①船东家的后山上,就有一座当年抗敌将士的墓园,宜昌的朋友告诉我们,那座墓很大。但已经许多年没有去过了。船东十二岁的女儿很可爱,她自告奋勇为我们带路。

②这山本来就很美,再加上长江的映衬。几个人走走停停,用各种词汇对这美景赞叹不已,快到山顶,小姑娘指指一栋教室模样的房子,“就在那儿,到了。”我问她:“墓地在学校的院子里吗?”“不是,学校就在墓地上。”我惊愕地听着她的话,小姑娘又告诉我:“刚建校的时候,伙房里烧的都是挖出来的棺木。”

③我望着那可爱的小姑娘,她纯真地笑着,带着期待看着我。她刚刚把那么新奇刺激的事情告诉了我这个外地人,我怎么不如她预期的那样笑呢?

④我怎么会笑呢?孩子,难道老师们从来没有告诉过你们,那被剖开的墓地里埋的是什么人吗?

⑤一万五千多士兵就阵亡在这山清水秀、鸟语花香的土地上,其中还有刚刚十六七岁的少年。那时候,中国农民家的孩子营养普遍不好,十六七岁的小兵,大多还没有上了刺刀的步枪高。他们就端着比自己还长的枪上阵拼命。如果他们活着,都已是七八十岁的老人了。他们也会在自家的桔园里小口地啜着香茶,悠闲地看着儿孙温暖地颐养天年。可他们为了别的中国人能有这一切,死掉了。

⑥天认得我们,就在此刻,下起了极细极细的雨,那雨珠细小得像眼泪,只有飘到脸上你才觉得到,暖暖的,在脸上缓缓地流。

⑦我熟悉这种雨。1999年和2002年,我曾两次拜祭滇西腾冲的国殇墓园,那是抗战后期国军强渡怒江、克复腾冲的烈士墓。那两次分别是五月初和十月初,都是滇西气候最好的

日子,都是风和日丽的中午,但当我们踏上坟山石阶的时候,天就变了。两次一模一样,都在那一刻下起了绵绵的小雨,天会哭。

⑧此刻,在几千里外的湖北,悲凉的苍天再一次伴着我,笼罩住这长江西陵峡边的莽莽群山。

⑨从今天的小学校能看得出来,这片墓地曾经很有规模。过去墓地扩大的石台,变成了整个校园的石基,石头阶梯正前方几十米外的杂草中,有一座干涸的水池,丈余见方,用巨石和水泥垒砌而成,池壁上,刻着“浴血池”三个字。这是战死的将士们在告别人世、将被埋葬之前,最后一次沐浴更衣的地方。那时的三峡尚没有电,水抽不到这么高的地方来。为了让逝者干干净净地走,生者们把江水一挑一挑运到山顶上,在这池子里为他们拭去遍身的血迹和泥土,为他们换上洗净的军衣。

⑩临近春节,正放寒假,学校里都很清冷。场前有一根旗杆,怎么看都觉得那底座与校舍风格相去很远,基座特别高大,还刻出一圈圈有棱有角的饰边,一座乡村小学不会在旗杆上下这么大功夫。猛然想到,这基座本是纪念碑的。周边的装饰,正是四十年代的风格。只是那本应高大庄严的石碑不知去向了。

?这山里并不缺地,也不知是哪位德政的官员将学校建在这片本应永世得到尊重的墓地上。其实坟头推平了,教室就修在上面未尝不可,让那些远离故乡的死者可以倾听到孩子们琅琅的书声。可你为什么要挖坟,为什么要烧棺木,为什么要毁弃那记载了上万人忠勇拼搏、为守卫脚下这块土地而捐躯的石碑呢?死无葬身之地,这本是中国人最恶毒的诅咒,竟应验在这些以身殉国的士兵身上。

?我们看到了那块蒙羞的石碑,它仰面朝天地躺在石阶脚下,就像中弹的士兵。它无奈地仰望长天,裸露着胸膛上的碑文。每天都有无数的孩子在它身上跳跃嬉闹,几乎磨平了那用血肉刻写下的碑文。碑上积满了尘埃,片片斑驳。我们取出随身携带的饮水,小心地、一个字一个字地洗净了它。

?读着上面记录一万多士兵一步一个血脚印而终至献身的碑文,心如刀绞。未死者将牺牲战友的忠骨埋在了他们用血守卫的土地上,他们深信:从此忠骸有寄了,从此魂梦有托了,从此归家有路了。可结果呢?

?天色渐晚,我们不得不回去。寂静的山里已有耐不住的孩子们早放起过年的鞭炮,远地一阵紧似一阵,就好像从几十年前一直留到今天的枪声。每年的春节和清明,还会有人来这给他们放鞭炮吗?我很后悔没有带几瓶白酒上来,不能在春节之前,在他们捐躯六十年的时候陪他们多坐一会儿,陪他们一起守岁,陪他们说说话。这么黑的夜,不会孤独吗?
