脉相承的，比克曼、卡洛和拉森显然是继承了奈达的翻译思想和翻译理论。 对奈达的理论，有人认为他给读者的自由度太大：为了达到原文读者心理反应和译文读者心

中国当代翻译的研究现状 【摘要】:文章将首先对”当代”的中国翻译理论研究进行时间范围的划分。当代的中国翻译可分为三个方向，作者将对三个方向的不同的翻译主张，以及主要代表学派的理论来源和翻译实践进行客观描述和总结。最后根据该陈述，进行客观评价。 【关键词】：翻译艺术; 翻译理论; 语言学; 中国翻译特色 引言 根据陈福康（1992）的分类，中国翻译研究理论可以分为四个阶段：中国古代翻译理论，近代翻译理论，现代翻译理论和当代翻译理论。从建国开始一直到现在，从董秋斯到许渊冲和王佐良，所涉及到的理论和各翻译大家的主张也是数不胜数。作者将该文章的范围缩小到从改革开放到现在的第四次翻译高峰的来临。之所以这样划分，是因为首先这一阶段是中国翻译的新纪元，“这个时期的翻译事业和翻译学研究呈现了从未有过的兴旺景象，翻译工作者队伍空前壮大，涌现了一批新的翻译学研究者，国外新的翻译理论也纷纷介绍进来。”其次，最近几十年的翻译理论研究对现在的翻译工作及教学有着实际的指导作用，对我们的以后的翻译实践有着现实意义。因此，作者将该阶段设为文章的描述对象，同时将此阶段的各个主张分成三种倾向，即传统翻译艺术倾向，西方翻译科学倾向和中西合璧倾向。以下将从各个倾向中选取代表性的倡导者及主要观点进行描述并进行客观分析。 一、传统翻译艺术倾向 持有这种观点的学者大都以中国近现代的翻译理论为基础，尤其是以严复的“信、达、雅”为主要出发点，结合自己的经验来进行翻译研究。其中，许渊冲先生应算最有建树，持该观点最为坚决的学者之一。他主张“翻译的艺术就是通过原文的形式（或表层），理解原文的内容（或深层），再用译文的形式，把原文的内容再现出来。翻译散文一般只要再现原文的‘意美’，而反以诗词，却出了意美之外，还要尽可能再现原诗的‘音美’和‘形美’。”基于此理论，提出了“优势竞赛论”。他认为：“把最好的原文变成对等的译文，并不一定是最好的译文。因为稀饭文字比较接近，一文容易取得最好的效果。中西文字距离较大，各有优势，对等的译文往往不能取得最好的效果，这是就要发挥译语的优势。”此外，他还总结了中国近、现代几位翻译家们具有代表性的理论或主张，如鲁迅的“三美”、钱钟书的“化境”、傅雷的“神似说”等等，由此他用十个字归对中国的学派议论进行了概括，即“美化之艺术，创优似竞赛。”并在自己的文章《译学要敢为天下先》的最后补充道：“西方学派的代表人物奈达1991年在《翻译：可能与不可能》一文中说：我们不能使翻译成为一门学科：出色的翻译是创造的艺术。可见奈达也有科学派转向艺术派了。”
