The research: Adults 65 and older who strength-trained twice a week were 46 percent less likely to die over the course of a 15-year study compared with those who didn’t work their muscles that often. Take Your Breakfast Sandwich Without the Sausage
The research: You know that processed meat is not the healthiest thing you can eat, but here’s another reason to eat it less it often. A large review of studies by the Mayo Clinic found that daily red-meat consumption was linked to a higher risk of death—particularly processed meats, like bacon, sausage and salami. Specifically, eating lots of these meats was linked to higher rates of cardiovascular disease and cancer among Western populations.
What you can do: There are benefits to simply eating less meat—one study in the review found that the risk of death was 25 to 50 percent lower for people with very low meat intake compared to those with very high intakes. In addition, long-term vegetarians (defined in the review as people who’d been meat-free for 17 years or more) lived an average of 3.6 years longer than other study participants.
Do Something Each Day That Makes You Feel Healthy
The research: Out of 65 different risk factors linked to early death, people’s thoughts on how healthy they felt (also known as subjective health) was one of the strongest predictors of their actual risk of death, according to a study in Psychological Science. The healthier they felt, the longer they lived. Of course, actually being healthy was also important, but the researchers say they were surprised by how big of an effect subjective health had.
What you can do: This study is all the more reason to make choices that make you feel healthier, whether that’s going for a midday walk, choosing seltzer over soda or getting to bed at a reasonable hour. They could help motivate you to continue making good choices.

After years of planning and months of expectations, the 2018 Summer Games finally began in Brazil on August 5. Over 10,000 athletes from 207 countries marched across Rio de Janeiro’s Maracana stadium, proud to represent their respective nations at the world’s most famous sporting event.
The road to the Olympics, however, is not easy for any athlete. It has been particularly hard for Yusra Mardini, who is a member of the world’s first ―Olympic Refugee ( 难民)Team.‖The 19-year-old always dreamed of swimming for Syria at the Olympic Games. However, in August 2018, after losing her home in the conflict that has involved Syria since 2018, she and her sister decided to flee the country. The sisters along with a few other Syrian nationals made their way to Turkey via Lebanon. They then set sail on a small boat to their final destination — Greece.
Unluckily, thirty minutes after leaving Turkey, the motor on the ship which was meant to hold six passengers but was instead carrying twenty, failed. Yusra, her sister Sarah, and the only two other strong swimmers aboard the boat had no choice but to dive into the ocean and use their superior swimming skills to push the boat and its passengers all the way to Lesbos, Greece – A journey that took three hours.
While her dream of representing her country was ruined, Yusra did not give up her desire to compete in the Olympics. In March 2018, she was one of ten athletes selected and funded by the Olympic Committee to form the first-ever ―Refugee Team.‖International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach believes that Yusra and her teammates, who have also had to flee their countries, ―Will show the world that despite the unimaginable tragedies they have faced, anyone can compete, anyone can contribute to society through their talent, skill, and strength of the human spirit.‖

Want greater success in your career and your love life, as well as a healthy brain long into old age? The answer could be to learn another language. Or at least that's the case according to a majority of Americans and Britons polled in a new survey by language app Babbel. Apparently, 71% of Americans and 61% of Britons believe speaking more than one language makes a person seem more attractive.
Of 3,000 English-speakers polled in the US and the UK, nine out of 10 admitted they'd learn a new language in pursuit of love. About half said they'd dreamed about a romance with someone from another country. And moving from the bedroom to boardroom, about one in four Americans and Britons think that being monolingual has held them back professionally.
So it's probably no surprise that one in eight confessed to having exaggerated their language skills on a resume.
"Languages not only enable you to expand yourself in terms of perspective and skillset, but they also open doors and help you better understand other cultures and peoples," Miriam Plieninger, director of didactics at Babbel, tells CNN.
"Knowing another language helps to break barriers and to connect on a special level of mutual understanding; be it while on the street, traveling, or in business."
Globally, more than half the world can speak at least two languages—but Western English-speakers are lagging behind.

There was a farmer in Africa who was happy and content. He was happy because he was content. He was content because he was happy.
One day a wise man came to him and told him about the glory of diamonds and the power that goes along them.
