Passage B

T alk to your teachers

当老师误解你了,你该怎么办?词数 240 建议阅读时间 5分钟

THREE days had passed since the head teacher scolded (批评) her at the sports meeting, but Cao Jinning, 14, still felt unhappy.

The head teacher scolded her for wearing tight (紧身的) clothes instead of the school uniform. He said that Cao thought “too much about being pretty”. But actually the Hangzhou girl wore those clothes to run faster and was going to put on the school uniform after the race.

“I was wronged(委屈),” Cao said. “I felt angry and sad.”

Many students come across similar things with Cao. Sometimes, as teachers don’t fully know the situation, they make judgments (判断) based on their previous (以前的) experience. It easily leads to misunderstandings. Such things are not only bad for the relationship between students and teachers, but also the healthy development of students.

Zhang Xiaoyu, 14, from Anhui thought the best way was to talk to teachers “in private (私下)” after some time. “Refuting (反驳) teachers on the spot is impolite and will make teachers embarrassed or angrier,” she said.

Lü Chunzi, a teacher from Heilongjiang, agreed with Zhang. She said many teachers hurt students’ feelings without meaning for it. “Students are sensitive (敏感的). After all, teachers ca nnot know everything,” she said. “So I hope students can come to teachers to clear up the misunderstandings.”

For those who feel too shy to do that, Cao offered another choice. She wrote a letter to her teacher. “He talked to me later on and now we’re go od,” she said happily.

Choose the best answer:

1. Why was Cao Jinning scolded by the head teacher?

A. Because she didn’t do well in the sports meeting.

B. Because she didn’t think much about the race.

C. Because she didn’t wear her school uniform.

D. Because she cheated in the running race.

2. According to the article, a teacher often misunderstands a student when _____.

A. he/she feels embarrassed or angry

B. he/she doesn’t fully know the situation

C. a student makes some mistakes

D. a student doesn’t respect the teacher

3. Which is the right way for students if they are wronged by teachers?

A. Argue with the teachers in class.

B. Forget the thing and let it be.

C. Make friends with other teachers.

D. Talk or write to the teachers in private.

Passage C Is it possible for fish to feel thirsty? 鱼会觉得口渴吗?

词数 270 建议阅读时间 5分钟

FROM goldfish to sharks, fish of all sizes have lived on the Earth for hundreds of millions of years. But do they ever get thirsty?

The answer is yes, at least some of the fish do. But there is a big difference between fish in seawater and fresh water.

Bony fish have a salt concentration (含盐量) in their bodies. For bony fish in seawater, their concentration is lower than the water they live in. Through osmosis (渗透作用), these fish will lose lots of water into the sea. In order to make up the loss, they drink lots of water, so it would be easy to say they become thirsty. Although drinking salt water is never a good idea for humans, fish can pass the salt they are drinking through their gills (鳃).

But sharks are an exception. Sharks can make their blood as concentrated as the water around them. They do this by building up urea (尿素) in their blood, so they may not be very thirsty. But highly concentrated blood also has a problem. It means sharks won’t do very well in freshwater – water will rush into the shark by osmosis and it might even explode!

Freshwater fish, on the other hand, are unlikely to become thirsty. Because they live in a less salty environment, they have another problem: water goes inwards and dilutes (冲淡) their

blood. The freshwater fish therefore need to pass useless water, so we can see that saltwater fish get thirsty and drink, while freshwater fish avo id drinking but pee (小便) a lot.

1. Which of the following explains the process of osmosis?

2. According to the article, we know that _____.

A. fish can’t let out the salt they are drinking

B. sharks should live in seawater i nstead of freshwater

C. freshwater fish get thirstier easily than seawater fish

D. seawater fish drink a lot so they pee the most

3. Which question does the article mainly talk about?

A. Why are sharks not thirsty?

B. How do fish drink water?

C. Do fish get thirsty? Why?

D. When do fish drink?

He didn’t eat them, but made experiments on them. The local people were quite surprised at that. One day he noticed that his chickens became sick when they were fed the food most Javanese ate —refined white rice (精炼米). When he fed them with unrefined rice, also known as brown rice, they recovered. Eijkman realized that he had made an important discovery —that some things in food could prevent disease. These things were named vitamins (维生素). The Javanese were not getting enough vitamins because they had actually removed the part that contains vitamins. Later, other diseases were also found to be caused by the lack of vitamins in a person’s food. 初中英语阅读理解练习题 A friend of mine was fond of drawing horse. He drew the horses very well, but he always began the tail. Now it is the Western rule to begin at the head of the horse, that is why I was surprised. It struck me that it could not really make any difference whether the artist begins at the head or the tail or the belly(肚子)or the foot of the horse, if he really knows his business. And most great artists who really know their business do not follow other people’s rule. They make their own rules. Every one of them does his work in a way peculiar(奇特的) to himself; and the peculiarity means only that he finds it more easy to work in that way. Now the very same thing is true to literature(文学). And the question, "How shall I begin?" only means that you want to begin at the head instead of beginning at the tail or somewhere else. That is, you are not yet experienced(有经验的) enough to trust to your own powers. When you become more experienced you will never ask the question, and I think that you will often begin at the tail --that is to say, you will write the end of the story before you have even thought of the beginning. 1. 初中英语阅读理解专项练习

英语阅读理解专项练习 1.阅读理解 When throwing away rubbish, do you know which Bin it should go in? Have you ever noticed the differently-colored Bins on the street? Some of you might not be able to answer this question. However, it's actually quite important to know how to sort your waste. Not knowing how to sort waste can make it harder to save energy and protect the environment. If you don't sort your waste, all of it will go to a landfill and be buried(埋)together. These landfills can take up large areas of ground that could have been used for planting trees or crops. The electronic waste you throw away, such as batteries, can pollute the soil and groundwater. Other pieces of waste, like the metal part of a pen, can be used to make other things if they are properly recycled. With this in mind, many cities in China have been running waste-sorting campaigns (活动)in recent years. For example, Shanghai announced in July that within three years, all of its residents(居民)should sort their waste into four groups wet, recyclable, harmful and dry. "Wet" waste is also known as household waste." They are things you don't want but that pigs can eat," Guangzhou Daily explained. Paper, metal, glass and other things that can be reused are recyclable waste. Harmful waste includes things like medicine, batteries and fluorescent bulbs. Finally, any waste that's not wet, recyclable or harmful will go in the" dry waste" bin. Many other Chinese cities, including Shenzhen, plan to use this method to sort their garbage. Now that you know this, perhaps you can do your part to protect the environment and encourage others to sort their waste. (1)The passage is most probably from a(an)__________. A. newspaper B. notion C. Advertisement D. science story (2)The underlined word "landfill" in this passage means"__________" in Chinese. A. 垃圾箱 B. 垃圾填埋场 C. 农场 D. 陆地 (3)Which of the following things are harmful waste? A. medicine, fluorescent Bulbs and metal B. Batteries, glass and metal C. medicine, fluorescent Bulbs and Batteries D. medicine, Batteries and paper (4)The author writes this passage in order to __________. A. introduce waste-sorting campaigns in recent years B. tell people to sort the trash and protect the environment
