Here's some good news for the foodies in the USA: One of China's most popular and fastest-growing restaurant chains is coming to the United States, and folks better watch out. This braised(炖,焖)chicken rice shop could upend a lot of competitors in the area.

First opened in 2011,Yang's Braised Chicken Rice is definitely the new kid on the fast food block. However, the chain already has 5,000 locations globally, proving that they're perfect when it comes to speed, service, and flavor.

They've even been compared to the most popular In-N-Out burger for their business model, swift output, and delicious food.Similar to the burger legend,Yang's specializes in just one item and does it right: Huang Men Braised Chicken Rice. The only customization you can make to this dish is the level of spiciness.Other than that, the base to every clay pot of this Shandong delicious food is the exact same.

In fact, the recipe has barely changed over the past 80-plus years. That's because Yang's Huang Men chicken recipe is originally from the 1930s.Xiao Lu Yang, the founder of the new restaurant powerhouse, has inherited the recipe from his grandmother. He's made some slight changes, but otherwise it's the same chicken dish Yang's grandmother first sold in the 1930s.

Yang first opened his namesake chain when he discovered the national popularity of Huang Men chicken served with rice, and it's still the only item sold in the chain's 5,000-plus locations. Many of those locations are in China, but some locations are in Melbourne,Singapore, and Japan as well.

On September 10th,Yang's Braised Chicken Rice will open its first USA location in Tustin,California.Yang's sole menu offering, the Huang Men chicken with rice, sells for $9.99 per clay pot. Each pot comes with a generous helping of rice and chicken thighs(鸡腿肉)that braise with vegetables in Yang's secret sauce. The sauce is actually made in China and shipped to the US,meaning the flavor should almost perfectly replicate what Yang's sells in China.

If you want to be one of the first people to taste the food in the US restaurant, make sure to reserve a spot for this September 10th grand opening.Otherwise,Yang's does plan to expand out to the rest of the country and beyond. Franchise offers have already come in from Chicago,Los Angeles,New York, and Canada.

24.Why do people compare Yang's Braised Chicken Rice to In-N-Out?

A.Because both of them are fastest-growing restaurant chains.

B.Because they resemble each other in many ways.

C.Because they are completely different.

D.Because both of them are the most popular food in their own country.

25.Which is true about Yang's Braised Chicken Rice?

A.It may greatly influence the food industry of the world.

B.It opened its first location in the USA in 2011.

C.It is exactly the same as his grandmother's.

D.It is almost the same in flavor in the USA and in China.

26.What's the meaning of the underlined word "Franchise" in the last paragraph?

A.Financial support.

B.New Chinese restaurant.

C.Business permission.

D.New Chinese dish.

27.Where can't you have a pot of Yang's Braised Chicken Rice up to now?

A.In Singapore.

B.In Canada.

C.In Japan.

D.In Melbourne.

My husband and I had been married nearly twenty-two years when I acquired

Stevens-Johnson syndrome,a disorder where my immune system responded to a virus by

producing painful blisters(水疱).Although my long-term evaluation was good,I,who

had been so fiercely independent, rapidly became absolutely helpless.

My husband,Scott, stepped up to the plate, taking care of kids and cooking

dinners. He also became my personal caretaker, applying the medicine to all of my

blisters because my hands couldn't do the job.Needless to say,I had negative

emotions, bouncing from embarrassment to shame caused by total reliance on someone

other than myself.

At one point when I had mentally and physically hit bottoms I remember thinking

that Scott must somehow love me more than I could ever love him. With my illness he

had become the stronger one,and I the weaker one.And this disturbed me.

I recovered from my illness, but I couldn't seem to recover from the thought that

I loved my husband less than he loved me.This seeming distinction in our love

continued to annoy me for the year following my illness.

Then recently Scott and I went on a long bike ride. He's an experienced

cyclist;I'm quite the green hand.At one point with a strong headwind and sharp pain

building in my tired legs,I really thought I couldn't go any further. Seeing me

struggle,Scott pulled in front of me and yelled over his shoulder,"Stay close behind

me."As I fell into the draft of his six-foot-three-inch frame and followed his

steps,I discovered that my legs quit burning and I was able to catch my breath. My

husband was pulling me along again. At this very moment I woke up to what I now believe:

during these and other tough times, love has the opportunity to become stronger when

one partner learns to lean on the other.

I pray my husband will always be strong and healthy. But if he should ever become the struggling one, whether on a bike ride or with an illness,I trust I'll be ready to call out to him: Stay close behind me—my turn to pull you along.

D.Independent but tired of negative emotions.

30.What did the author's husband do when going on the long bike ride?

A.Followed her closely.

B.Gave in to her depression.

C.Backed her up all the way.

There's a curious thing about people. All of us are driven in some way or another to achieve—we want to run faster,be more creative, win more awards, and earn more money. But here's the thing: if you want to offer warm words of wisdom, constructive criticism or "360-degree feedback",then think again. Most of us would rather not hear it.

Our easily-broken egos(自尊心)are partly to blame. We all want to meet our own expectations of ourselves, and so being critised can present a huge threat to our

egos.Yet as decades of psychological theory and research have indicated, people have endless tricky strategies of remaining positive in the face of criticism. For this reason, rather than us welcoming feedback with open arms, our first response is often an automatic defense. These reactions serve to make us feel better about ourselves.

Psychological research exposes this unhealthy appetite for ignorance. In one study, students watched a false educational film about a serious disease called "TAA Deficiency".In fact,TAA Deficiency is completely fictional, but the students were not told this information;instead, they were asked whether they wished to provide a cheek test for assessing(评估)their risk of developing the disease.Half of the students were told that if they ever developed TAA Deficiency, then the treatment would involve them taking a two-week course of pills.Of this group,52% agreed to provide the cheek test. The other half of students learned the treatment would involve taking the pills for the rest of their lives.Of this group, only 21% agreed to the test.

These findings show a common pattern seen in other studies within and beyond the context of healthcare. That is,people are especially resistant to hearing feedback when they believe it could force them to do something difficult or unpleasant.

32.What can we infer from paragraph 1?

A.People should be satisfied with what they have.

B.People should offer constructive criticism.

C.People should be cautious when giving advice.

D.People should care less about others.

33.How do people usually react when facing criticism?

A.They try to avoid it.

B.They deal with It seriously.

C.They tend to fight against others.

D.They turn to psychological theory.

34.Why didn't most of the second group agree to the test?

A.They didn't believe in the result.

B.They knew there wasn't

such a disease.

C.They were sensitive to the negative result.

D.They didn't agree with the test.

35.What can be the best title for the passage?

A.Meeting Criticism

B.Rethinking Feedbacks

C.Improving Healthcare

People tend to pay attention to the shoes they and others wear.” Medical Daily notes that the number of detailed personality traits (特质) detected in the study include a person's general age, income, political tendency, and other personality traits, including someone's emotional stability. Lead researcher Omri Gillath said the judgments were based on the style, cost, color and condition of someone's shoes. In the study, 63 students from the University of Kansas looked at pictures showing 208 different pairs of shoes worn by the study's participants. Participants in the study were photographed in their most commonly worn shoes, and then filled out a personality questionnaire. So, what do your shoes say about your personality? Some of the results were expected: people with higher incomes most commonly wore expensive shoes, and flashier footwear was typically worn by outgoing people. However, some of the more specific results are interesting. For example, “practical and functional” shoes were generally worn by more

A When the sand began kicking up and hitting our faces, I started to worry that maybe we had made a mistake. That afternoon, my dad had stood on the deck (露台) of our home and laughed as our neighbors packed up their cars and headed inland. They left to spend the night in motels or at friends’ homes that were out of range of approaching summer storm. Challenging the weather that threatened to damping our spirits, we lit a fire on the beach. Dad told jokes and we had a good time. When it was 6:30 p.m., all laughter disappeared. Our eyes were drawn to the sky. A tornado (龙卷风) was headed straight for us! In a flash, we were all on our feet. The wind started screaming and now we were running to the cottage. My mom stopped next to the front door. “Where can we go?” She shouted at my dad. Most cottages on this part of Lake Michigan had been built without basements. Ours was no exception. The huge windows and the cot tage itself wouldn’t offer safety from high wind. “Follow me!” my dad yelled. We crawled (爬) beneath the deck, pressing ourselves against the foundation of the cottage. Between the deck supports, we watched the approaching storm in silent terror. My dad shouted, “Hold on!” and something else I couldn’t hear over the screaming wind. I think he was praying. By the time it reached our cottage, it was nothing more than a strong wind. The rest of the storm lasted for an hour and then simply blew away. “Next time, we’ll stay inland at Grandma’s. Okay?” my dad said. 21. What did the family do before the storm came? A. They left the motels. B. They packed up the cars. C. They stayed on the beach. D. They visited their neighbors. 22. What was the family’s immediate action when they saw the tornado approach? A. Closing their eyes tightly. B. Praying in silent terror. C. Crawling on the ground. D. Running away at once. 23. Where did the family stay in the storm? A. Under a deck. B. In a basement. C. Inside the car. D. Behind a door. 24. What can be the best title for the text? A. Life on the beach B. An Unusual Cottage C. Surviving a Storm D. My Admirable Family B The Best of Alaska

A Micro-Enterprise Credit for Street Youth Introduction Although small-scale business training and credit programs have become more common throughout the world, relatively little attention has been paid to the need to direct such opportunities to youth living on the street or in difficult circumstances. Over the past years, Street Kids International (S.K.I.) has been working with partner organizations in Africa, Latin Africa and India to support the economic lives of street children. The purpose of this paper is to share some of the lessons S.K.I. and our partner organizations have learned. Background Typically, children end up on the streets not due to a single cause, but a combination of factors: the lack of adequately funded schools, the demand for income at home and so on. The street may be attractive to children as a place to find adventurous play and money. However, it is also a place where some children are exposed, with little or no protection, to exploitative employment, and urban crime. Street Business Partnerships S.K.I. has worked with partner organizations in Latin America, Africa and India to develop innovative opportunities for street children to earn income. ● The S.K.I Bicycle Courier Service first started in the Sudan. Participants in this enterprise were supplied with bicycles, which they used to deliver parcels and messages, but they were required to pay for it gradually from their wages. ● The Youth Skills Enterprise Initiative in Zambia is a joint program with the Red Cross Society. Street Youths are supported to start their own small business through business training, life skills training and access to credit. Lessons Learned The following lessons have emerged from the programs that S.K.I. and partner organizations have created.
