Breakfast

Studies show that children who eat breakfast do better in school It doesn?t take much

further thought to believe that adults will feel better and perform better at work as well.Whether

you work at home,on the farm,at the office,at school,or on the road,it is not a good idea to skip(故意略去)breakfast.

If we don?t eat breakfast.we are likely to become fired when our brains and bodies run low

on fuel. By mid—morning,a lot of us grab a cup of coffee,or wolf down a sugary candy bar to

wake up again. This might work for a few minutes, but by lunchtime we are hungry, bad—tempered, and perhaps our mood might make us a 1ittle more likely to make unhealthy

choices at lunch.Eating a good breakfast sets the tone for the rest of the day.

People who eat breakfast are generally more likely to maintain a healthy weight. Many people believe that they will lose weight if they skip meals, but that isn?t a go od idea. The body

expects to be refueled a few times a day,so start with a healthy breakfast.

A healthy breakfast should contain some protein(蛋白质)and some fiber(纤维).Protein can come from meat, eggs, beans,or soy(大豆).Fiber can be found in whole cereals(谷物),

grains or in fruits.A good example of a healthy breakfast might be something simple like a hard

boiled egg,an orange, and a bowl of whole grain cereal with soy milk.

Old Man Myths and Realities

1 When does a middle-aged mall become an old man? Officially,of course.it?t when we reach

retirement age. But,as we all know, this is a fairly blunt(生硬的)method of decision making. As

life expectancy(预期寿命)increases, retirement planning needs to be changed. This is because

being an old mail today is very different from what it was a generation or so ago.

2 Sixty—five is the new middle-aged man. These days people are talking about the young—old,

that is ages 70-75.and those over 75 as the old-old.The young-old frequently continue in good

health and maintain strong links with fiends and family, The old-old have a much higher chance

of poor health and social isolation.

3 Although men are living longer, there are still more old women than old men. This fact alone should arouse interest as to why.Relatively little is actually known about why this is the

case or about the experiences of the old man.Sure, we are aware that the old man experiences

anxiety, financial problems, loneliness, etc.but that?t really about all we know.

4 It is usually believed that the old man often complains about their health. In fact, most old

man think their health is good even though most are diagnosed with at least one chronic illness.

The physical health of the old man is strongly affected by their health behavior when they were

younger.

Interest is the

amount of money a bank pays you to use your money。

度群岛(the Indies),后来叫做西印度群岛(the West Indies)。

Play Play is the principal business of childhood, and in recent years research has shown the great importance of play in the development of a human being. From earliest infancy, every child needs opportunity and the right materials for play, and the main tools of play are toys. Their main function is to suggest, encourage and assist play. To succeed in this they must be good toys, which children will play with often, and will come back to again and again. Therefore it is important to choose suitable toys for different stages of a child’s development. In recent years research on infant development has shown that the standard a child is likely to reach, within the range of his inherited abilities, is largely determined in the first three years of his life. So a baby’s ability to profit from the right play materials should not be underestimated. A baby who is encouraged and stimulated, talked to and shown things and played with, has the best chance of growing up successfully. In the next stage, from three to five years old, curiosity knows no bounds. Every type of suitable toy should be made available to the child, for trying out, experimenting and learning, for discovering his own particular ability. Bricks and jigsaws(七巧板)and construction toys; painting, scribbling(涂鸦) and making things; sand and water play; toys for imaginative and pretending play; the first social games for learning to play and get on with others. Bt the third stage of play development-from five to seven or eight years-the child is at school. But for a few more years play is still the best way of learning, at home or at school. It is easier to see which type of toys the chills most enjoys.

(3) “We hire talent. ” Those are the words of Rod Franz, a civil service computer technology director, responding to the question of opportunities for women who are interested in pursuing careers as computer technicians. On at least one of three shifts in his operation, the male-female ratio is 50-50. That is not surprising because government and educational institutes are required by the law to make every effort to open hiring opportunities to women and minority workers. What may be even more interesting to young women is that, according to Franz, private industry is hiring women and minorities away from us. And, since private industry pays more, it succeeds. Managers in the rapidly growing computer service field are quick to agree. They strongly encourage women to train for technician jobs, and they actively recruit female technicians across the country. They believe that this career field offers a wealth of possibility for women. A recent study by the Devry Institute of Technology that involved 100 employment managers in the Chicago area showed, too, that the number of women entering the field of computer science is on the rise, and that those already in the field are moving up. A significant increase in the number of women

Anyone can have access to the messages posted on Cancer Chat but if people wish to post a message they will need to register. And Rebekah Gibbs, cancer patient and star of TV's Casualty has pledged her support for the new project."I think Cancer Chat is a brilliant idea," she said."I have written a public diary about what I went through with breast cancer and I have had such a heart-warming response from other people going through the same thing. "The idea of a Cancer Chat forum means you can share information about treatment and side effects and you can really open up about your feelings online in a way that can be difficult when talking to close friends and family. And with Cancer Research UK monitoring the forum people can be reassured about the quality of information being exchanged."
