Hotel California 被誉为是二十世纪中最近点的西洋歌曲之一。
轻快的节奏与旋律很难让人感受到这与邪教有关。
摇滚一向被誉为是魔鬼的音乐，很多摇滚歌手的手势其实就是撒旦教魔鬼的号召。
Backward Masking是指用錄音室技術，把一些特別的歌詞，用倒轉的方向錄入一首歌中，在正 常播放下是無法聽出，但把錄音帶或唱片以逆轉方向播放，就可聽到有另一把聲音唱另一些歌詞 。這是一種巧妙的方法，把歌詞直接送入人的潛意識中，人用正常意識網是無從發現及過濾。在 不覺間，人就完全吸收了歌詞之內容訊息，其行為、性格及習慣就被扭轉過 來 。
Hotel California相信你一定聽過，倒轉播出來的歌詞竟是：" Satan had help. He organized his own religion."
事緣在1966 年，撒旦教一名祭司叫" Lavey " ( Anton Szandor Laven )，在加州三藩市建立了 第 一間公開的撒旦教會 ( San Francisco's First Church of Satan )，並在1969 年 ，於California Street 中，買了那間名叫" Hotel California " 的酒店，作為撒旦教之總部，在裏面獻祭予撒旦。 撒旦聖經 ( The Satanic Bible ) 於同年出版 。
