The Wallet
Jenny looked at the store window. There was nothing that she wanted more than a Happy Hannah doll. It was $29.95. Unluckily, Jenny didn't even have the 95 cents.
As she crossed the street, she thought about doing her brother's housework, cleaning the floor, washing the dishes all month, but even then she would have only eleven dollars. Suddenly, something small and pink in the snow caught her eyes.
Jenny walked over and picked it up from the snow. It was a beautiful wallet. She opened the wallet and found many dollars and a woman's driver's license Jenny put the wallet into her bag quickly. She turned around and walked back.
Jenny's heart beat fast as she entered the store. She had long dreamed about this moment, but something didn't feel right. As she got to the Happy Hannah dolls, she pushed away her feelings. She grabbed(抓起) one and walked toward the checkout.
As Jenny was waiting to pay, her mobile phone rang. Jenny looked around, startled(吓了一跳). It was her grandma. Jenny's heart was suddenly filled with love and warmth when she thought of her. She put the doll down and answered the phone.

Relationships fade(逐渐消失). People change. But what if we could travel to the past
and experience our old memories again?
Lexa Hillyer's first novel, Proof of Forever, deals with common topics in young adult literature such as friendships, relationships and self-discovery, but is filled with surprises. So it is different from other novels.
The main characters, four seventeen-year-old girls—Joy, Tali, Luce and Zoe promised to be best friends forever. But, like many friends, they grew away from one another as their interests changed. They hardly speak. After Joy asks the friends to get together before they leave for college, a photo booth camera (机器拍照亭) moves the girls around two years back in time to their last summer at camp. The summer will change them forever again.
The main part of the novel is set in the past. The four girls are troubled by the absurdity(荒谬) of their time-traveling failure. With one week of camp left, they finally realize they have to recreate their last summer together to return to the present day. They must learn to work together, or serious problems may happen. Along the way, the girls learn that the past doesn't necessarily repeat itself—It's filled with new memories and discoveries.
The main characters are very different from one another, leading to a lot of interesting, humorous moments.
Proof of Forever is not a common story about friendship. Many of its plots(情节), such as losing trust in a parent and finding out one's secrets, are very exciting. While the storyline might interest younger readers, it is most suitable for readers 15 and older.
Because of its many plots and four main characters, the story is sometimes difficult to follow. The storyline jumps from character to character and from problem to problem, resulting in an interesting but confusing story.
The ending is very surprising. The storyline takes an unexpected twist(转折) that may even result in a few tears. However, the ending needlessly leaves a few questions unanswered and some problems to deal with.
Proof of Forever is a good read, telling the ups and downs of coming of age and the power of friendship in an honest way.

W e can't control everything that happens to us. We can't control where our families came from, how much we will pay for school next fall, or how others might treat us. But there is one thing we can control: how we respond(回应) to what happens to us. And that is what counts! This is why we need to stop worrying about things we can't control and start worrying about things we can.
Look at the picture. The inner circle is our circle of control. It includes things we have control over—ourselves, our personality, our choices, and our response to whatever happens to us. Outside the circle of control is the circle of no control. It includes the thousands of things we can't do anything about.
Now, what will happen if we spend our time and energy worrying about things we can't control, like a rude comment(评价), a past mistake, or the fact that it's raining on a good hair day? You guessed it! We'll feel even more out of control, as if we were hurt. For example, if your sister is angry with you and you're always complaining(抱怨) about her weakness, that won't do anything to fix the problem. It'll only cause you to blame(责备) your problems on her and lose power yourself. Don't listen to the rude comment, avoid making the mistake next time, and get an umbrella for the rain. You are the star of your own life. Focus(关注) on what you can influence.
Renatha told me a story that explains this point. A week before her upcoming volleyball game, she learned that the mother of a player on the other team had made fun of Renatha's volleyball skills. Instead of paying no attention to the comments, Renatha became angry and spent the rest of the week thinking about it. When the game arrived, her only goal was to show to this woman that she was a good player. To make a long story short, Renatha played poorly, spent much of her time on the bench, and her team lost the game. She was so focused on something she couldn't control that she lost control to the only thing she could control—herself.
Proactive(积极的) people focus on the things they can control. By doing so they experience inner peace and are primed for whatever comes their way. They learn to live with the
many things they can't do anything about, even to smile and laugh about them. They may not like them, but they know it's no use worrying.

When people speak about the Chinese women's volleyball team, they don't just talk about a sporting group. The term has come to mean an amazing team spirit.
The team won its fourth World Cup victory by beating team Japan 3-1 on Sept 6, 2015. This has been its first world title(冠军) in 11 years since it won at the Athens Olympic Games in 2004.
What has the team gone through, and what has helped it rise again?
Once a world superpower in women's volleyball, China was almost unbeatable between 1981 and 1986. During that time, the team won two world championships, two World Cups, and one Olympics.
But the retirement(退役) of the players who won in Athens led to a time of difficulty. The newcomers didn't perform well enough and coaches changed too often.
After the team finished fifth at the 2012 London Games, Lang Ping took over as head coach the next year. She had led the Chinese to the 1981 and 1985 World Cup titles as a player. As head coach, she "brought in fresh air, using more young players".
But things never go exactly as planned. Before going to Japan, some key players were injured. Lang had to find replacements quickly from her two years of buildup.
There were more things to do. She had to calm down her girls. Assistant coach Lai Yawen knew all about the effort(努力) made by 54-year-old Lang, who slept less than four hours every day during the World Cup. "Lang has to study the videos showing the other countries' players' movements and skills every night."
Her girls fought just as hard as she did. Zhu Ting, 20, asked to return to a game after South Korea took the lead. She had left because of an injury.
She said the injury was "not a big deal". Only after she had helped the team win that game did she tell reporters, "My ankles(脚踝) were really in pain, but I hid it and finished the game. Meanwhile, we worked as a team, that's the point."
The title didn't come easy but the team made it. "I believe chance only helps prepared people," Lang told Xinhua.
