1. 72

People who regularly made plans and looked forward to upcoming events had a 50 percent reduced chance of Alzheimer's disease (早老性痴呆症), according to a recent study. 73 Something as simple as setting a goal to have a weekly coffee date with a friend will do. There's evidence that people who have a purpose in life or who are working on long or short-term goals appear to do better. In other words, keep your brain looking forward.

2. Go for a walk.

Mildly raised glucose (葡萄糖) levels can harm the area of the brain that helps you form memories and physical activity can help get blood glucose down to normal levels. In fact, exercise produces chemicals that are good for your brain. 74

3. Learn something new.

Take a Spanish class online, join a drawing club, or learn to play cards. A study found that mental stimulation (刺激) limits the weakening effects of aging on memory and the mind. But the best thing for your brain is when you learn something new and are physically active at the same time. 75 Or go dancing with your friends.

A. Focus on the future.

B. This can be especially harmful to the aged.

C. It should be something like learning gardening.

D. So take a few minutes each day to do some reading.

E. But don't worry if your schedule isn't filled with life-changing events.

The weather’s nice, and the youngsters are out of time. Here are a few tips to help you along the way: Nature is all around us. 37 For small kids, there’s likely plenty in the backyard, courtyard, or schoolyard. National parks are great, but kids foster a deep connection with nature close to home! 38 Don’t worry too much about what to do once you arrive at your nature-rich destination. What kids really need is free time to engage all their senses and use their imaginations. You can learn too. What counts is simply to get out there, show that you value the outdoors, and be ready to have fun. 39 In fact, it is not necessary for you to know anything at all about science or nature. And remember, questions are more powerful than answers anyway! Sit back and watch your kids learn. Don’t be too much of a helicopter parent, always saying “no”. Instead, try to spare more time to stay with your kids when necessary.

People in the United States love their dogs and treat them well. 1 However, dogs without owners to care for them lead a different kind of life. The expression, to lead a dog’s life, describes a person who has an unhappy existence. Some people say we live in a dog-eat-dog world. 2 They say that to be successful, a person has to work like a dog. This means they have to work very, very hard. Such hard work can make people dog-tired. And, the situation would be even worse if they became sick as a dog. 3 This means that every person enjoys a successful period during his or her life. To be successful, people often have to learn new skills. Yet, some people say that you can never teach an old dognew tricks. They believe that older people do not like to learn new things and will not change the way they do things. 4 People who are unkind or uncaring can be described as meaner than a junkyard dog. Junkyard dogs live in places where people throw away things they do not want. Mean dogs are often used to guard this property. They bark or attack people who try to enter the property. However, sometimes a person who appears to be mean and threatening is really not so bad. We say his bark is worse than his bite. Dog expressions are also used to describe the weather. The dog days of summer are the hottest days of the year. A rainstorm may cool the weather. But we do not want it to rain too hard. 5 . A. Still, people say every dog has its day. B. Both of these can help you make money. Many people are benefiting from this new business of renting. Perhaps the best-known example of a company in this field is Airbnb – an American web business which allows you to rent out your spare room to holiday makers. It says it operates in 34,000 cities and it has 800,000 listings of rooms and apartments. They seem to have occupied the majority of the market. A British company is doing something with parking spaces. JustPark’s founder, Anthony Eskinazi, says, “when I had the original idea, I spotted a driveway close to a sports stadium. I would have been so convenient if I could have just parked in that driveway rather than in a commercial car park.”And his great idea has proved a success. Around 20,000 people have advertised their spaces on the website, and he says around half a million drivers use it. But the new business of renting has its competitors. They are people who run things like traditional hotels and commercial car parks. They are afraid of ending up losing money. And there is another problem. Regulations for these new businesses are unclear. How will renting out you driveway affect your neighbor? Because this is a new business world, those rules aren’t there yet.

诗歌如下: “Boys and girls in Class 4 Get up as early as birds Brush teeth, wash faces Have breakfast, enjoy classes Do sports and play games Also homework waiting for us!
