第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D 四个选项中选出最佳选项。

Dear Alfred,

I want to tell you how important your help is to my life.

Growing up, I had people telling me I was too slow, though, with an IQ of 150 at 17, I’m anything but stupid. The fact was that I was found to have ADIID(注意力缺陷多动障碍). Anxious all the time, I was unable to keep focused for more than an hour at a time.

However, when something did interest me, I could become absorbed. In high school, I became curious about the computer, and built my first website. Moreover, I completed the senior course of Computer Basics, plus five relevant pre-college courses.

While I was exploring my curiosity, my disease got worse. I wanted to go to college after high school, but couldn’t. So, I was killing my time at home until June 2012 when I discovered the online computer courses of your training center.

Since then, I have taken courses like Data Science and Advanced Mathematics. Currently, I’m learning your Probability course. I have hundreds of printer paper, covered in self-written notes from your video. This has given me a purpose.

Last year, I spent all my time looking for a job where, without dealing with the public, I could work alone, but still have a team to talk to. Luckily, I discovered the job—Data Analyst—this month and have been going full steam ahead. I want to prove that I can teach myself a respectful profession, without going to college, and be just as good as, if not better than, my competitors.

Thank you. You’ve given me hope that I can follow my heart. For the first time, I feel good about myself because I’m doing something, not because someone told me I was doing good. I feel whole.

This is why you’re saving my life.

Yours,

Tanis

A. She had learned enough about computer science.

B. She preferred taking online courses.

C. She had more difficulty keeping focused.

D. She was too slow to learn.

22. As for the working environment, Tanis prefers____.

A . dealing with the public B. working by herself

C. competing against others

D. staying with ADHD students

23. Tanis wrote this letter in order to_____.

A. explain why she was interested in the computer

B. share the ideas she had for her profession

C. show how grateful she was to the center

D. describe the courses she had taken so far

Much information can be clearly conveyed, purely through our eyes, so the expression "eyes also talk" is often heard.

Can you recall any experience that further proves this statement? On a bus you may quickly glance at a stranger, but not make eye contact. If he senses that he is being stared at, he may feel uncomfortable.

It is the same in daily life. If you are looked at for more than necessary, you will look at yourself up and down to see if there is anything wrong with you. If nothing goes wrong, you will feel angry toward other’s stare at you that way. Eyes do speak, right?

Looking too long at someone may seem to be rude and aggressive. But things are different when it comes to stare at the opposite sex. If a man glances at a woman for more than 10 seconds and refuses to avert his gaze, his intentions are obvious. That is, he wishes to attract her attention, to make her understand that he is admiring her.

However, the normal eye contact for two people engaged in conversation is that the speaker will only look at the listener from time to time; in order to make sure that the listener does pay attention to what the former is speaking, to tell him that he is attentive.

If a speaker looks at you continuously when speaking, as if he tries to dominate you, you will feel disconcerted. A poor liar usually exposes himself by looking too long at the victim, since he believes the false idea that to look straight in the eye is a sign of honest communication.

In fact, continuous eye contact is confined to lovers only, who will enjoy looking at each other tenderly for a long time, to show affection that words cannot express.

Evidently, eye contact should be done according to the relationship between two people and specific situation.

24. What may a person usually do on a bus?

A. Glance at a stranger with eye contact.

B. Use eyes to talk to a stranger politely.

C. Glance at a stranger without eye contact.

D. Talk to a stranger politely after a quick glance.

25. What does it mean if a man looks at a woman for over 10 seconds?

A. He likes her eyes. B He makes contact with her.

C. He knows her well.

D. He admires her.

26. Why is a poor liar easy to be seen through?

A. He thinks that he is honest.

B. He looks straight at the victim for too long a time.

C. He feels uneasy about others’ eye contact.

D. He wants to control the victim.

27. What may be the best title for the text?

A. Don’t Stare at Others

B. Eye Contact Matters

C. Eyes Can Speak

D. Use Your Eye Contact

C

Food production does great harm to our environment. There are many procedures involved in the manufacture of food that result in greenhouse gases and other pollutants. Some procedures require the consumption of large amounts of fossil fuels, such as the transportation and storage of food products. Other factors that cause great damage to our environment include the overuse of fresh water.

The production of beef is more damaging to the environment than that of any other food we consume. Raising large numbers of cattle requires the production of large amounts of food for the animals. It’s estimated that producing one pound of beef requires seven pounds of feed.

Land use is also a problem. If the cattle are free-range cattle, large areas of land are required for them to live on. This has led to disastrous forest cutting and the loss of rare plants and animal species, particularly in tropical rain forests in Central and South America.

Another problem specific to beef production is methane emissions (甲烷排放). Although many people are aware of the damaging effects of carbon dioxide, they don’t realize methane’s global warming potential is 25 times worse, making it a more dire problem.

Unfortunately, beef consumption is growing rapidly. This is the result of simple supply and demand factors. Specifically, there are two main causes of demand that are encouraging the production of more supply. First, the increase in the world population means there are more people to consume meat. The second factor is socioeconomic advancement. As citizens in developing nations become financially stable, they can afford to buy more meat.

Therefore, one way to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions is for people around the world to significantly cut down on the amount of beef they eat.

28. Which of the following is TRUE?

A. Producing beef can damage the environment.

B. People cut down trees for animal habitats.

C. Raising free-range cattle is eco-friendly.

D. Carbon dioxide causes far more harm than methane.

29. The und erlined word “dire” in Para.4 means.

A. avoidable

B. common

C. typical

D. urgent

30. Beef production is growing rapidly because .

A. more people are in demand of beef

B. developing countries raise more cattle

C. more land is available to raise cattle

D. the cost of raising cattle is relatively low

31. The author writes this article to .

A. describe the booming of the beef production

B. emphasize the advantages of beef production

C. condemn the deforestation of the rain forest

D. argue for a decrease in beef consumption

D

Nuclear energy has always been controversial. The world is divided — some countries are planning more nuclear plants, while others have promised to shut theirs down.

After Fukushima, Germany decided to switch off all its nuclear plants by 2022. Switzerland and Italy are also phasing out nuclear power. But France and the United States remain staunch supporters of atomic energy. In fact, almost 80% of France’s electricity comes from nuclear power, the highest percentage in the world. And in the US, the administration said it“continues to support the expansion of nuclear power”.

Nuclear supporters claim unclear power can help the environment. Unlike fossil fuels, nuclear power doesn’t create greenhouse gases. So, pro-nuclear countries argue that nuclear power allows them to generate energy without contributing to climate change. Britain’s chief scientific adviser supports this view. He recently said that the world doesn’t have the luxury of ignoring nuclear energy.

Nuclear power is also relatively cheap. Renewable energy sources such as solar, hydro and wind power may be clean, but they’ re expensive; and right now, they require a lot of investment. This higher cost of using “green energy” is usually passed onto the consumer. So, while many people may prefer their energy to come from a renewable source, not so many are prepared to pay higher energy bills. This is of particular concern while the world economy is in such bad shape.

The main argument against nuclear energy is that it isn’t safe. For a start, nuclear waste is very difficult to dispose of, and remains toxic to humans for thousands of years. And even before Fukushima, there were several high-profile nuclear disasters. The most famous is probably the 1986 Chernobyl disaster, in the Ukraine. The radiation from the meltdown spread all over Europe, affecting thousands.

The nuclear energy issue is very complex. And it doesn’t look like it will be resolved anytime soon. The battle continues.

32. What has Germany decided to do by 2022?

A. go on use nuclear energy.

B. shut down its nuclear plants.

C. decided to continue all its nuclear plants by 2022.

D. decide to increase input on nuclear plants.

33. What is the main argument against nuclear energy?

A. It is unsafe and remains toxic for thousands of years.

B. It spends a lot of money to build nuclear plants.

C. Nuclear power can pollute the environment.

D. Nuclear power is so expensive that people can not afford it.

34. The writer’s attitude toward nuclear energy is_____?

A. supportive

B. opposed

C. neutral

D. indifferent

35. It can be inferred from the text that _____.

A. Nuclear energy can cause the environment change.

B. Nuclear energy is cheaper than solar, hydro and wind power.

C. Many disasters were caused by nuclear energy.

D. It is uncertain whether nuclear energy is good or not.

Eating healthy 100% of the time can seem like a near impossible goal. But along with consistent exercise, healthy eating will make you feel better, give you more energy, and help you perform better in your workouts. 36

Here are some tricks to make healthy eating easy:

37

Protein is what keeps you full, fuels your muscles, and helps you keep a strong and slim figure. Make veggies a main part of every meal

38 You’ll find that you might actually start to like vegetables, and your body will start to want them because of how good they make you feel after eating them.

Eat whole foods whenever possible

Simply focus on avoiding processed foods and include as many whole foods as possible in your diet. 39 But once you discover how food is supposed to taste, eating healthy will become much more natural to you.

Don’t deny yourself your favorite foods

40 Because it’ll cause you to feel bitter, more often leading to a binge (大吃) eating session. So if you’re working out and keeping active on a regular basis, allowing yourself a few small treats every once in a while will not only make you happier, it will also make it more likely that you’ll stick with healthy eating in the long run.

A. So what exactly are whole foods?

B. It may take a little to get used to.

C. And it doesn’t have to be that difficult.

高二上学期开学考试英语试题套真题

高二上学期开学考试英语试题 一、阅读理解 1. 阅读理解 Around this time a few years ago, it was common to see videos of friends on social media having a bucket of icy water thrown on them. Known as the “ice bucket challenge”, it was created as a way to raise money for the medical condition ALS. But now, there’s a new challenge and this time, no water is involved. What is it? Well, think of a fruit that you’d never normally sink your teeth into. Perhaps you’ve got it: a lemon. While we enjoy using lemons to add flavor to dishes, ve ry few of us would actually eat one as we’d eat an apple or an orange. But the horrible taste is the precise reason why the “lemon face challenge” is taking off. Participants bite into a lemon, taking a selfie as they do it before posting the photo online. The fun is all about expression people make as all that citric acid hits their taste buds . Every expression seems to say, “This is worse than freezing water.” The serious side to this trend is the good cause it’s all in aid of. The challenge aims to raise awareness of a rare brain cancer that affects young children. It was started by Aubregh Nicholas, an 11-year-old US kid. She was diagnosed with this rare brain cancer herself in September 2017, but has since
