1.阅读理解

More than fifty years ago, Barbie Millicent Roberts first appeared in the world of toys. Since then, Barbie doll, as everyone called her, has become the most successful toy doll in history. Her parent, the Mattel Company, said that 90G of all American girls between 3 and 10 have at least one Barbie at home.

However, Barbie is facing some trouble at present. There are many similar dolls on the market in competition with her. Another doll named Bratz, for example, came to life about sixteen years ago. She looks more like today's pop stars with heavy makeup(浓妆) and miniskirts. And her company offers more kinds of clothes.

It seems that Barbie has lost her magic among older girls. "For younger girls, playing with a Barbie is much funnier. But when you get older, you want something smarter and more modern," says Vera Shepherd, a shop assistant of a toy store in New York.

It is good news that on the international market, Barbie is still No. 1. Although Mattel is selling fewer Barbies in the United States these years, sales in other countries are still going up. Mattel opened its first Barbie store in Shanghai, where girls can shop, eat, drink or even become fashion designers for their own Barbies.

Mattel is planning big celebrations for Barbie's 58th birthday. Fashion designers from all over the world have been called to make new dresses for Barbie. How long will Barbie stay popular in the world of toy dolls? It is hard to say, but 58 is surely not the age to retire(退休).

On the first day of the New Year 2019, I made up my mind to go to Thailand to teach English as a volunteer. At the beginning, all I cared about was travelling and seeing the country. I didn't know how fantastic my life would be in the coming months!

My journey began with attending TESOL certification course in my home state of New York last February. After 3 weekends of study and another 40 hours' study online, I received my TESOL certificate.

I was asked to contact Philip, who is Program Director of the Teach in Thailand. After discussing with Philip, I chose my school and after many months of excitement, I finally flew to Thailand in early April and I couldn't wait to explore the country!

After a few weeks of single travel, I met up with Philip and the other new teachers in my program in Bangkok. It was great to meet other people who were on the same journey as me, see some cool sights and walk in Thailand's cities! After that, I attended the week-long training. At the end of the training, I was sent to my school—Anuban Buriram Primary School.

I truly love my job—I teach Grades 5 and 6 and I have the cleverest and most active kids in the world. It's a truly fantastic thing that you can see the difference you make in someone else's life, right in front of you!

Buriram is a small city with green rice fields. People here are more friendly than anyone I've ever met—I've never been anywhere where a smile is so easily received, where everyone you pass is so friendly to say "Hello" and "Good morning". Is stress from work or school making you sick? If so, you may belong to a growing number of people suffering from serious stress. Experts have called the problem the "Black Death of the 21st century." The original Black Death is estimated (据估计) to have killed 25 million people in Europe in the 14th century. While no one expects stress to be quite that deadly, it is still a serious matter.

A recent study has shown that stress can affect our ability to go to work. Stress is now the number one reason workers stay home sick four continuous (不间断) weeks or more.

What has led to the growing stress felt in the workplace? The bad economic situation is a major reason. Record numbers of layoffs (裁员)have increased workers' worry about losing their jobs. Layoffs have also increased the amount of work workers are expected to do. People then work longer hours, which often creates problems for them at home, causing even more stress.

According to Professor Cary Cooper, writer of over 120 books, stress often leads to changes in manner of acting. You may notice that you're having a hard time centering around things. You may find yourself losing your temper (脾气)easily. You might even seem to have lost your sense of humor. Other stress-related problems include difficulty in sleeping, overeating or drinking in excess.

Stress must be managed by workers themselves and by the company. Workers can take steps to manage stress. They can create a suitable plan and have breaks from time to time. Bosses can help by showing workers that their opinions may be important. They can also allow workers to have some say in decisions that matter their jobs.

Everyone should work together to look for ways to cope with on-the-job stress.

(3)How do you notice that you have had the problem of stress?

A. You may spend time with friends and loved ones.

B. You are worrying about losing your job.

People normally think of dogs as man's best friends, but to Brian Wilson, his two pet parrots are his best friends.

It all began in 1995, when Brian was still a fire fighter. A car accident caused serious damage to his brain. After several months of treatment, Brian's doctors said that he would never talk again and would have to spend the rest of his life in a nursing home.

However, according to Brian, his two pet parrots didn't give up easily. They kept talking to him day and night, until one day, he said one word, then another, and all of a sudden was talking like a normal person again!

Brian was so thankful that he decided to set up a home for birds which are not wanted by their owners.

Now 15 years later, his house is home to about 80 birds, including a great variety of birds like several macaws, cockatoos and African grays. The birds fly around from room to room, some cackling, others talking like humans. Though they all have big cages, Brian lets them fly freely inside the house.

Over the years, Brian has developed a special relationship with birds. The birds who bite other humans, seem to like him and can get along with him well. He is now called a bird whisperer.

Brian pays for most of the costs of looking after the birds from his own money, but has recently established a foundation to accept donations. He and his birds also earn money by performing at birthday parties, weddings and other social events.

Good health depends on good lifestyles(生活方式). Read the follow advice and it can help you have good health.

Have a bedtime. Sleep is considered the third pillar(支柱)of health. As a result, getting enough sleep is important. One of the simplest things you can do to get enough sleep each night is to set a bedtime and follow it strictly.

Cut out sugar where you can. I used to have a sweet tooth. If you put cupcakes, ice-cream or cookies in front of me, I'd certainly eat them. But the more I learned about how much sugar is bad for my health, the more I realized I had to cut out sugar of my everyday food. Now instead of juice and soda, I only drink water. And I'm always trying my best to stay away from sugar.

Know when to stay off your phone. This is another thing I'm still trying to be better at. We're used to putting our eyes on those small screens. And we often forget something else that's more important. It's not friendly to let your friends wait while you are busy answering your e-mails.

Cook food yourself. Salad looks healthy. But when it's made with sugar in a restaurant, it can be different. The same goes for any other food. So the best way to truly know what you're eating is to just make it yourself.

(1)What kind of food might have less sugar and be better for people's health?

A. Water and salad.

B. Juice and cakes.

C. Ice-cream and cookies.

D. Cupcakes and soda.

(2)Why is it better for you to cook food yourself?

A. Because it can help me save, money.

B. Because it can make me eat healthier food.

C. Because it can help me eat more delicious food.

D. Because it can make me eat food with less honey.

(3)Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?

A. Setting a bedtime can help you get enough sleep.

B. If you want to be healthy, it's best not to eat sugar.

C. We'd better use the phone to be friendly and healthy.

D. The passage gives us four pieces of advice.

最新中考英语英语阅读理解试题(及答案)

最新中考英语英语阅读理解试题(及答案) 一、英语阅读理解专项练习试卷 1.阅读理解 That cold January night, I was growing sick of my life in San Francisco. There I was, walking home at one in the morning after a tiring practice at the theatre. With opening night only a week away, I was still learning my lines. I was having trouble dealing with my part-time job at the bank and my acting at night at the same time. As I walked, I thought seriously about giving up both acting and San Francisco. City life had become too much for me. As I walked down empty streets under tall buildings, I felt very small and cold. I began running, both to keep warm and to keep away from any possible robbers (抢劫犯). Very few people were still out except a few sad-looking homeless people under blankets. About a block from my apartment (公寓房间), I heard a sound behind me. I turned quickly, half expecting to see someone with a knife or a gun. The street was empty. All I saw was a shining street-light. Still, the noise had made me nervous, so I started to run faster. Not until I reached my apartment building and unlocked the door did I realize what the noise had been. It had been my wallet falling to the street. Suddenly I wasn't cold or tired any more, and I ran out of the door and back to where I'd heard the noise. Although I searched the street anxiously for fifteen minutes, my wallet was nowhere to be found. Just as I was about to give up the search, I heard the garbage truck (垃圾车) pull up to the street next to me. When a voice called from the inside, "Alisa Camacho?" I thought I was dreaming. How could this man know my name? The door opened, and out jumped a small red-haired man with an amused look in his eyes. "Is this what you're looking for?" he asked, holding up a small square shape. It was nearly 3 a.m. by the time I got into bed. I wouldn't get much sleep that night, but I had got my wallet back. I also had got back some enjoyment of city life. I realized that the city couldn't be a bad place as long as people were willing to help each other. (1)How did the writer feel when she was walking home after work? A. Cold and sick. B. Fortunate and helpful. C. Disappointed and helpless. D. Satisfied and cheerful. (2)From the first paragraph, we learn that the writer was busy _________.
