9. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

I moved into my house at the end of last year. I noticed when I moved in that there was a tree in the front yard. All I could make of it at the time was that it was definitely some sort of fruit tree with thick branches spreading outside. It was so large that it almost covered all the yard. I liked the big tree though I didn’t know exactly what kind of fruit tree it was. So I took good care of the tree. ar

Later, my friends told me it was a fie(无花果)tree and sure enough, as the months went by, the tree grew huge leaves and eventually bore fruit. Figs the size of my fist! I had never seen such big figs before and they tasted quite sweet.

While I enjoyed fresh fruit every day, I didn’t know what to do with so many of them all. 1 learned how to make fig jam because I didn’t want to waste the figs.

My next-door neighbors have always been polite since I moved in. They always waved to me as they pulled into their driveway or as they left for the day. I thought that was lovely in itself. However, we never talked face to face.

But about a week ago, my next-door neighbor came home from work and said hello, and properly introduced himself. He then asked if he could pick some figs from my tree. Immediately, I encouraged him to take as many as he liked. He told me a story about how he lived in the house next door for nearly 14 years. And 12 years ago, the former owners of the house I live in now were very good friends with him and they planted this very fig tree at that time. Now the old couple have moved to a nursing home. My neighbor visited them regularly.

河南省驻马店市际大联考2022-2023学年高一下学期期末英 语试题 学校:___________姓名:___________班级:___________考号:___________ 一、阅读理解 The parents of a troubled teen may feel unsure as to whom to turn to in order to find help for their child. They may feel as if they have exhausted all of their options, and sometimes they are on the verge of giving up. But there is hope. Schools for troubled teens offer discipline and in some cases, drug treatment programs that can provide important life skills, and more importantly, a fresh start. Boarding Schools When a child is unable to deal with the relative freedom of a standard school day, boarding schools might be a good choice. At boarding schools, the child lives in a dorm setting, where almost every minute of the day is scheduled by school administrators. Treatment Centers When a teenager has an addiction to drugs or alcohol, a residential center that specializes in young people is an outstanding way to help them break the cycle of addiction. Treatment centers feature individual and group counseling to help identify the root causes of the drug problem and help develop the life skills needed to stay clean when the program is over. Wilderness Programs Designed to help improve the discipline and self-reliance of the children, wilderness programs send kids back to nature. By placing them in a foreign and sometimes uncomfortable setting, wilderness programs hope to improve children’s behavior. Programs generally include hikes, exercise programs and team building exercises. Boot Camps Boot camps are the most extreme style of school for troubled teens. These facilities are modeled after actual military boot camps, where the individual must get into shape, work as part of a team, and follow a long, hard set of rules and regulations. However, boot camps might not be the best choice for a teen with a drug addiction. 1.Which school will be a good choice if a teenager is addicted to drugs or alcohol? A.Boarding Schools.B.Treatment Centers. C.Wilderness Programs.D.Boot Camps.
