一、说明信(Cover letter)

二、简历(Resume)

一个正规的个人鉴定,描绘出专业目标、工作经历和教育背景以及与某专业相关的其他的活动,或参加的专业组织,等等。这是一种向一个可能成为你老板的人推销你技能和专业技巧的手段。(A formal document which identifies a person,outlines professional goals,describes work history and educational background,andidentifies other activities,member ships in professional associations,etc.,which are relevant to a career. 英文简历与中文简历内容相似,主要包括:

(一)求职目标(Goals):

一份描述你专业抱负或是职业目标的陈述报告。(A statement which expresses your professional ambitions and/or career objectives.)包括:目标(objective)、工作目标(job objective)、职业目标(careerobjective)、谋求职位(positionsought)、希望职位(position wanted)、申请职位(position applied for)等。

(二)个人资料(Personal Data):

主要是介绍你自己(Introduce yourself),包括个人的一些自然状况:姓名(name)、年龄(age)、出生日期(date of birth)、住宅电话(home phone)办公电话(office phone)、民族,国籍(nationality)、籍贯(native place)、家庭状况(family status)、婚姻状况(marital status)等。

(三)应聘的资格(Qualifications):

在何种程度上,教育背景及工作背景适合从事某一工作。(The degree and/or depth to which a person's work and educational background is a good fit for aparticular job.)如:

1.教育背景(Educational background):

即正规学校教育/或培训(A history of a person's formal schooling and/or training.)包括:学历(educational history )、教育程度(educational background)、知识背景(knowledge background )、所学课程(courses taken)、

专业课程(specialized courses)、进修课程(refresher course)、脱产培训(off-job training)计算机科学(computer science)等,及掌握情况。

2.工作背景(Work background):

即专职及兼职工作经历。(A history of a person's professional and/or non-professional employment. )包括:工作经历(work experience)、职业经历(professional history)、具体经历(specific experience)、兼职(Part—time)、实习(Intern)、实际业绩(Performance)、工作成就(achievements)、个人能力(People)、市场开发(Marketing develop)、关键问题的解决(breakthrough)、成功的要素(Element of Success)、胜任力(Competence)、被认命的职位(appointed position )等。

3.实力/优势(Strengths)

你擅长的工作,你所拥有的积极的个性特点,你想向你未来老板推销的你的一些技能。实力包括较强的思想交流能力、分析能力、技术能力、管理能力、创造力、团结力和可取的个人品质。(Tasks which you feel you excel at,positive personality traits that you feel that you possess,and skills that you sell to apotential employer. Strengths can include superior communication skills,

high analytical ability,technical skills,managerial prowess,creativity,people skills,and desirable personality traits.)例如:

良好的沟通能力(Good Communication skill)

敏锐的商业头脑(Sharp Business Mind)

决策及信息高度透明(Transparency)

能当机立断(I’m willing to make decisions.)

(四)弱点(Weaknesses)

你认为你自身需要改进的地方,无论是工作习惯,还是专业知识,或是交流能力,等等。任何一个潜在的弱点必须附有能使之转变为一种潜在能力的积极有效的方法。

(Areas that you perceive that you need improvement in,whether it be work habits,business knowledge,communication,etc. Any potential weakness must be spun into a positive answer which converts it into a potential strength.)例如:

我有时对自己要求过于严格。(I tend to drive myself too hard.)

我对别人的能力期望过高。(I expect others to perform beyond their capacities.)

我喜欢速战速决。(I like to see a job done quickly.)

(五)业余爱好(hobbies):

爱好代表一个人的性格、涵养、为人以及品德,爱好广泛的人往往比较开朗、合群、思维宽阔。例如:弹吉他(play the guitar)、阅读(reading)、话剧(play)、慢跑(jogging)、长跑(long distance running)、集邮(collecting stamps)、打桥牌(playbridge)、打网球(playtennis)、下棋(playchess)、旅游(traveling)、缝纫(sewing)、听交响乐(listening to symphony)、搞泥塑(do some clay scultures)

(六)离职原因:

最重要的是:应聘者要使招聘单位相信,应聘者在过往单位的离职原因是某些良好的愿望,避免把离职原因说得太详细、太具体;不能掺杂主观的负面感受;不能涉及自己负面的人格特征;尽量使解释的理由为应聘者个人形象添彩。例如:

为更专门的工作(for more specialized work)

为晋升的前途(for prospects of promotion)

为更高层次的工作责任(for higher responsibility)

为扩大工作经验(for wider experience)

由于公司倒闭(due to close-down of company)

由于雇用期满(due to expiry of employment)

(七)薪酬奖金

应聘之前应该做到对相关行业及相关职业的薪酬有个大致了解,同时最好先能确定一下自己的底线,但除金钱外,应聘者还应该将该单位的员工福利如假期,发展空间,行业前景等因素考虑进去,这样作决定时才能不目光短浅,才能符合自己事业发展的整体规划。如:基薪(Base Salary)、全面薪酬(Total Compensation)、年度奖金(Annual Bonus)、业绩奖金(Performance Units)、红利(Benefits)、津贴

Tom: I know this is one of the biggest trading companies in the world. It was established in London in 1940, with a total of 40 million US dollars. It employs more than 17,000 staff throughout the world. Watson: Why do you consider yourself qualified for the job?

Tom: I have the educational background and relevant experience required for the position. Besides, I am a very good team player and have the desire to succeed.

Watson: What interests you most about this job?

Tom: I like to work in a team and enjoy solving problems.

Notes:

1. What made you choose this company? 你为什么会选择这家公司。make someone do something,

让某人做某事。

2. 那Tom 是怎样回答的呢?他说,你们的公司在业内有很好的声誉,不仅你们的产品质量很好,而

且你们的管理也很优秀。Earn a good reputation,赢得好名声。Tom在这里把这家公司夸了一通,这是很必要的,因为没有人会来应聘自己不喜欢的公司。即使你对公司不是很了解,也可以说一些套话。

但是如果你认为这家公司存在很多问题,面试的时候可不是提出来的好机会,你可以把它们留到上任以后再说。

3. 说完了公司,就应该说说自己的原因了。这是一个向考官陈述你的职业目标的好机会。Tom说他想

为既照顾顾客的利益,又兼顾员工的福利的公司工作,其实这还是从另一个角度在夸奖这家公司。考官接着又问,What do you know about this company? 你对这家公司了解多少?这时候你就可以把自己在面试之前收集整理的信息告诉考官了。这里同样要挑最主要的说,可以在面试之前打好草稿。

4. Why do you consider yourself qualified for the job? 你为什么认为自己适合这份工作?这时候你就

可以把你自己的能力和优点尽量展示出来。这里Tom 说的是the educational background and relevant experience,相关教育背景和工作经验,I am a very good team player and have the desire to succeed. 我有很强的团队合作精神,并且向往成功。一般来说这几点都是非常重要的,你可以在自己参加面试的时候用。

5. What interests you most about this job? 这份工作的哪个方面让你最感兴趣?其实,这还是在问你

为什么会选择这家公司,Tom回答说是因为喜欢团队合作共同解决问题。你可以根据自己的情况来制定自己的答案。

Watson: What's your career objective?

Peter: I hope to lead an energetic and productive sales team.

Watson: What do you consider important when looking for a job?

Peter: I think the most important thing is the nature of the job. One should never do anything one is not interested in. To me, pleasant working conditions with co-operative staff are also important.

Watson: Why are you interested in working in this company?

Tom: My past experience is closely related to this job. I am confident I can do the job well.

Watson: What do you think you would bring to the job?

Tom: My business experience in China, mainly. I know a lot about how the Chinese market works and how business is done there.

Notes:

1.What's your career objective? 你的职业目标是什么?你的职业规划对公司的发展也很重要,所以考

官一般都会问这个问题。回答的时候要根据应聘职位的要求和自己的实际情况来确定自己的职业目标,不要好高骛远,也不要妄自菲薄。

2. What do you consider important when looking for a job? 你认为找工作什么是最重要的?这就是在

问你对工作的要求了,包括工作环境,同事关系等等。这个时候也要注意不要挑三拣四,毛病多多,以至于给人不好相处的坏印象。

3. Why are you interested in working in this company? 你为什么会对到这家公司工作感兴趣?也就

是问你为什么会来应聘这个公司的职位,只不过是换了一个问法。

4. What do you think you would bring to the job? 你认为你会为这个工作带来什么?这个也是在问你

的能力经验等等适不适合这个职位。

面试英语:问到个人能力不要说太浮夸的词

Dialogue 1

Watson: What is your greatest strength?

Ben: I think I am very good at planning. I manage my time perfectly so that I can always get things done on time.

Watson: What are your weak points?

Ben: When I think something is right, I will stick to that. Sometimes it sounds a little stubborn but I am now trying to find a balance between insistence and compromise.

Watson: What are your greatest accomplishments?

Ben: Although I feel my greatest accomplishments are still ahead of me, I am proud of my involvement with the International Business Conference '93 project. I made my contribution as part of that team and learned a lot in the process.

Watson: Can you work under pressure?

Ben: Yes, I find it stimulating. However, I believe in planning and proper management of my time to reduce panic deadlines.

1. What is your greatest strength? 你最大的优点是什么?记住,这里问的是最大的优点,而不是让你罗列出你的全部优点。

2. 要挑一条你认为最能吸引考官的优点来说。What are your weak points? 你的弱点是什么,Ben回答说如果他认为某事是正确的,他就会坚持己见,但是他现在正想办法改变这种固执的脾气。这里不仅要告诉考官自己的缺点,还要告诉考官自己正在改正这个缺点,这能给人留下知错就改的好印象。

3. 考官继续问What are your greatest accomplishments? 你最大的成就是什么?Ben很谦虚,他说"我认为我的最大成就还未出现",I feel my greatest accomplishments are still ahead of me. 他接着又描述了自己在"九三国际商务会议"这个活动中的表现和收获。

4. Can you work under pressure? 你可以在压力下工作吗?因为工作的压力是不可避免的,所以考官想知道你在工作压力方面的想法。Ben的回答很好,他说,压力可以转化为动力,而且只要正确利用时间,压力是可以克服的。这句话大家也可以直接拿来用。

Snow: What are your strong points?

Tom: I have very strong powers of observation. I can generate interesting ideas from minor things and once the idea is formed, I have strong urge to put it into action.

Snow: What is your weakness?

Tom: I always give each job my best, so when others are not pulling their weight, I become frustrated. Snow: Are you more of a follower or a leader?

Tom: I don't try to go ahead of people and lead them. I'd rather cooperate with everybody else, and get the job done by working together.

Snow: How do you deal with those who you think are difficult to deal with?

Tom: I stick to my principles and keep to the rules. Sometimes, they just lack enthusiasm and I get them involved with something constructive. Some of them later change their attitudes.
